In July 2017 the state-owned Irish broadcaster, RTE, wrongly described the journalist and author Kevin Myers as a 'Holocaust denier'. BREAKING NEWS: RTE pays anti-establishment Irish businessman Declan Ganley personal damages (estimated to be between €1 million and €1.5 million PLUS his huge legal costs) in settlement of their Prime Time Investigates slander broadcast 12 years ago. It took Ganley all these years to get an apology. Once again the TAX PAYER pays the bill - no one in RTE News and Current Affairs pays a cent (or penny). He would, especially since they get poor people sent to jail for not paying the yearly RTE TV license tax - whether they watch RTE or not.

Because RTE dominates the advertising market and receives lavish funding via the license fee it is unaccountable to the public or shareholders. In addition, Irish politicians are too afraid to rein it in. As a result, over time a liberal left bubble has developed. Lacking normal outside pressures, recruitment has become more and more narrow, with people hiring others of like mind. As with the BBC, the Guardian and the increasingly ridiculous Irish Times, group think rules the roost in RTE. Discussion panels, make up of audiences, interviewer's demeanour and lines of questioning, voxpop selection, choice of leading news stories, presentation of 'issues' and background, choice of 'experts' etc - all fail to reflect the complex reality of the modern world and instead act as an echo chamber for the PC elite and the liberal left.

The acclaimed author Douglas Murray has Tweeted his support for Kevin Myers mobile.twitter.com/DouglasKMurray/status/1200847148742520833 NOTE ADDED ON 8 December 2019: Very good interview with Kevin Myers by Niamh Horan on page 9 of today's Sunday Independent under the headline ' "I haven't had a full night's sleep in the last two years' - Kevin Myers ' (sorry can't give the link as there is a paywall). On page 25 of the same paper, the former RTE producer Eoghan Harris writes that Kevin Myers was "lynched' by RTE and was aided and abetted by Kevin Myers' former colleagues, with the honourable exception of Patsy McGarry, at The Irish Times. As of today The Irish Times, the self-styled 'Paper of Record', has still not reported the RTE apology and its settlement, with costs, of Kevin Myers' defamation case.
