I been using the Beyerdynamic DT 700 PRO X for a month now. These closed backed studio reference headphones have become my go to. I’ve mixed and mastered with them and thought it was high time I reviewed them again after my first month of use. I’ll give you my full thoughts; build quality, portability, sound & drawbacks.

Your review is spot on, David. I bought the DT 700 Pro X a few weeks ago, and they're fantastic - best I've ever owned. The detail is so rich across the range without being too much. It took a little while to get used to the heft since my old headphones are half the weight, but I adapted within a few sessions, and now they just feel normal. I still notice the weight difference when I switch back and forth from my lighter pair, but that has ceased to be a big deal because the benefits are so worth it. I mainly got them for editing audio courses, but even for watching RU-vid videos, they've become my go-to pair. They add an extra layer of appreciation for good audio, including enjoying the full richness of people's voices. They also highlight the flaws in low-quality audio, but the elevation of the positives is just so nice. The soundstage is really impressive. Sometimes I sense that some sounds are coming from elsewhere in the room or from other parts of the house, only to realize they were part of what I was listening to. Thanks for sharing this review since it reminded me of why I like these so much. :)

I think you should write my reviews Steve! Aren't they great!!! I've been working on the next video going up tomorrow where I am A/B'ing these against my trusty old 770's, and the weight was the first thing I noticed too. The 700's are a lump, but so worth it for the fit and presence they deliver.

Hey David, loved your review! I did like to know how the headband is holding up. I heard a lot of people complaining that the pleather pops out after a few months of usage.

@@soulscientific2685 are you sure, I have both the 770 and 700s and they are both good in their own way. All in all I prefer the 700 slightly because it‘s more flat, but I like more flat headphones.

Good review. I went for 900 Pro X as I’m mainly recording choirs and orchestras so the bigger soundstage is an advantage. My only issue is the mini xlr got stuck in after one use. Whilst the dealer managed to get it out I’m still waiting three months later for a replacement cable from Beyer. Not very good service then…..

Would you recommend an amp with these? I picked up an amp but haven’t received it or the headphones yet. I’m new to this level audio equipment and from what I know an amp will make a difference right?

hi Benjamin - great to hear from you. A headphone amp will future proof you for sure, but with these 700's having such a low impedance of only 48ohms, you won't need one. Even on a mobile phone these headphones have plenty of headroom. The new Stellar 45 Drivers in them are simply amazing. I have a new video I am working on now, that will be out tomorrow comparing them to the 770's. Hope that helps and good luck with the new headphones/amp too

I picked up the DT770s recently, but reluctantly had to return them because my ears just did not enjoy the upper frequency range and it overpowered the low end. I'm hoping that, based on your reviews, the DT 700 has tamed the high end and really lets the signature Beyer low end shine through. Seems like it might be just the balance I desire.

hi Nathan - it's super hard to describe sound, but I do my best. I find the 700's more 'U' shaped in sound if that makes sense and a little less bright. There is certainly a difference between the two sets...

@@DavidLewisTech Your assessment was spot on! I do find them to be a bit "U" shaped, but pleasantly so. I'd say they have more low mid (100-200hz) bass than sub bass. They clamp quite a lot! Overall a very nice listening experience.

I was so excited to get these headphones last week and my first pair by Beyerdynamic! While they sound great, I just can't get past the irritating clamping force. I really want to keep them but I have to return them because they become uncomfortable after a short time wearing them. Too bad!!!

They get better after a while. If you want to speed it up leave them overnight stretched over some books a few times

I recently bought these and I am quite disappointed with them. The sound Quality is mediocre at best, not suitable for serious listening. The clamping force of the ear pads is uncomfortable and my head is normal size. They are already stacked away and will be sold soon. They are way too expensive for what they are.
