This is an incredible addition to the Fairy Tale Playlist. The beautiful reading at the lake and the fabulous editing made this such a special video. The images and sounds are perfect. It's bringing back some wonderful memories, ones that I will always cherish. This Playlist got me through Covid but I will continue to watch and listen for the pure joy that it brings me 🥰

I have seen everyone of these storytelling videos, and have rarely missed a live reading event, and this is by far the most visually stunning, beautifully read, soothing and stirring storytelling you have ever done.

I always cry listening to this story because I learnt it in school and it brings back so many memories of my childhood.

Thank you for this. At this very moment I have tested positive for Covid and I am in immense pain. You story telling this beautiful fairytale has helped me and calm me down in more ways than one. I would love to hear more Irish tales and folklore from you. My dad had lived in Ireland and he enjoyed every bit of it to the point where he went on honeymoon with my mum and I would love to come to the beautiful place of Ireland one day.

There is a fairytale in germany which also involves swans, and a curse ... it reminded me of that. It is calle "The six swans" ... so I want to share it and excuse for any typo, I translate it on the fly: A King was hunting in the forests when he got lost and thought he wouldn't be able to find his way back. On his path he met a witch, whom he asked for aid to get out of the forest. She denied him her help just like that and told him he would die in the forest, if he didn't marry her daughter. Out of fear, he agreed and soon learned the girl was young and beautiful, though he could not watch her without a kind of dread. As he left the forest with her, he was worried about his children from his previous wife who died some time ago. He had 6 boys and 1 girl. He wasn't sure how his new wife would treat the children, so he hid them in a castle in the woods nearby. The castle was so well hid, that even he could only find it with a special yarnball that would roll the right direction as he throughs it. So the King went out often to meet his children, cause he loved them and pretty soon his new queen caught wind that something was up. She pestered the servants about it until they caved and told her everything. So she searched for the yarnball, got her hands on it and took seven shirts/chemises with her as she went for the forest, following the yarnball. The children - thinking their father was coming - run out to great him, but instead where met by their evil stepmother. She through the shirts at them and as they touched the boys, each of them turned into a swan and flew away. Only the girl was spared, because she stayed in her room. Thinking the deed was done, the queen so returned to the king. On another day the king went to the castle looking for his children, only to find his six boys missing. His daughter ran to him, telling him the terrible story, while showing him the swan feathers that still remained on the courtyard floor. But the king couldn't belive her, that his wife would be able to be so evil. To protect her, he wanted to take her with him. But the girl was rightfully terrafied of that Idea, knowing the queen would be there and asked just to stay for another night. In this night, the princess fled the castle in the woods. She walked a day and and as the sun set, she came to a cabin in the woods, where she climed the ladder to the upper floor, to lay under one of six beds to sleep and hide. She wasn't laying for long as six swans flew through the window and landed on the floor next to the beds. They flapped their wings on each other, blowing of the feathers and soon, they stood there with human bodies again. As the princess noticed this, she came out from under the bed and was delighted to see her brothers and so where they ... but also sad and one said: "You can not stay here, for this is a bandits hut. They will return soon and can't find you here. We also only have around half an hour before we turn back into swans and have to go as well. If you want to lift the curse, you need to sew six shirts from stinging nettle within six years and during this time you are not allowed to speak a single word or laugh just one time ... or all work would be for nothing." As he was finished speaking, their time was up, and they turned back into swans and flew away. So the girl went out, gathering the nettles that stung her every time, and threating them so she could use them to sew and weave this shirts for her brothers. She was working for quiet some time, while sitting on a high tree, not speaking a word, not laughing a split second, only looking at her needlework. At that time a kind and his hunters where in those woods, searching for deer. The only thing they found was this quiet but beautiful girl, sitting on the tree, working. They where standing below, shouting for her to come down and join them, but she wouldn't answer. As they kept asking her she through down her necklace so they would go, but they didn't. So she through down her belt, all gold and nice like her necklace, but they still wouldn't stop. The girl even gave them her garters, but ... they came anyway for her up the tree and brought her to their king bei force. But the young king was struck by her beauty and coverd her with his cloak, taking her with im on his horse. He felt head over heels for her and married her soon therafter (which still puzzles me, because she wouldn't speak at the alter, but what do I know :D). The kings mother did not like his beloved one bit, badmouthing her to be a witch, whom enchanted her son to fall for her. The now queen - still working on the shirts - still didn't speak and bore her first child. But the kings mother took the babe away, smeared blood on her lips and told her son, the king, his wife was a witch who ate the child. The king didn't believe it and a year later the young queen bore another child. So the kings mother did the same thing again. By this time from the six required shirts there was only one sleeve left to make. The King, despared and full of grief over his "Lost" children, asked his wive again and again, to defend herself, to tell him what happend ... but she just worked on the shirts, not speaking or laughing. So the was sentenced to burn on the stake. In the night before she would be send to die, she finished the last shirt and took every six of them with her as she was taken to the stake and bound to it. As the fire was about to be set, the swans came from above and the former princes through the shirts high for them. As the Shirts made of nettle touched them, the Curse was broken. They stopped the wood from burning, rescuing their sister and now that she was allowed to speak again, she explained everything to her husband the king. His mother was exiled and both children where found not so far away and healthy. So she lifed her happily everafter with her king and her brothers lifed there too.
