Dr. J.M. Kenoyer surveys the rise of the ancient Indus civilization, its indigenous origins and how the latest research is changing our perspective on the civilization. This includes new research on climate change, raw material procurement, the wide expanse of the civilization and connections between cities, the earliest levels at Mohenjo-daro, the first glimpses of DNA research. A comparison of cities and discussion of recent research initiatives. An excellent illustrated survey.

Hi, I've noticed that some of colour-painted pottery of the Indus valley civilization look similar with ones founded in Ban Chieng, the northeast of Thailand and also dated quite the same period of time. Moreover, some lapis lazuli ornaments were founded there too. Might there have been any possibilities of relationship between the two civilisations?

As for warfare. In Rig vedic text (written many yrs later in Sanskrit) by Aryans ,it said that people from each house , anyone fit enough to fight will volunteer for war. There wasn't any standing army. Maybe that goes for Harappa too? Thanks for the videos. It's very informative.

Indus people descendants who migrated from their Sindhus trading settlement due to some reasons, moved down towards their original homeland Tamilnadu. Still they are living practising their traditional culture and traditions.

Egyptians, Sumerians, Greek etc., needed to communicate with each other and so had the Rosetta stone for inter-language references. The Indus may needed to keep much as secret and may never needed a Rosetta stone. However Egyptian, Sumerian or Greek resort to spoken language carried in to the present. Indian spoken language may hold the secret of the Vedic script.

Yes. Amman worship. It shows the IVC may have had matrilineal society.

I highly doubt the Unicorn is mythical. The Unicorn resembles Nilgai. The animal still found in India. Either it's that or it's an extinct animal.

@4:06 he states people were living in the indus more than 2 million years ago??? contradicts out of africa theory; which is obsolete theory today, but how 2 million??? @10:17 Ravi stone seal with fylfot(swastika) seems to indicate much more than stated. @12:49 harappa developed early 'writing system'; i would definitely disagree with using that term. many people had some 'writing' at that time, but to call it a 'system' is incorrect; there is a difference.

@4:06 No it doesn't. They were not modern people, but earlier humans like Australopithecus, which also migrated from Africa. Neaderthals and Denovisians are humans that did not move from Africa as they are never found there, but all modern humans clearly came from Africa. DNA research has made that irrefutable. In Europe and the Levant they found themselves some handsome and exotic Neaderthals, in Asia they met some buxum Denovisians to have offspring with or vice versa. Alternatively though they may have been food or trophies at times as well as trade partners. Humans tend to have a wide variety of interactions, so we'll find examples of those varieties. If Chimpansees have wars for the best resources, no doubt violent conflict is another thing we have in common. @10:17 The swastika clearly is a symbol that has retained its importance in the area, similar to the sort of decorations people wear. I wonder if the bovine divinity on the pots is related to the holy cow. I wouldn't be surprised to find that later civilisations and religions incorporated religious concepts into their own pantheons for continuity, much like Jahweh is a variant of the god El of Babylon. The burial practice or rather the lack of that is also a practice that has survived the ages. @12:49 A system of symbols that carry meaning understandable by others and considering the use of similar symbols in other areas in a different order indicates a writing system that conveys sounds. That is writing. The increased use of those symbols also indicates an increase in importance for an elite group. Knowledge is power as it certainly helps organising society. Linear B was only adopted by the Myceneans after they conquered Knossos and understood its merits.

@@chubbymoth5810 btw, i like your name; made me smile; why that name? just curious. @4:06 he does clearly state people were in the indus area 2 million years ago. this should not be stated, even by you accepting Australopithecus as 'earlier humans'; it will give people in india(and elsewhere) that man today was in india First. this is misleading. you seem to be a faith believer in dna research. does it have any faults? YES, it does; Many. one being the UNKNOWN 98.5% of dna called 'Junk dna'. the list goes on so you can learn it yourself. i wouldn't bet any amount of money on dna science making an exact replica based on 1.5% known(maybe less). we have to stop kidding ourselves on the KNOWN on dna. it can be misused for the wrong reasons when we start assuming the science is complete. other assumptions based on dna are faulty as well. according to other research on what type of man leaving africa is actually showing that other 'species'(species definition is still under debate; yes, it is). cro magnon man is closest to modern man in europe, not in africa. i am not saying this because of phenotype of africans today. in egyptian and previous time in North Africa, the phenotype of most of North Africans were caucasian type. even based on the dna you support. i only say that the term 'species' and 'modern man' lead to saying one modern man is the same as modern man in the past long ago. today, humans are a result of Hybridization(which you seem to agree with to a degree) - neandertals with a species of man, not sub saharan(let's say europe); denisovans with a species of man, not sub saharan(let's say asia) - and there is still UNKNOWN 'ghost dna' in sub saharan africans. also, another couple of 'species' of man were discovered recently. next, the flyfot(swastika) is observed around the world. plus other commonalities that cannot just be explained away as Collective Conscious. i am an odds betting person. things were most likely spread by contact, then a primal chance dice game. can happen sometimes, but rarely. next, 'writing system' is not just sounds compredhended by others. YOU commented, "A system of symbols that carry meaning understandable by others and considering the use of similar symbols in other areas in a different order indicates a writing system that conveys sounds." ---- the use of sounds is language ---- even at that, language has to be defined. a 'Writing System' is a SET of RULES to Visually reflect language based on sounds ... Shared Commonly by others. HUGE difference. sumerians didn't have the First 'Writing System'; they had the First 'Writing' --- Known that is. i hope this clarifies some things i commented. i hope others don't loosely say terms that really are not clearly defined like 'species' or misused like 'writing system'. people tend to use terms loosely and confusion begins. thanks if you read.
