Derek Hass (main writer) and the writers/producers decided Otis would be good to kill off because Otis knew and was close to everyone in the firehouse, he was roommates with Brett and Cruz and a best friend to all so basically Derek and stuff wanted everyone to be sad and affect everyone but they also fractured Brett's arm to equal out things but it didn't really do anything lmao:((((
