@@broidk8291 It's a very similar chord progression and song feel, but it actually wouldn't be considered a rip off musically or legally (they'd have to argue it in court), but most likely this would be technically considered an interpolation. They are in the same key, similar chord progressions, but One Life contains more chords, thus more movements in the piece, and would probably be considered more complex musically. There's an extra Cm7, Dm, C7, A7, and G# chord in One Life, though they share a few of the same basic chords, C, F, G, Em, etc. You get what I'm saying lol. Interpolation in music is essentially this, you're outright inspired by a piece of music, but you want to make it your own - so you could either change the key (they didn't here, but C is also the most common and foundation of modern music theory), add some new chords to add different colors, or you could change the tempo to give it a new feel - which the Pillows did, they took it from 81 to 91 BPM. Interpolation in music is very common, we're all listening to a lot of the same music these days, and we love to mimic patterns we like when we're inspired. I don't at all feel it's morally objectionable unless it's not transformative. If the interpolation isn't transformative, if it doesn't build upon the original and make it something new, then it's much less defensible, and it goes from interpolation to stealing copyright (whether intentional or unintentional by law). That being said, when interpolation is discovered in court, it usually means the new artist will pay some percentage of royalties to the original artist - because although it isn't stealing, it is creating something that wouldn't have been created without the original piece. It is a respected practice, though. Sorry for the long music nerd comment, just sharing for the sake of it. Also, I have to say, One Life is light years better than the Oasis track, so much more moving emotionally. I've also never been a fan of Oasis, though, their stuff has always kinda bored me compared to other acts of their time, Nirvana, Green Day, RHCP, etc. The apathy I get from Oasis is not nearly as charming as what I get out of The Pillows. The Pillows don't give me this, "I'm too cool for this", vibe, instead, I get a, "The world around us is apathetic, and maybe we're not cool for still caring, but we still care" kinda vibe if that makes any sense at all lol.
Your right there, having there songs in a anime is how they build there audience world wide. One of the other reason I love anime is the Japanese band songs being played
This song will always remind me of my youth. So many friends and family members lost since then. It's hard to remember that I was once an innocent young kid, with so many dreams.
And hey you can still keep going! As long as youre alive you can do whatever you can to make your life one you think beautiful to live man, i believe in you!
English lyrics: If the blue poppy's petals Are swaying without any wind It's all thanks to my sigh. I don't know for sure, but it's gotta be. Wrapped up in the darkness of every day, Chained by my freedom The dreams we had together were so bright, I could no longer look myself in the face directly. There's only one thing I can see in my filthy mirror A light that's no illusion... You are my light. Taking off my twisted armor, I'm a snail who's started on a journey Getting struck by the rain wears me out, But I'm not turning back. Once again, I've been spit out from a town-colored mirage I'd like to just laugh it off and make the excuse That it's all because my toes are too big, And they got in the way No matter what kind of shoes I wear, If I walk, I leave footprints And until one day they stop, they're the proof that I'll finish... ...One life There's only one thing I can see in my filthy mirror A light that's no illusion... You are my light. Some day, all those memories we can't touch, We'll lose them But even if you leave no shape behind... You are my light. If the blue poppy's petals Are swaying without any wind It's all thanks to my sigh. I don't know for sure, but it's gotta be.
@@mobilesuitjesse The first line, "if the blue poppy's petals are swaying without any wind, it's all thanks to my sigh." sounds like a tired and frustrated person. Like, his frustration is so much that when he sighs, it's like the wind. That particular line has always stood out to me. Anyway, I think the whole meaning behind the song is about him being in love with someone who is so pure- not fake. Through-out the songs, it appears that he relies on her existence to continue his journey to somewhere.
I wish my local record store sold some pillow LPs they have such a sound that in capsulates modern growth urban sadness and painful truths I'm thankful for the show for putting me on to the pillows. Forever.
why you are crying?.. i dont aske because i think that it would be a stupid thing to do.. but because i cry as well.. fun thing is .. i dont know even why i cry.. all the times i listen to this song.. its really weird.. like i have lost something i never ever possessed.. what the fuck is wrong with me ..
I feel u I also usually cry with this song and several more of the pillows I have no idea why, but I always cry with this and with hybrid rainbow somehow make me very emotional even though I don’t understand even half of what they sing xd
Cuando te das cuenta que ha ella él nunca le importó realmente. Y ese final tan, seguimos viviendo como siempre, porque en este lugar todo es ordinario
Same here. I think The Pillows, FLCL, and the early Final Fantasy games and the music from Nobuo Uematsu were my main reasons for wanting to learn about Japan. How is FLCL so good / so much better than some other anime and only six episodes?!

It is a similar chord progression, and the very end of the solo is similar to the build up right before “so sally can wait”. I wouldn’t call it a rip off, more of an homage. They are both great songs. Some oasis songs sound similar to their influences. This could be intentional or accidental. Music and humans are wonderful and interesting.
@@henrylanger5892I love this song, but everytime I hear it I can't help but think of don't look back in anger. That said, the pillows have a lot more variety in their belt than Oasis.
I always liked The Pillows guitar because it reminded me of shoegaze, funnily enough one of the most revered shoegaze bands ever "My Bloody Valentine" were signed to the same record label as "Oasis" i'm starting to see some patterns.
I don't know if you saw FLCL, an anime in which this song takes part, the funny thing is that 9 years after your comment they release another season of that anime called Shoegaze.
Can i honestly say that FLCL came to the states at a right time for us? Most of us were going through puberty and this anime had a very distinct style that made us feel...unique :D
I've never heard anything so triumphant, yet melancholy, and knowing the lyrics makes it even more so. I'd say it perfectly captures how living feels, cheesy as that may sound.

Even though you're gone now, just know that we're still with you. Long live at0msk, the pirate king! Please help me pass this on through the pillows and FLCL community!!
sharinganchidori100 Just to let people know, he's not dead... at least I hope he's not :( His account was banned recently for copyright. His channel had over 200 songs from the pillows.
KawiiPenguin i knowww!!!!! i hope the pillows make a return with the new seasons. they just released a new album too. i'm setting my expectations low enough so that hopefully i'm not too disappointed if it becomes some cash-cow disaster.
Im going to listen to this song while i smoke my last cigarette im 24 years old We only have one life, so i wanna live long enough to see everyone grow we all have been through so much I love.. You all...

The bridge episode brought me here. I don't know, I just loved that moment. So iconic. The place. The people. The scene. And this song. 💖 Adding this on my playlist. Much love from the Philippines 🇵🇭💖
Saw them live at Anime Central some years ago. This song had been the alarm on my alarm clock for some time then, and it was what I woke up to every time. I hold it very close to my heart. When they played the opening chords... I cried.
ive listen to this song on our way to our marching band semi final, not know it will be the end or not, either way it dose´nt devalue all the memories we had practicing and all the mischief we got into, this song will forever be linked to me that way.
I used to be absolutely obsessed with The Pillows during my high school years. And FLCL. Probably listened to all their albums and watched FLCL like over 10 times at least. I imported the Stroll and Roll album in 2016 and since then haven't kept up with the band as much as I used to. But some of their songs have a lot of meaning if you look up the lyrics--especially this song in particular. Their lyrics can be very existential but also playful at times. Sometimes, especially during the early 90s, they could be mellow to the point of being unrecognizable as being the Pillows, like is this really them? I need to get back into listening to the Pillows more often again. They are excellent but I have to say thank god FLCL introduced me to them or I would have never heard about them. I would put the Pillows on par with just about any american alt rock band out there.
Sato looks young as hell in these old videos and so very very old now. I'd say that it seems like Sawao lost his "babyface" around the "Penalty Life" era. Manabe ages fairly consistently.

well actually so was i but stuff like getting the pillows back for the st seems like maybe itll be good ! attention to detail like that usually is a part of good sequels yknow
@@broidk8291 Not gatekeep, but FLCL did ruin a generation of otakus that believed they were mature, edgy, and all that shit for having watched it, and we don't need that again. If anything, the songs would stick for a while, and be completely forgotten after some months, trends nowadays don't last.
@@alexeigoldschmith People will always have some random reason to think that they're edgy tho, be it Evangelion, FLCL, SNK or even frickin Sonic the Hedgehog, if anything the best part is that when those 13 years old kids watch something like this they'll treasure and once they're all grown-up they'll keep dearly remembering things like those, even if they aren't the best, are overrated or plainly bad on some cases, at least these works will keep going on forever as they'll be an important for us over the years. The best thing would be for something viral so some random kid might as well find what could be their favorite band until the last of their days.
Are you aware of when this video was made? Because Fooly Cooly was aired in 2000 and this song was made 1997 meaning that this song very well could have influenced the intro to Fooly Cooly. This is also the first song to play while they are under the bridge, I could be completely wrong but it makes sense to see it both ways, get me?
ONE LIFE & THANK YOU, MY TWILIGHT. Watched FLCL OVA back when I was younger. Rewatched it along with Progressive and Alternative. I feel sad now that it ended. Every protagonist of the anime just live an ordinary life just like you and me, expecting nothing special to happen in their lives, meanwhile wishing things would stay the same and not change over time. To someone like me it's relatable. I hope I overflow someday and something amazing happens. P. S. This song is low key similar to Oasis - Don't look back in Anger
The soul reaches a toe curling bliss as I listen to the tunes and rivets of this song. Only for a moment reaching a peace of heart and mind in the long span of my day to day life once in a while
dont speak japanese but now as an adult readig the lyrics of different pillows songs i find myself struck by how the emotion i got from them is pretty much in line with the lyrics of the music. Just shows that words are just the medium. human emotion is the same everywhere. you dont need the words to know what they're saying.
The translation of the lyrics in english; got them out of a website, I'd like to believe they are an accurate translation but I have no actual way of knowing, putting them up anyways as the lyrics still seem rather...well, awesome: If the blue poppy's petals Are swaying without any wind It's all thanks to my sigh.
