For years I loved Phil Carey as Asa Buchanan. He was the man. He reminded me of JR from Dallas. He was the man everybody loved to hate. It was sad that his character passed away.

Well no, Clint Ritchie died around the same time as Phil Carey and he had retired from acting back in 2004, so OLTL had recast him with Jerry verDorn in I think 2005.

This is when i knew oltl was on its way out. You let one of the shows most popular people get reduced from contract renewal to reoccurring. Then I noticed after the OLTL 40th they stopped using Dorian and Viki in major storylines. Sure we had scenarios but Dorians last real storyline was adopting Langston and the cramer take over of BE which was delicious to watch. But what was Dorians or Vikis follow ups? Echo? You call that a storyline?

Definitely!Although the original Clint had died before this happened though and obviously couldn't be there.

Asa was one of my characters as a little kid. I had a crush on him now at age 24 i still look at this and cry a little.

My reply is to days of our lives why can you not let kristen and Brady be together. I am sick to death of chloe lane and I hate Theresa. Okay kristen is no saint but neither is chloe Brady ended up doing drugs while married to her. Chloe kept holly from nicole chloe cheated on Lucas with Daniel. Then chloe slept with phillip. What's so great about Eric and nicole John and marlena. I do not understand why Brady picks the worst women then complains when he gets hurt. Brady has bad taste in women I look these women and i do not get what so attractive about them. Bad girls rule on days of our lives. Kate and Brady another bad idea. What I hate most in a man is one I can not count on one who sleeps with anyone. Brady is handsome but he is hell on wheels with women I get these women hurt him I felt bad about that but he is a heartbreak waiting to happen when I see his dark side I cringe his temper wow. I heard him tell nicole he hoped she enjoyed the sex that it would never happen again and called her whore I thought no wander shes with Eric he is gentler. Eric is not perfect but he is charming. Brady is goodlooking but he knows it.e Confidence is good but if guy ever talked to me like that I would not be with him ej. Was cruel.xandet also insulted nicole I think Brady Xander and ej. Were wrong to be so mean to nicole. Brady sleeps around but he is so judgemental of Eric and nicole. If a man sleeps around it is okay but if a woman does it she is a slut. I understand Brady being upset with Eric and nicole but when he put them down for fornicating how many women has he fornicate with it seemed hypocritical. In real life women with any class do not want this

@landrykkb Yeah OLTL wanted Phil to go on recurring and when he refused they killed him off. That's why Asa was able to return as a ghost several times, last appearing a few weeks before Phil died.

Well it does take time to give a proper send off and arrange to have stars return.

@biracialgoddess still they could have got together with Phil Carey and given the character a more deserving send off before he got too sick to work. Asa was such a strong and iconic character in the show I think dying in bed does not sum up the chutzpah of the character although some might argue the exit they gave him was more true to real life since what ever life you lead death can take you at any time even in the most mundane fashion if it so choses

If I recall correctly, Phil Carey was sick and they took him off the screen. They killed his character off. Then he filmed his "Will" scenes but he died later. That's what I remember. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I believe Phil Carey(Asa)only died last year.

actually asa in real life hadn't died yet and he would appear in a viki trip to heaven and in several videos later on. carey wouldn't die for another year and a half

When macDonald Carey died on Days Of our lives,they didn't write Tom Horton's death into the story until 3 months later.

@TheDaddysgirl198745 yes he did pass away in real life in 2009 complications of lung cancer, but now we have LIAM ASA AND RYDER ASA! and CLINT (acting like asa)!
