When deployed cheaply and at scale, artificial intelligence will be able to infer things about people, places, and entire nations, which humans alone never could. This is both good and potentially very, very bad.

If you were to think of some of the most overlooked stories of 2023, artificial intelligence would probably not make your list. OpenAI's ChatGPT has changed how we think about AI, and you've undoubtedly read plenty of quick takes about how AI will save or destroy the planet. But according to Princeton sociologist Zeynep Tufekci, there is a super important implication of AI that not enough people are talking about.
"Rather than looking at what happens between you and me if we use AI," Tufekci said to Ian on the sidelines of the Paris Peace Forum, "What I would like to see discussed is what happens if it's used by a billion people?" In a short but substantive interview for GZERO World, Tufekci breaks down just how important it is to think about the applications of AI "at scale" when its capabilities can be deployed cheaply. Tufekci cites the example of how AI could change hiring practices in ways we might not intend, like weeding out candidates with clinical depression or with a history of unionizing. AI at scale will demonstrate a remarkable ability to infer things that humans cannot, Tufekci explains.

well, the cyber eye in the sky has a unique angle on human behaviour and so long humans look for the best possible employee, the odds will be stacked, exponentially, against the weak and infirm. socioeconomic guardrails increasingly important for future societal stability.

I’ve been thinking this. Most of the problems we face come from humanity finding something deemed ‘good’ and then scaling it endlessly, until it is an unbearable burden. Carbon emissions were fine in moderation, so why must we pursue as much as possible as quickly as possible? Quantity becomes a quality when we are blind to the consequences of collective actions. And the remedies need to be legitimate options: command and control limitations, designated functions, comunity management, rationing, quotas, eligibility criteria, sharing, conditional access, intermittency, etc.

Also the inverse becomes a problem. The human brain is biased, because it detects patterns and nuances, often unconsciously. And reality consists of so much more than data can describe. Relying on computation, risks excluding human intuition, and the judgement that comes from wisdom.

When you are only frequently talking about AI there have been many kinds of Chinese AI cars in running on the Chinese road. Same as 5G or 6G tech, Huawei is leading the Chinese AI tech to a new height, no matter how much sanctions from the west.

Ian mentioned in one of his recents videos that tens of thousand of Palestinians citizen have been killed by Israelis . If I heard you correctly is it fair to say that you are antisemitic , nothing wrong with admitting if this is the case
