One Hot, Dirty & Painful Job on Our PORTUGAL FARM RENOVATION

This week on the homestead, we start a big job that's going to drastically improve our day to day life...fencing the entire farm! It's a mammoth task so it's going to take us a few weeks to complete, but in this video we started with the worst & most difficult area of the property.
As well as starting our farm fencing, we also planted our new strawberry plants & Victoria pressed some spring flowers for future craft projects.
Please LIKE THIS VIDEO if you enjoy it & SUBSCRIBE if you want to follow our journey as we bring this farm back to life! Also say hi in the comments! We'd love to hear from you 😊
Ricky & Victoria x
-------------
We're Ricky & Victoria 👋 We're slowly bringing an abandoned off grid Portuguese farm back to life & transforming it into a beautiful homestead for us & our two rescue dogs Teddy & Poppy.
We both agree that we’re not experts in anything that we do here, however we don’t let that stop us from giving it a try. We live our life by trying. We live our life by doing. We live our LIFE BY LIVING.

When working around brambles wear rose handlers gloves that reach nearly to your elbows. Underneath wear metal handlers gloves -- the thin kind that stop metal splinters. Burn cuttings from brambles because they can root from a small piece that drop on the ground.

Another excellent VLOG. That is a lot of olive trees. We only had 20 odd that we planted ourselves 20 years ago so still maturing but we were still self-sufficient in oil in a good year. Hard work picking, but nothing better than taking the results of 3 or 4 long days effort to the mill and then sampling your own oil at the start of a well-earned dinner out. Learn how to sharpen your saw - it's not that difficult, doesn't take long and makes a huge difference. I just used a file, but there are gadgets that help get the angles right. Where we lived in Liguria there were lots of places where you could get the chain sharpened and the saw serviced which is also worth doing occasionally.

Hi guys - just FYI.. strawberries are self fertile and so need little or no help pollinating! If your greenhouse vents/ doors are open then plenty of insects will find their way in..but you can help by shaking the pots when the pollen is around(warmer times of day) or running you fingers over the plants to shake out the pollen. Strawbs have been grown under glass to get an early crop since early Victorian times- at least ..!

Hello Grace 💖 how are you doing today?

87 olive trees🎉. Invest in a solid chipper because these trees will need pampering forever, and the byproduct of chipping the waste, will pay off big time. Brambles are forever. Absolutely cut the dead apple tree down and try and remove the residue off the property. Bless you two.❤

Apple tree lifespan can vary by type, yours look in the older side. It may be that they had a long full life already. Mine topped out at 25 years. The wood can make nice fire wood.

Not when it's infested with termites. I wouldn't have thought taking that wood anywhere near the buildings would be a good idea. It probably needs burning where it is to kill the termite infestation.

You probably don’t need to buy a new chain for your chainsaw. Watch today’s episode of Project Portugal, where Nick explains how to sharpen your chain.

When British people talk about brambles, what are they. On Vancouver Island we have invasive blackberries and sometimes wild roses. But we say blackberries

It’s the same thing 🙂 The blackberry is the fruit of the bramble bush. Hope that clears it up! 😊

Ricky, don’t buy a new chain, buy a small round file and sharpen the existing chain.

WHAT!!!! He didn't remember the ball! So funny! 🐶😊⚾︎ Thanks for putting in that clip....you folks are getting a lot better at the daunting task of editing video's. So well done. I hope you feel really good about what you are achieving....and....great team work getting tasks started...and progressing along. I realize that when there is a daunting task I too have to convince myself to "ease" into it! And as with most cases, once into the task, more gets done than expected...which feels like a great accomplishment! You are not alone eh! 👍☺🇨🇦
