I played in every conceivable band you could in your middle school/high school days, and I always enjoyed the Musical band! Haven't watched a Zack Albetta YT video since he posted the ones in a little room teaching us Latin and Jazz grooves back in the day!

I’m a bass trombonist in my high school jazz band and also played in a pit for a play and fun fact about trombone players. (I also play in a classical symphonic ensemble which is also a lot of fun) We constantly put our music stands off center to the right or left of us (on the opposite side of the bell) (bell refers to the big opening at the front of the horn) This allows us to see the conductor and also our music just by using are peripheral vision. just a fun fact I thought I would share as are worlds are very different in terminology and so on

Rad episode! I love dseeing this set up and how Zack thinks/works day to day. I think the "pit band" gets overlooked a lot of the times but I love it! I remember after I saw the hamolton tape they put on disney I spent hours looking at videos folks put out about the band and the set ups. I loved the one show I did in high school. Playing for a musical is very different but so much fun.

Thanks man! Yeah playing a musical is definitely a different animal from most gigs, but super rewarding in different ways.

Cool interview! I worked the load-in & load-out as a stagehand when "Ain't Too Proud" came to my city recently, so I already had a bit of a behind the scenes look at some of this tour. I hadn't seen his drum iso booth though, that thing must be fun to play in!

Haha right on! What city were you in? Yeah the booth is pretty cool, some pros and cons, but nice to have the consistency.

Very enjoyable. And I’m currently listening to the podcast episode. One question, though: I guess I really don’t understand the whole endorsement thing. Am I the only “ground level” drummer who is still buying cymbals, sticks, heads, drums, etc? I own nothing but Sabian cymbals and I’ve bought every one of them out of pocket. Am I a schnook? It used to be only famous drummers had endorsement deals. When did this change?
@malonedrum
@malonedrum Год назад
No, but some companies do value having some ambassadors of their products on a more ground level because those artists still provide immense value for the companies. It's a mutual relationship.

Endorsements, like anything else in the music business, come from relationships. You don’t have to be on a huge tour or have tons of social media followers to get an endorsement. You have to create and develop relationships with people at the companies you want to endorse. It usually starts with fellow drummers who are already endorsers who can introduce you to people at the company and vouch for you as a player and as a person. They need to see that you’re a professional who already uses their gear and you’re interested in earnestly repping it. This separates you from most of the interest they get, which is a buncha tools fishing for free gear.
@terrydrums
@terrydrums 11 месяцев назад
@@zackalbettamusic I’m not fishing for free gear, but I’m a nobody, so I doubt anyone would have any interest in someone with my low market appeal. I can just remember when only the top level, world famous cats were the ones who had endorsements. Heck, Steve Smith has told the story that he was TURNED DOWN by Sonor the first time. I’m just wondering if social media was when it changed.
