At Le Mans you always have to try to get going again after a crash (unless the car is obviously totalled, of course)... Because you don't count as retired until you get out of the car and walk off. Also, since the race is so long, you can salvage a good finish position even after a lengthy repair stop (even more so in the top HC and LMP2 divisions which have far less entrants than GTs)...

Sophia did not crash, she was crashed into...several times. The first smash smashed the steering, leaving the car highly exposed in the middle of the track. This should have resulted in a FCY. Certain drivers were clearly (not shown on this clip) driving imprudently (this is a long endurance race, not a 10 lapper) on slick tyres in showery conditions, both before and after the accident... She was brave, but at that point when the car is constantly stalling and is stuck in reverse, and on top of that you let it roll back in to the middle of the road, you just have to accept it's over. The marshals told her 3 times to get out (which doesn't mean an instant DNF, as opposed to what many commenters seemingly believe), and they're trained people, not just some random morons. Yes, I know it's very easy to find the solution from the outside, but many minutes have passed since the initial crash, she should've just known better. Next time if this happens (and she finds herself on the middle of the road again), she'll get out much earlier with this experience in mind.

with hindsight , patience would have saved her from the second impact . She could have waited for the marshals to push her into the right direction , the damage caused by the gdrive coming together had compromised their result anyways .The second hit possibly hit important transmission bits , as only then the car stuck in first gear . Very unfortunate .
