Robert smith is dressed so casually yet he looks so cool, I love simons dancing throughout and lol’s drum loops sound dope, this is the best performance of this song
1982 ... and I was born after 9 years. More recent recordings do not convey this atmosphere. Sorry for the errors, I am writing with the help of Google translator. Greetings from Russia :)
As a guitarist who just recently got into bass playing and is still in the process of learning from other people's songs I completely agree. Simon Gallup and Andy Rourke (The Smiths) are my favourites.
one of the best live/studio versions of what is already one of the darkest and most intense songs ever by the Cure - just a big shame that the end cuts off abruptly rather than allow us another minute of that killer guitar solo which really DOES sound like the end of the world !!
@@joff2440 Sadly, he would be out of The Cure from the summer of 1982 through the fall of 1984. He and Robert Smith would make up just before the sessions for their 1985 album, The Head on the Door, had started. During his break from The Cure, Gallup would form a new band called Cry with Matthieu Hartley (who played keyboards with The Cure from 1979-80) and Gary Biddles, but the name of their band was soon changed to Fools Dance; while Smith would also get busy reforming The Cure with Andy Anderson on drums and Phil Thornalley (who co-produced the _Pornography_ album) on bass, as well as again finding himself in the company of Siouxsie & the Banshees as a replacement for John McGeoch (Smith previously played with The Banshees in the summer of 1979 as a fill-in for John McKay); Smith's reunion with The Banshees produced a live album and video, _Nocturne_ ; the studio album _Hyaena_ ; and also a side project with Banshees bassist Steve Severin, The Glove, which released one album, _Blue Sunshine._
@@Jevole-Paramoteur i remember reading that the reason for Simons more eccentric behaviour playing bass during the Pornography era was because of him being increasingly jealous of Robert getting all the attention (and the the record labels more attention on Robert than any other member) this one probably one of the reason he ended up leaving along with other things
Erika, I completely agree with you. Robert and co made so many good things but I keep this song in a different place, its quite awe inspiring and if you check the lyrics it makes you think of current events today
The rythm of this song is made by the drum machine, later live versions of this song didn't have the same atmosphere and the force to make you dance to this nihilistic piece of art...
The rythm which Boris Williams creates on that version is no more slower than this was , I'd say it's a higher tempo version overall and the outro guitar solo is top! U can't demand more from a live performance, calling it trash is unfair
@@david_post_punkThose aren't the same. The trio of Robert, Simon, and Lol has something uniquely dark to it. When you add Boris and Porl there's just something different.
You're so right! This song, play for today, a letter to elise, charlotte sometimes. They were perfectly recorded and performed. Its the only live record of any band that I listen to. And its got to be one of the best live records of any band.
by Mr Smith's haircut it looks like just before "The Top" which is just as an underated album as I think as ..."Shake Dog Shake" or "Bananafishbones" are superb from "The Top" ...or is the video of "Cure in Orange" around about 85/86. "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" album time - Like Cocatoos - used to make me cry!!!!!
Hundred years of blood Crimson the ribbon Tightens around my throat And they open my mouth And my head bursts open Sounds like a tiger Thrashing in the water, thrashing in the water Over and over we died one after the other Over and over we died one after the other One after the other, one after the other One after the other, one after the other Feels like a hundred years A hundred years A hundred years A hundred years A hundred years...
Tolhurst came out to play keys.... There was NO DRUMMER... This is what the Cure is... They can do anything... They make it seem so easy without a drummer...
They actually had a lot of fights backstage then, although I saw them playing soccer before the gig I saw them on. Absolutely the best time of the cure and their most intense, shit, gone.
The way the live version was meant to be heard, with the Pornography lineup. Though I do love that Orange 1986 version, such arena pulse to it. Saw One Hundred Years live in 2023 and it was probably the darkest version I've ever heard of it
