Nice, Andrew. I went to my local record store (in Inverness) last Monday to buy the CD and, to my pleasant surprise, the sales dude (who is literally named after Paul because Macca was mum's favourite Beatle) told me that the album had sold out on the day the shop received it. We had a nice chat about Beatley stuff and he took my phone number so that he can call me as soon as they get in a new delivery.

I didn’t care too much about Wings in their day mainly because I was in mourning over the breakup of the Beatles. But I have a newfound respect for the band. My greatest respect goes to Paul McCartney, who could pull it off successfully with two groups, despite that Wings changed their lineup a few times.

One Hand Clapping's always had this mysterious feel to it since we've only ever been drip-fed bits and pieces of it over the years, so it's nice to have a polished up official release now. I really like these performances, the more upbeat tracks in particular are incredibly energetic.

Listening to the album as I write these lines… Raw energy, strong presence of Linda, Paul’s voice booming through on Jet, Soily and the rest. It is a fresh discovery for me. Never had the chance to get my hands on bootlegs, which is probably for the best. The sound on Apple music is fantastic with Dolby Atmos. Will definitely get my hands on the vinyl. A great release!!!! It is on par with the best of Wings. My ears are happy. Thx Paul for this unexpected gift 💝

Fine work, Andrew! An unboxing/history lesson/review, all rolled up into one! This release was a dream come true for me and it did not disappoint! I would easily rank this in my top 10. The mix is stellar (both stereo & particularly Dolby Atmos) and one of my last Macca "grails" was achieved with a version of Blue Moon Of Kentucky that is not sourced from a scratchy acetate. Minor "grail" achievement goes to Baby Face without the overdubbed narrative. Quick shout out goes to Geoff Britton. He may not have been a "clever" drummer like Joe English, but from a sheer power standpoint, he was a force of nature!

This is one vinyl venture. I’m holding out on buying. After years of listening to all these tracks on bootlegs, it was a treat listening to One Hand Clapping on streaming for the first time in such great quality! One thing I would’ve suggested if they could have included video on a DVD from the TV performance and of course backyard performance at Abbey Road. That would’ve been a real treat. As always, thanks for another informative video Andrew! Cheers!

Nowadays there is far too much conversation and comment about Paul’s voice and the effect age has had. It would be far more sensible for us to all reflect on how good Paul’s voice was at its peak. At this time in his life he was an excellent vocalist and this LP shows that he was in total command of his performances and had the versatility which many top level singers wish they had. Listening to these performances it’s quite stunning how easy he makes it seem. It’s about time this was released and given the attention that it deserves. Very nice review as always! Great work.

Thanks for another well researched video, with fascinating detail. This period was one of Paul's most creatively fertile. I haven't bought the One Hand Clapping yet. To me it's most interesting as the inspiration of what would result in the most exciting three record live album of the seventies, Wings Over America, and a culmination of Paul's effort to find artistic achievement rivaling the Beatles. My only disappointment was that Wings Over America couldn't have included songs from Ram or Wild Life (i.e. Back Seat of My Car, Uncle Albert Admiral Halsey, Tomorrow, Dear Friend). The biggest omission from Wings Over America was, of course, Let It Be. Interesting that Paul was rehearsing it but then cut it from the playlist for the tour. P. S. I wish Denny Laine could have seen this.

"the sound of one hand clapping" is a famous Zen koan, a type of riddle or paradoxical statement used in Zen Buddhism to provoke deep thought and challenge conventional thinking. This particular koan originates from the teachings of the Japanese Zen master Hakuin Ekaku. The purpose of such koans is to transcend logical reasoning and prompt a meditative state, encouraging practitioners to experience a direct insight into the nature of reality.

I'll have to check this out eventually. I don't know how much of this material ended up being played at concerts, but I do know that this has to be better than the bootlegs (or even audience tapes of the shows this material might have been played at). Paul McCartney is a HUGE star, and needed to be a bit selective of just "how" and "who" he performed with...and for how long. Let's face it, he's captain of his ship!! You mentioned the WINGS OVER AMERICA tour, and that proves the point about how Paul has to be "picky," and/or the final voice when it comes to alll the decidion making. To me, the WINGS OVER AMERICA album has always sounded bad, from a sound-engineering standpoint. But, if Paul didn't put something "official" from that tour, the bootleggers would. So, very good on Paul, and for us, that he's putting this out now.

You ask, 'One of Paul McCartney's best albums?' Hm ..bit of a generalise question - 'one of...'. Apart from the fresh sound and Macca's vocal performance (1974, he still had a great voice!) I'd suggest it's a work in progress. Many of the hotchpotch of songs were destined for more production and arrangement enhancements. So these sound a bit thin as in raw and uncut. Still interesting and very listenable, but like the so called underdubbed version of Band on the Run, OHC is half-baked and expensive. So expensive for material already for the most part released as bonus tracks on Macca's legacy albums. But thanks for asking!

It is amazing how Denny was so naive then about the biz he was in. It wasn't long after those comments when Patrick Moraz sued The Moody's for breach of contract. Oh, the irony! Paul was right....again. I've seen video of the farm and the people and it all seemed so tranquil there. It is out in the boonies, fer sure. Not much to do but lays about.

I totally missed the connection to King Crimson's Happy Family, but it is definitely a Paul thing to respond indirectly to a scathing putdown with an absolute barn burner. (See also "Too Many People.") While OHC won't replace Wings Over America as the exemplar of Paul and Wings live performance prowess, it's certainly up there with the best of his best albums.

Hi Andrew- a Bit short but enjoyable! I think it is a crime that the 7" bonus tracks are not available to everyone- Side One Blackpool Blackbird Country Dreamer Side Two Twenty Flight Rock Peggy Sue I’m Gonna Love You Too It is typical of PM- always messing around with the catalogue and cannot deliver smoothly! As for albums - yes it cool but keep in mind Paul hasn't released a strong album for almost 50 years- just alot of half baked ones! The recent ones have been awful hence the coloured vinyl nonsense! Now my headache is do I splash out for JL's Mind Games- the box set price has more than doubled and almost tripled-- that hurts with so much other strong coming out! HELP!!

Andrew's "Content is sometimes more important than quality" is quite perceptive: It underwrites the historic and commercial value of the bootlegs, popularized by Bob Dylan's Great White Wonder (released in July 1969). Bootlegs once infuriated greats like Macca, before they recognized the new market that was ploughed open, by the boots. We wouldn't have the super deluxe editions we now treasure, if it weren't for these bootleggers...which gives me another opportunity to apply a most English expression, in punctuation: Savvy?!?

Good point. In the 1970s I bought a Bob Dylan bootleg LP of the "Royal Albert Hall" concert. Two of the songs were rocking versions not heard on studio albums. I treasure them to this day, made easier to play by the official CD release. Maybe the recording was left in the vault because Dylan was so obviously stoned on stage. I don't care, the songs are great and deserve to be heard.

Excellent! I’m really looking forward to getting this. Have had the bootlegged video and audio for quite some time and always thought this has got to come out! To exclude “Suicide” is kinda bewildering though. Maybe if they release a remastered video it’ll be there. I’ve loved this collection for years. Great tension, great playing. Rough n’ Ready and some lovely tunes to round it all off. Fun unboxing. Thanks again Andrew!

I'm trying to recall another artist of the 70's who had hit singles that didn't show up on an album. Just like the old days.

@@nickforemanreal good pick. ELP occurred to me but the song, Brain Salad Surgery, didn't chart, iirc.
