I literally can't believe this movie is so underrated

It breaks my heart watching this and knowing what truly happened to her.

All the dancing couples flying from the windows looks more like ghosts than just memories. Especially when you actually realize what happened irl

You know you're a historian when you got a very very uncomfortable sad chill at 01:41 ... they even made him limp

I love the details Don Bluth put into this film, especially with things like how Anastasia is the only one with a shadow or reflection in the ballroom floor.

"In childhood the grand duchesses came up with ОТМА as a sign of sibling closeness and affection for one another, writing it in their diaries. Whilst the family was in captivity after the Russian Revolution of 1917 they were allowed to send few letters, and so the sisters often signed this nickname on cards they had written together for loved ones and friends."

This is my favourite Disney Esque movie ever. I get chills every time i watch this scene or hear this song.

Things hurts me the most is this movie is made when the body of princess anastasia is haven't found so people still believe that she's alive

The song captures the pain of a bittersweet memory so well. In regards to the real history behind this… Well let’s just say that I get the resentment of commoners against the injustice of a class system but it never justifies the slaughter of children. The french and the Russians were so wrong for this.

After watching a video about what happened to the Romanov family and the children right after watching the film just feels so wrong. Watching the animated version of “grown up” Anastasia can’t help but make me feel slightly uneasy since Anastasia never had the chance to grow up. People impersonated her for their own benefit but pity wasn’t held for the children until much later into the future. The way each of them died more specifically the children by being shot and stabbed countless of times for simply being children of the Romanov is dark enough but watching as the only “survivor” (in this universe) dance with the father and get softly touched beside her sisters disturbs me to no end and I’m not sure why. Especially the nightmare sequence later in the film, now that was completely fucked up. It’s depressing to think about how the mother and father felt watching their children being killed in front of their eyes for decisions that wasn’t even their choice. The guilt and terror must have been horrific, may the family rest in peace. I love this film but I’m surprised this was rated G, definitely gives off a more PG rating.

It really does hurt to think about what really happened! The Romanov family were truly good people, but slaughtered over political difference and corruption.

This movie is the only movie that actually topped Disney

One of my favourite childhood films. Revisiting as an adult, it holds up - beautiful animation, great songs, and engaging characters..... That said, the reality of history can be an occasional distraction. That's the trouble with making a fairy tale out of real events, the misery of the past creates cognitive dissonance. It'd be like if Aladdin was in Jerusalem during the Crusades; hard to reconcile a fun fantasy when a brutal history is screaming for attention.

Really enjoyed watching this movie as a child, but having subsequently studied the history as an adult, I have much less sympathy for Nicholas and Alexandra, although I don't feel their children deserved to die for the Romanov dynasty's wrongdoings.

I love how this song and scene is both beautiful, joyful, sad and tragic. That mixture of emotions and memories, dancing like the souls drifting across the marble ball

She was lucky to still have her Grandma and the boy. Imagine remembering your people who are all dead, walking amongst the ruins smelling of animal and human piss, filled with garbage- after strangers charge you an entry fee.

Anyone else notice how all the figures from the paintings come as aparitions, except for two - the Grand Duchess Marie, Anastasia's grand mother, and Anastasia herself as a child? Perhaps a hint that all of these nobles and royal figures are dead, and Anastasia is literally seeing their ghosts?

I cry singing this

It was based off a true story of the lost princess of Russia. They said that they never found her or her sister’s body. So I believe that their descendants are alive but they are a mystery to solve

I loved Anastasia as a child and still go as an adult. My mum was adopted, had no recollection of her family other than a name and it really helped me see from her perspective🥺
