Sleeps about 1 hour a day Leads the most prestigious sailing race Still manage to take some time to talk about bullying in the middle in the ocean What a man
12 days into one of the toughest sporting events in the world - certainly the toughest solo - sleep deprived, under huge pressure, and finds the time to send a positive message to young kids who may be having a tough time - amazing. The fact that Alex is out there - and leading - shows what's possible if you put your mind to it. Inspirational stuff.
Why the hell are there people disliking the fact that one of the arguably best sailors who has had peactically no sleep in the last week whilst sailing the vendee globe and talking about bullying Side not Alex is an absolute legend for actually finding time to talk about this
Just listened - thanks Alex! Brought a tear to my eye. Not sure how you can be so eloquent off the cuff with no sleep and all the distraction of recent days including knowing loosing focus could lead to dismasting and all that could follow. Astonishing and thank you😀🌈
Hi Alex, Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your anti-bullying message. Well said Sir, you are a diamond. Yup, you just made the world a better place, way better. Manhugs and strength coming at you, yours for a rainy day. Fair winds, stay canny, stay safe and GO FOR IT!! Big Cheers, Rob M.
UNBELIEVABLE!! With all Alex has to deal with in the race he takes time to send out this message, let's all strive to be this kind of man, this kind of person!!!
This video makes me wish RU-vid had a “Love” button, something an order of magnitude stronger than just a thumbs up. As a parent, thank you, Alex and team, for being a positive role model for children around the world. Cheers from the USA. :)
What a role model, this is truly amazing. Thank you Alex, I will steer my kids to this whenever they are having hard times. Stay safe and keep pushing strong
You are some stuff Alex. Fantastic that you have the thoughts and the time to help others when you are in one of the most stressful of situations. You are without doubt “The Boss!!” 👏👏💪
What an amazing and unexpected message to hear from a man barreling toward the south ocean while leading a grueling competition. I mean, are you kidding me? Alex I think you are really becoming my idol! I continue to be inspired by you and your high character. And yes, I was bullied as a kid too. It is way too common of an experience and agree that a key service to pay to the person getting bullied is to tell them that you see them experiencing it. It’s a lonely experience otherwise! Anyway great sailing and saw you do some great self management and self care to just catch some sleep. Keep going. We are rooting for you.
Great message Alex. Thank you for taking the time to share your story, on the race, the lack of sleep and the anti bully message. Top job! Good luck with the rest of your time at sea.
You lovely man Alex. As a father of three young boys, bullying is always a big fear. Thanks so much for using your voice to reach out to the kids. Keep it going, I sense things are tough right now, but you are tougher. Stay strong, stay positive and you will reach your goal of being the first Brit to win the Vendee 💪🏻⛵️
My mum's class of Year 3's (UK) have been divided between the four British Sailors. I bet if she shows this video to them, their first question will be "Was that from his boat?"
We just lost a 14 yr old local boy to suicide due to bullying. Your message couldn't be more timely or accurate. Best wishes from Old Lyme, CT. USA New followers!
this is a great message. as someone who was bullied for pretty much all of secondary school, without even realising fully that what was happening to me was bullying, it's really important to share these anti-bullying messages so kids can realise they're not alone! thanks for taking the time in the middle of this race to say this! mega respect for you. Allez Alex! ⛵💪
Alex I’m so inspired by your mental strength, your sailing abilities but mainly your character. So grounded. Inspiring. Anyway I’m a sailor and an international airline pilot. Ive looked down upon the oceans you’re crossing and wonder what it would be like crossing oceans. Mentally and physically. I’m living vicariously through you and I thank you for your updates. Im following closely. I was also a military kid. My father was Air Force. Your words so poignant made me recall all those times I changed schools too. The good and the bad. So Very well put mate. Best of luck. More importantly Stay safe. You’re looking strong. We’re all rooting for you.
your so inspirational Alex, I hope anybody watching this who has/is being bullied can find some help from this video and to see that your never the only one.
when i was young i was sailing with my father on a small river (mosel) .. when i get older i have not taken the time for that. Now i found your video and i sitting here on my chair and have tears in the eyes. you use your life effectively do what you dreaming from and work hard for this. most people create a prison for themselves and spend so much time for nothing real. Best luck from germany ! greetings to the wife who goes through all this with you !
Fantastic Alex!!! Thank you!!! Having also grown up in numerous countries across the globe I commend you on your message that is so important for children and adults to hear especially have young daughters myself. Sailing was always my escape from Opti's to solo racing and sailing. You have raced a beautiful race thus far! Good luck, fair winds and have a wonderful, safe and speedy race. Cheers, Mark
Thank you for speaking up against bullying and doing so in a way that children could relate to. ✊🙏😔 As always wishing you good winds and good speed, sail safely!🙂
Very inspirational Alex, it's extremely tough being bullied and has a life long lasting effect. You have shown people a light, we must beat bullying, a very important message well said. Tell someone and put a stop to it. Fair winds and get there first. You most certainly deserve it.
As a child I was bullied by several so called hard nuts, I was luck having a couple of very good friends and a loving family, I was scared to tell my father, thinking he would be ashamed of me. And scared of telling teachers because nobody likes a grass. I was so wrong to think these things, I did tell my father and he told the school. My good friends supported me and my family were proud of me for opening up to them, I got full support from the school. As a result of this, the bullying stopped and I could go to school without looking over my shoulder and being scared. In fact the bullies then wanted to be my bodyguards, a complete turnaround, I don't want bodyguards I want to be left alone. It is worth telling someone your being bullied, you will get help and support, people do care about you. I will be there in the Southern Ocean in spirit, bring it back to the UK Alex.
Thanks for the videos Alex, you are an inspiration. Please can you give us some more peeks of the boat and some more live commentary and wisdom. God Speed!
Alex! I've been glued to the tracker and the Hub for days now, willing you on! You've been doing such a great job so far and it's just the best distraction from Lockdown 2.0 in England. I'm slowly converting all my friends, family and work colleagues into fans too - so more support coming! All the best and keep going!
You have got me hooked! I have a love of boats and I have no idea why! Trying to persuade old man to come France in January to see your splendid return! Please do documentary about the boat design etc etc. Totally hooked and searching for info! Sea wolves seems good! Stay safe Alex! Xxx
Thanks Alex for taking time to think about the issues affecting others whilst in the midst of a huge challenge. Top Man :) I wish you continued good fortune throughout the race.
Wow, what goes through your mind? Whatever it is it is always a pleasant surprise and your message today was spot on. People will listen, great job Alex.
Hey Alex...have been following your journey for many years...I'm also from Gosport and a single hander...regardless of the lack of news about the race here in the UK...you have many followers rooting for you....good luck with the race..!! Have a track for you from my Album..."fantastic voyage " very apt I think...with you in spirit all the way...
Unfortunately, when we were young Alex, bullying was almost encouraged at school. Thanks for the heart felt message. I'm following your every nautical mile, just like 4 years ago. I truly hope that this will be the one for you.
Thank you Alex. I'm 20 now, but when I was in school (middle & college), experiencing other children being bullied gave me such a sinking feeling. Thankfully I had two other brothers so I was never the victim, however I'm thankful that I was able to help fellow students affected by bullying. I would make friends with them and try to support and show them the care they didn't receive from other students. It's quite a difficult topic to talk about, especially to young children and young teenagers as they don't fully appreciate the lives they have, and how a bit of care can go a long way. Keep it up! I'll be continuing to follow you all the way to that finish line, just like I have been for many years now! All the best, Harry :)
Alex you are a special man for using your platform in such a way. My children and I are both glued to your channel. We appreciate your message but now is time for you to find another year and really distance your self from the pack. Best wishes and continued success
Every week is anti bullying week. If someone come to you with a bullying problem Never downplay it. Because it’s certainly not downplayed to that person being bullied. Kinds winds to you sir.
Such a great video, thanks Alex. We watched it with my 9-year old who is passionate about sailing and this caught us by surprise. He already suffered from bullying so this video was spot-on. And it's fantastic to hear such words from people our children admire and respect, and not only from school/parents. You're a great sailor, great person: GO!
I’ve been following the Vendée and pulling for Alex from the start but, as a dad who’s son was bullied for a time at a new school, you just made a new Superfan. You are a good man Alex, keep digging.
Well done for delivering such an important message and what a time to do and in such a powerful way. Can you also speed up a bit now please ⛵️ 💨 thank you....... 🥳
Such a kind man,and father! Let's all remember he's grinding while talking, while dealing with an IMOCA 60, with what, 5,000 square feet of sail plan? Amazing 👊🏼
One can only admire the mental strength and agility it takes to tackle this race, and tackle this issue with such intelligence. I take my hat off to such greatness! Keep smashing it Alex!
Excellent advice...good on you captain. You better get a shift on...you're being closed down!! Some sailors putting on serious spurts of speed in your wake...I'm loving this competition! Wishing you speedy sailing from Dorset.
Good for you Alex, great motivational speech! Whilst hurtling towards the southern ocean without a care in the world. Your a Legend Skipper and what an entertaining Vendée we are have, The Hub is amazing, find myself waking at 0400 to check the update. Go Alex! (Sir Alex, Shhh)
You are amazing Alex , leading a mega race and still find the time to be anti bullying campaigning , thank you and keep looking for more speed the others are closing in let’s get that lead back up to 100 nm, you can do this we are cheering you on all the way
Great updates Alex and good to talk about anti bullying week. Good to hear you have young followers and I’m sure your words will help. I was bullied at school too.
Such an important message Alex, great for you to help get it out there. That aside, loving the race/adventure once again. Gripping stuff - from our warm comfy, static seats. so, ha'way Alex and the boat, and Pip, Sam, Mirranda, in fact the whole fleet of crazy crazy people.
