This is my Grandmother! Bertha Melson! I did not expect to view her on RU-vid! WOW! REALLY, I AM IN AWE. GLORY TO GOD. I REMEMBER HEARING HER EVERY SINCE I WAS LIKE 7 YRS. OLD SINGING THIS SONG, AND IT STILL HAVE AN IMPACT ON ME.
That's beautiful man! Listing to your grandmother cry out to God with this song daily must have been great for your spirit. I wish I had a grandmother who cried out to God daily. I'd be crying with her man.
This is the church I enjoy! The new age stuff is nice and everything but there is nothing that will hold a candle to how services USED TO BE!!!!! SANGGGG MOTHER!!!!!
Queen Bertha Melson was a true blessing to the church. She was an anointed psalmist that gave her all in the service of the Lord and will be greatly missed. RIH Queen Bertha. You will not be forgotten. See you in the morning when the trumpet sounds.
In her younger days, she was in a group called the Lux Singers along with Rev. Clay Evans and others, the leader of the group, Beatrice Lux, my great great aunt, who I believed passed away in the mid sixties, and Amelia Osteen, my great grandmother, who played the organ may have performed with them, passed away in 1959. I was seeking information anyone may have on them. Their maiden name is Hudson, born and raised in Louisiana before moving to Chicago.
God!!! thats the kind of soloist .i like to hear on sundays!! if she would have sung that song like that at my church, there would have been so many people shouting, they would have had to call the fire department!lol please post more.
This was some true old school church! It too reminds me of the days growing up in church as a child. I love it!!! I don't see what the big fuss was about. Back in the day there was a difference in "shoutin'" among denominations. In the Baptist church, it was more of an empotional thing. That's why they called it "getting happy". In the sanctified church (COGIC or Pentecostal), when you were in the spirit you danced. The same thing just different forms of expression.
I've done the same thing. I grew up between the Baptist and AME Church. Since I've been in my late teens and early twenties, I've been able to identify w/COGIC. Now that I'm 30, I feel that I'm getting ready to make that transition. I have also worked at a Methodist church and have learned to worship in all types of settings. (Methodist are normally quite and reserved. lol) When it all is over, we must worship Him in spirit and truth however we choose to do it. (cry, run, jump or shout.)
I remember those days. Here in the small town where I live JC Oliver's Holy Light band dresses in all white sometimes. It is really cool. Thomas A Dorsey and his folks used to do that. The old National Baptist Conventions used to be like that.
Amazing! I will always remember the very first time I heard this song - I was about 11 years old on a church bus on the way to vacation Bible school for the very first time ever in my life. Music has always touched me and through this song, Jesus spoke to me. I needed to hear this song and chose this - glad I did. I feel Him with me even now. Praise God!!!
Great comment! Growing up, I was Baptist, but when I becane an adult, I made it a point to visit as many different denominations as I could. The praise was different in every church, but it was all good!!! I'm COGIC now, but I do miss that good old Baptist shoutin'sometimes:)
You can always tell when it's 1st Sunday in Chicago. A lot of churches would dress in White. It's part of the Lords Supper and Baptism recognition. I always say a good Baptist man would wear either Black or White or a combo of the two on the 1st Sunday. lol
LOL...the lady at the end who "got happy" as we used to say back in da day had a true Baptist what I like to call "seat shout" LOL!!! Hallin and fallin out and somebody tryna get yo glasses off yo face while you in da middle of fallin out...tryna take the baby if u happen to have one in yo arms at da time LOL!!!! Dat is too funny and brings back so many memories...LOL!!!
BaptistBoi yes sir. I grew up baptist in Mississippi and I remember those "shouts" very well. I'm cogic now but nothing like a good ol fashion baptist shout.
I agree best version of this song! I've looked and looked for another one like this style. But haven't found one. Love this... It's defiantly on my favorites!
Her name is Rev Deanna James. She used to always read the letter of the week during the Sunday AM 'What A Fellowship Hour' telecast. I met her once and she's actually a very nice lady.
I am 26 and feel the exact same way! To bad many of the young people today don't have a clue what "real church" is all about!!! Mother is sho nuff sangin!!!
This was my nothers song sometimes they would have to come get her off the ushers floor when it was sung i put this in my favorites to remind me of her now this woman singing is what we'd call a seasoned singer blessss her
Hopefully some time soon. I don't have a connection in my computer for the RCA cable, so, once I have a way to do that, I'll definitely be posting some videos.
it's not screaming..smh. it's called squalling. for preachers it would be whooping. its a musical artform when executed correctly can bring the house DOWN.
that wasn't the emcee, that was the church announcer who ALWAYS interrupted people praising God during the "What A Fellowship Hour" broadcast. A lot people didn't like her because of that, and I was one of them. lol
This song was originally composed and song by a Mexican band of 5 men called "Los Tigres Del Norte". The song is "Un Dia A La Vez". If you eant to see how the original song sounded like, RU-vid; "Un Dia A La Vez" by Los Tigres Del Norte.
Sing Bertha!!!! Is she still around? I have a video of the TRIBUTE TO CHICAGO PIONEERS that Apostle Hinton did for the Chicago singers, and Mother Melson sings "His Eye Is On The Sparrow."
Thank you "Snowhill3"!!! I don't even know how or why she turned the comment all around into something that it was never intended to be!?!? But, I'm glad that somebody saw her, (what I consider to be negative) comments from my point-of-view!!!
Hello one and all. type nancy mclean in YOU TUBE to hear my Mother's scottish accent with this song. Actually recorded in a hotel in Blackpool England. She was well into her 60s at the time. Let me know your assumption. Thank you in anticipation. Eldest son, David.
"SistaBright"...the comment was not meant to be made into anything "deep" and I was not laughing at the lady! I was laughing because it brought back memories from my childhood and how people used to shout in church. That's all...nothing more and nothing less!!! My relationship with the Lord is getting stronger and stronger "One Day at a Time"!!! As a matter of fact he is dealing with me about entering the ministry if that answers your question?!?!
"SistaBright" it's really not that serious!!! U are taking this to a whole other level it was never intended to go! I admit I was being sarcastic at the end of my last comment but that is only because of u seemigly being judgemental! I don't know you from Eve and you are talking about me like you know me personally! First questioning my relationship w/the Lord and then telling me that I am not ready the enter the ministry all b/c of a comment made on here that was totally taken out of context!!!
The Bible does say "judge not lest ye be judged" and it seems to me you are casting an awful lot of judgement b/c of a simple comment that I made about the clip reminding me and bringing back memories from when I was a child in church and just turned it all around into something totally unecessary!!! Never meant to offend you in any way or whatever happend to make you react so defensively, but like I said, the clip was funny to me b/c it brought back memories thats all...nothing more or less!!!
From reading this "argument", if you would allow me to say, its you that's acually in the wrong sistabright. If BaptistBoi is anything like me, I would get defensive if you insulted my relationship with Jesus.
fellowship missionary baptist didnt care!!! they let the spirit move through a mouse if it came down to it!!! thats how all churches should be BAPTIST OR ANYTHING ELSE for that matter
This song is really a beautiful song. She has a good voice but in my personal opinion, she is ruining it by screaming when she was singing it. It's horrible, she killed the song.
