One Direction: Did Zayn Malik nearly get booted out of the band? The boys tell us the true story

One Direction have revealed they almost fired Zayn Malik from the group at the start of their career because he kept being late for rehearsals.
However, during our exclusive interview with the boys, Zayn defended his lateness: "That was early on, when the boys first got together and decided to meet each other. Something was going on at home, which is why I didn't go to rehearsals".
The boys are currently promoting their new film 'This Is Us' which hits UK cinemas on August 29. Report by Andrea Lilly.

I agree he is really good but I just feel like no one is better than the other. They are all great singers in their own way. Harry has the powerhouse voice, Naill is light but deep, Zayn has the high notes, Liam has the most range, and Louis has the voice that’ll make you fall asleep because it’s so calming

It's so sad to see Zayn nowadays, I mean he looks sad here too but especially now. I think all the so called "Fans" calling him a Terrorist, mocking his religion and his "free Palestine" comment, which was totally fair for him to make, him getting ALL the heat on the smoking video and Louis just skating by practically unscathed, he's stuck in that horrible PR forced relationship with Perrie, Modest rejects his music, people make fun of his other Muslim friends, like it is ALL too much! No wonder the guy's heart isn't in it anymore. I feel so sad for him, I wish he could enjoy the fame like the rest of his bandmates. One more thing, that interviewer has ZERO class. I mean who thinks a scene about the other members talking about Zayn behind his back and wanting to kick him out is funny? Not an appropriate question to ask and Zayn face just shows how uncomfortable he feels.

I think he'll pull through it, he only has one more year in the contract, but I think he probably feels more himself with Naughty Boy and that entire crew. Like Zayn is always talking about r&b and rap music, and I mean I think he gets along with his bandmates but I think their style is different. I noticed when I watch their concerts, the guys can be REALLY quirky and do some pretty nerdy things and Zayn sometimes looks like he feels out of place. I don't know if that really makes sense, but when I see them all together the the guys look so close and Zayn just looks like he's on the outside :(
