A very special episode with Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden. Follow us on social media! Facebook - / britishdrumco Instagram - / britishdrumco Twitter - / britishdrumco TikTok- / britishdrumco www.britishdrumco.com/store
Saw Maiden in Glasgow last week, and when Nicko appeared from behind his kit at the end of the show, it was one of the biggest cheers of the night! My absolute hero, and to finally hear and see him live, I was in awe!
So glad you both thought so can’t believe some comments I’ve read about the opening of the tour. The British gigs he’s been on point, those fills and the kick work sounding awesome….. living legend!!!
@@upperhandssoundsystem now, I was at the second and third shows of the tour. Something was definitely off there. Probably some injury or something. I know why those comments were made, but some of them were just very mean spirited and with a total lack of understanding. Anyways, Nicko got better with each show and in Ireland and the UK, he was absolutely fantastic. All of them were.
@@upperhandssoundsystem I saw him at Nottingham, and I'd read comments beforehand about him making mistakes, or simplifying his fills, but I didn't notice anything out of place, and he certainly didn't drop any beats. I'm not a drummer, so maybe he was simplifying some of his parts, but if he did, so what? I see what happened to Phil Collins, and I'd prefer to see Nicko take steps to prevent himself ending up the same way.
Nicko is a credit to his trade, at 71 years of age to still be playing as hard as he always has and to still have the same passion, the man is a legend!
Saw them in Manchester and then 2 days later in Nottingham on this tour…… Fucking fantastic mate, I really hope they release a concert album and dvd because it really was top tier 🤘
My boy (7) plays drums and echo's Nicko's style, and my German shepherd is named Nicko after this absolute legend. Took my boy to his first gig in Brum the other night. Maiden. Absolutely blew him away. I recorded him as the 'Caught somewhere in time' intro rang out and he gasped. I've watched it back a thousand times since that night. This band, have got me through my whole life, good, bad and everything in between. Always there. And Nicko, please god, long may you continue sir!
Its the passion that Play the Hard Rock Music these Boys of 70 years old Up the Iron Maiden and long Life to Rock Roll 🖐️💪😀🎤🎸🎻📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀
If more drummers had Nicko's attitude and outlook more of us would get along instead of making drumming a competition, what a lovely guy(NO Rockstar BS) and great drummer! 👍
I was an incredible show. I wasn't looking forward to a fair amount of the setlist and I was worried as some of the songs are being played considerably slower. I was going mental for the entire show and walked out convinced once again that Iron Maiden are the greatest band of all time.
@@bryanjordan4262 haha oops!!! In fairness bruce was all over that stage that night. Was a little worried by comments about the quality of the playing from the first few gigs but holy shit they were on fire that night. I'm guessing this will be their last long world tour but after 23 times seeing them it will be a fitting end point if I never see them again live. Also.... PUTTING THE PRISONER IN THAT SET WAS PURE PERFECTION!!! Nice talking to you. UP THE IRONS!
The enthusiasm and energy that Nicko brings it's just incredible! He's one of those people you could just listen to for hours without knowing anything about the subject matter. I saw him play Saturday night art the o2 and I was just buzzin for the rest of the weekend. Amazing show.
@@firestorm755 ok, up to you. I was twice in organisation when they played in Serbia, I drove some of band members to the hotel, venue etc .... very bad attitude for surrounded people/staff. Ok, they're more then tired of everything but ....
Nicko split my head open on his first show with Maiden Hull City Hall, World Piece Tour (02/05/83) threw his sticks out, i wasn't paying attention and one bounced off my head split it right open, some git caught it off my head! then security pulled me out told me i was a mess and go and clean up blood everywhere what a night and what a gig, splitting head ache the next day, still never got that stick though lol Up The Irons!!
A fantastic interview as ever Matty 🙌🏻... With the amazing man that is Nicko! So insightful... So good to hear the passion and love for drums still pouring out of him ❤
Glorious 😄 We had tickets for maiden here in Sth Australia, but Covid hit and it fell to crap. Hope he can head on down tfor us to hear the masterpiece live😆👍
Met Nicko at a special concert for Clive Burr at the Hammy. He is so human. Wish I could meet the rest of the blokes too. At 58, who knows when my t ime will come. Would like to meet them and shake their hands, and invite them for dinner at home in Singapore.
Yeah that switchover from Burr to McBrain is possibly the most shadowy point in their history, the whole truth will probably not surface until the band ends, possibly not even then.
Great stuff as always , i first met Nicko as a youngster in early 90s ( I think )on the rhythm of the beast clinic, albany hotel glasgow , met him and had a tshirt signed , a fabulous enigma snd a wonderful drummer who's output speaks for itself. Gonnyersel nick.
I was very unhappy and irritated that Nicko left SONOR. Could anyone explain to me why he left SONOR and which issues he had with them, please. Thanks in advance.
I dont know for sure but would think that it was somthing to do with sonor not A: being huge payers for endorsements. I think you get free kits and that about it. And B, i think they were maybe uninteresting it doing full custom kits. I think its pick from out catalogue and that about it. maybe they would have made a custom artist series snare but not a custom copper eddie wrapped tour kit.
I genuinely believe Nicko is suffering with Parkinson's, I've been saying this for a while. It wouldn't surprise me if this came out in the next couple of years. I may be talking out of my arse but I can notice a tremor developing since about 2019/20. Hoping I'm wrong
No fan boy wants to address that. Same as Nico from the Licks of the Beast channel. He’s butchering the intro to The Trooper night in night out, mouth we don’t talk about it.
@@JosesAmazingWorldsyes mate that is so true. I am a real Nicko fan but also a Clive Burr fan at the same time. I respect both for what they did for Iron Maiden. BUT…..really all fan boys don’t want to face the truth. Nicko is 71 and he is at an age where it is totally fine and normal that he cannot play like a 30 year old Nicko anymore. This tour shows really how much of his great skills he lost. He plays a lot slower and skips the complex and complicated galloping bass drum and fast fills. As I said, I respect him a lot and I admire him. But for my opinion he missed the right time to retire and from now on it will not get easier for him. I am sure it will be his last tour. All the best for him and the band. 🍀🍀🍀❤️❤️❤️
@@mrsayang admittedly, saw them live a couple of weeks ago. They were amazing, particularly Bruce and Adrian. Yes, Nicko simplified the trooper, but you had to pay close attention to notice. Still, a very tight set just shy of two hours nailed to almost perfection.
@@JosesAmazingWorlds I saw them Live last year on their 2022 tour and I liked also a lot what I saw. I know that they have a tough show this year and they play many difficult songs. As I said I respect Nicko a lot and it was not offensive at all. Of Iron Maiden, this year I like the most all 3 guitars and bass, they all still perform perfectly. I am a huge Rush fan aswell and I have a lot of respect for their drummer Neil Peart. Neil was a perfectionist. He stopped drumming in 2015, after their last show in Los Angeles, because he was scared that soon he would not be able to play all their songs perfectly anymore. He did the right thing, to stop his career before he can not fulfill his expectations. He died in 2020, R.I.P Neil. I guess Nicko missed the perfect time to end his career. That is only my humbled opinion.
