A much more important fact is that the crash at 06:28 (just 1 minute after the start of a 12-minute race, caused by the unexpectedly low speed of the driver in front of Michael) damaged/moved Michael's front wing/spoiler! That makes his drive UNBELIEVABLE! OMG, when I clicked on this video, I would ABSOLUTELY not expect SUCH strong performance form Michael! Shocking... And I thought I knew everything about his driving...

Race start: *** 05:27 *** Karting is good fun. But in F1, Michael can STILL shatter the vast majority of much (15 or even 20 years) younger drivers who think they are better than he is. Also, notice MS being unlucky at the start and then getting closer and closer. His actual average race pace was therefore better than the winner's. Amazing grandpa!

I am fully competitive with good international single seater racers (on a racing karting track with the same kart), that's enough for me. But although Michael may not currently be the best kart driver in the world, he IS absolutely amazing. Consistently getting closer to the leader after a problem probably caused by someone else is surely great. I am not buying that the leader was not going as fast as possible.

Even though Schumi fell behind in the start, he still manages to catch Arjan.. I will bet yoy that Michael had the best laptime as well..

Everybody competing at that level has the best gear available; Tony Kart are among the better chassis makers but the engines are standardised and most of Schumi's pace will just be from pure skill.

Because the regular collars are for collarbone protection and though there are products out there for the neck they are unproven, bulky and restrictive (from those I have talked to). I wear the normal collarbone protector but might give one a try for myself in the near future.

It is true that you can only gain very little by optimising a regular front end, but it is also true that the slight damage done to Michael's front end made all his subsequent laps at least 100 ms slower. Karting surely is MOSTLY about mechanical grip, since the average speed is not especially high, although it is possible to design a high speed track layout for karts, where aero will make nearly all the difference.

I'd like to point out that A) the track is quite small, and you obviously want to get around it the fastest you can, smooth is good, getting the most out of each and every bit of the track is better. and B) In a go kart, because they're real wheel driven, and most of the weight is over the back, sometimes you need to use the throttle to help steer the kart.

i think vettel put it in the best words, its not about how good your car is because without the driver it stays in the garage

Awesome video!! would be nice if more views of the in-field action were given though, to have a better indication of the racing line, braking and passing maneuvers being adopted by the drivers...

I love it how there are people that know nothing about racing and still try to fit their opinions in the others head. Yeah, Schumi is good. But you have to remember that he probably had the best racing gear there.

@Fonebeast Funny you say that because at lap two Schumacher was the first to punt off one of his rivals :P But no, that can happen to the very best. Good drive for him and good to see him still mixing it up at the front compared to his much younger rivals!

The lap time difference caused surely wasn't 0 ms. So, what is your estimate? (When you think 100 ms is so much that you have to curse...) Obviously, karting is not F1, so the performance hit is incomparable, but still...

i can picture Jermey Clarkson commenting on this saying something like "the track, it's filled with beeees!"

No, the combination of Michael catching the leader and having a kart that is obviously not 100% OK is extremely impressive. I have beaten lap records on tracks (rental and racing) during my first visit there so I can tell a great drive when I see one. I have sufficient experience with the effects of tire, brake, clutch, engine, aero, etc. problems on the performance. Especially at his age, Michael is unbelievable. The front surely cost him at least 0.1 s per lap as it made the airflow uneven.

@Fonebeast - I don't know anyone who says Michael has no talent. I just think many people say he was surrounded by the very best team, including preferrential treatment, and that at times he went outside the rules (both written and unwritten). A very very good driver. But in my opinion, not the best.

I guess Schumi didnt do anything extraordinary here in this race; After reading your comment i was expectin something concrete and solid.Consider, he was surrounder by good drivers but not the best drivers in kz1 therefore...

Bad start for Michael, and too few laps. In a race like that a bad start signified rest back, as in F1, of slower drivers. I 'll want seen a race on 30-40 laps. In this case i'm absolute sure that Michael would also stop for a launch, and taken the same the victory. Joke a part, is very clear that Arjan push at the limit and Michael overtake five raiders as beginners, in complete relax. Again few laps and or Arjan push more, or Michael taken easy the 1 place... Anyway congratulation to Arjan, that between the HUMANS has been the best....

If he made contact, the time deficit could have even be caused by minor chassis movement/component movement. It could be anything. You clearly don't know much about racing/karting/aerodynamics. Not to toot my own horn, but I race karts and am soon to be a mechanical engineer. Your rambling could just be copy and pasted from wikipedia.

Logic. When I write in English and he replies to me, he should write in English! If he doesn't know English, he did not understand my statements. If he does know English, it is impolite to answer in another language (that is not my mother tongue). Maybe he thought that since I am Czech, i.e. from a neighbouring country with Poland, I understand Polish, but the languages are VERY different.
