The amount of people who don't know Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union is frightening. Victory Day was achieved by the labour and blood of millions of Ukrainians, Russians, Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Belorussians, Georgians, Kazakhs, Kirghiz, Tajiks, Turkmens, and Uzbeks all fighting together against the scourge of Nazism. It was good of Russians to salute, give roses and award old Ukrainians who fought in WW2. Some were even happy to see the Hammer and Sickle flags again. A lot of old Ukrainians and Russians miss the old times of Ukrainian and Russian unity and community.

День Победы - очень печальное событие. Лично из-за того, что мой прадед был убит вторгшимися немцами, ему было 62 года в то время, моему деду было всего 17 лет, и поэтому он пошел только для того, чтобы найти всю нашу семью, убитую немцами за то, что она находилась в «партизанском штабе», о существовании которого они понятия не имели. Мне приятно, что другие празднуют и слушают песни о нашем освобождении нашей земли и других стран.

It makes me happy that the Soviet Union won ww2 against Germany and Japan, But why Japan? The Soviets attacked the island that they were sharing with the Japanese, that was actually russian once. They attacked it 2 or 1 days before the nukes, the Soviets were getting closer to the Japanese main island, so they had no other choice but to surrender.

The Japanese wanted to continue after the bombs, it was the symbolic Soviet destruction of the Imperial Kwantung Army in Manchuria that forced the Japanese to surrender. They surrendered to the USA so that the Emperor could survive. The writing was on the wall anyway.
