You’ve got to out to the reef . Most of these islands are not part of the reef structure where all the beauty and fish are.
@WalkingandTalkingAussieGirl
not sure what your plans are in Brisbane, but a good day trip is Stradbroke Island (you can book a day trip), Tangalooma Islands you can snorkel amongst shipwrecks (may want to book accommodation for one night as its a bit of hike from here), if you are in central brisbane there is Southbank as its called with museums and free 'beach pool',. Mt cootha where you get a full view of brisbane and there is a cafe there and there are small hiking tracks, then one hour either north or south of brisbane there is the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast with their own sets of beaches! No crocs there!

This is like the most touristy video series of Australia and you are hopscotching from one major city to another spending 2 days in each city and this is hardly the Australian experience. If you really want to experience Australia, rent a 4WD and drive the off-road tracks of the outback. This series is hardly interesting with 2 days in every major metro in Australia drinking beer and visiting the spots listed on TripAdvisor. There’s got to be a thousand videos before you of people doing the same thing in the same cities. Most of your videos are just mass produced tourist videos and the problem is, there is no shortage of them on RU-vid. If you want the viewers to engage in your videos, you need to film in off the beaten path and offer new perspectives in new places. Your videos now have less than 10% of your subscribers engaging in your videos and your view numbers reflect that. These videos are so pedestrian and touristy with nothing new or new insights. You hardly ever spend any worthwhile time in any place staying just 2 days and burning jet fuel to be away somewhere else halfway across the world 2 days later. There is no depth or new perspective on any of your videos. Sorry if that was harsh but I just wanted to be honest.

I live in Cairns and it really is the best place to live. Great weather, beautiful scenery in all directions and a nice lifestyle. I’d recommend actually going to the outer reef or Fitzroy instead of Green Island (it’s the last place I recommend for people going out on the reef) but it still looks like you had a nice day. If you can, get to the Atherton Tablelands or the Daintree - my favourite places in the region.

I don’t know about Americans but Australians don’t swim in a harbour 😂. You keep saying you can’t swim in the beach in the city , of course not , because it’s not called a “beach” it’s harbour / esplanades . Also cairns is such a vibrant city , don’t be so quick to pass judgment and says it’s a boring city 😮travel north and you will see breathtaking beaches less than 20 min from the city centre

Hey Gabriel. I have been watching your extreme in depth series in greece for my own research as going there this year. I'm Australian, grew up in Cairns & have been living in south east qld Brisbane & the gold coast for 15 years. I worked in tourism selling tours for all of Queensland, if you need any advice just drop me a reply. :-) I noticed that you are not taking the time to see one of the biggest countries, which makes me a bit confused, you need time & lots of it in Australia to see it properly. You need to hire a car in that part of Australia to truley see everything or do many expensive day tours. The northern beaches of cairns where I grew up is where the beaches are and nets you can swim in for the jellyfish season. To see the reef you need to go to the outter barrier reef, not green island as its closest to Cairns. The further north also gets more pristine. Although expensive, I would suggest if you can to take a low level flight across the reef. Port Douglas is one of my favourite places, sunday markets best time, Mossman Gorge a must. Also have cape tribulation, daintree river, now thats where there are crocs. The tablelands in the hills with alll the little villages & waterfall circuits & lakes. Also suggest south of Cairns, do not miss the whitsundays.

It's a matter of economics and exchange rates. Everything is less in certain countries, wages and the prices of things, so it balances out. This tends to correspond with the standard of living in the country so yes, it's not exactly fair but it's the way it is and the businesses and families still appreciate tourist dollars in their countries.

Cairns and nearby islands look great, tropical and clean. Although: I thought the veggie burger & chips, two scoops ice-cream & drink lunch cost at $47.00 AUD was on the high side. The other issue are the Irukandji jellyfish which inhabit the Australian tropics. They are very small and very poisonous and can attach themselves to your face even if you are wearing a wet suit. They can be deadly and can cause a lot of pain to the survivors.

I've always wanted to visit Cairns, as well as the Whitsunday Islands, both of which are in Northern Queensland. Cairns reminds me somewhat of Naples, Fla, except that Naples has nice beaches bordering the city. The weather looks ideal, and the Great Barrier Reef is obviously a must see. The weird thing for us North Americans about Australia is that it gets warmer and more tropical the further north you go. It seems counter-intuitive. Anyways, enjoy the rest of your stay down under and keep up the great work with the videos!

Every thing is the opposite in the Southern Hemisphere. The further South you go it gets colder because the closer you get to Antartica. Aussies are friendly and helpful. If you ask a local for the best place to eat on a budget you will probably get the best meal deal in the area, and don’t forget that there is no requirement to tip or any added taxes. The listed price is all inclusive. There are local restaurants of course for “fine dining”. Whether at home or travelling, I look for a cafe/coffee shop during the day but may go to a local Club, pub or restaurant for lunch or an evening meal. My husband and I took our grandchildren out for dinner last night to our local club and the meal cost was under AU$80. “CLUBS” such as RSL’s (clubs run for veterans), sports clubs such as football, surf, Lawn Bowls etc all service regional town or city suburbs raising money for the community through the provision of bistros, poker machines, musical entertainment and social events. There is also a huge trend to offer “Vegan” and “Vegetarian” options everywhere with many “Vegan only” cafes, restaurants and buffets in Melbourne (my home town) and Australia wide.

You are making me feel homesick. Been living in the UK since 2009. Another nasty creature in Cairns is the blue ringed Octopus. You should head up to Kuranda, and if you have a car go to Cape Tribulation.

Airlie beach ( about 500 kms south of Cairns would have been a better access point to te reef, more pretty too, more to do and you could prob do a day trip to the reef and back for agbout US$100..You should really cheack out Airlie Beach, I think if you did, you would say,,,Ok Im staying here for the rest of my life!

1:45 We traveled to Green Island yesterday on that very same boat, the "Reef Rocket", but you couldn't stand in the front where you were because of the massive wind and waves. The island itself was pretty cool. We chose the glass bottom boat to view the coral reef.

Straight to Port Douglas mate. Its so much better than Cairns. Head into the Daintree Forrest. Walk along he nine mile beach. But be warned. Its the milionaire playground in general and has some of the most expensive real estate and boats in the country. Although it does cater to the more budget conscious traveller too

You lucked out, there is great diving and snorkelling there. Fiajt coam, sea cucumbers, turtles, rays, sharks etc.... such a shame it didnt turn out for you with limited time. You should really get to the Kimberly and Pilbara regoin, thats mire your adventurous style. Its wild and less touristy and you have the Ningaloo reef fringing the shore. The best part of the great Barrier reef in in the open ocean for diving..

Great content as usual.. Re Brisbane (Brisvagas), you will hear about walking 'Southbank and Howard Smith Wharves'. Tip, these are much better enjoyed at night. Also there's great rainforest hiking with caves canyons and waterfalls around 'Springbrook' about an hours drive south. From there it's about another 30 min on to our famous Gold Coast beaches.

Cross aren't a problem, they were protected after they were on verge if extinction. When you swim in Thailand they used to be everywhere until they were wiped out of along with most of SE Asia areas.

My jumping off place for the Great Barrier Reef was Port Douglas. Then we took a wave piercer out almost 45 minutes to the reef to snorkel. A-mazing!
@pl434

Correction.........it took an hour and 45 minutes to get to the reef where we snorkeled. Well worth the long trip out. We were told the reef is strictly controlled and they grant only a certain number of permits to be able to dive and snorkel. I remember the platform being owned by a company called Quicksilver. I am not sure if it has any affiliation to the clothing company of the same name. Gabe, are you going to try to visit at least the edge of the Outback? Definitely worth the experience. We also visited an Aboriginal community, but prepare a bit in advance because travel into some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities require a permit, similar to visiting a National Park. Well worth the information received from the native people-so interesting. I would not leave Australia without a deeper understanding of the Aboriginal people.
