A blast from the past! In addition to young Heath Ledger, there's a fresh-faced Alan Tudyk (Firefly) , Paul Bettany (MCU), and Mark Addy (King Robert Baratheon from Game of Thrones) all before they became well-known actors. Good times!

Ironically... this is EXACTLY the kind of gem one would love to come across some late night and not know anything about... and slowly a grin appears on yer face and just stays there the whole way through ;) And don't forget the post credit scene, it's a gas! (sorry)

Years ago, when this first came out in theaters my mum and dad went to watch it whilst my brother and I watched a different movie. They had insisted that i should have watched it with them. When it came out on video later I agreed that i should have.

Chaucer wrote "The Canterbury Tales". The copy I had, had old English on one side, and the page next to it had the modern English translation (odd pages were written one way, and the even pages written the other).

Back in my highschool days ( way back, when rocks were soft lol '83 ) Our English teacher made us memorize and quote the prolog to Chauncer's Canterbury Tales, in Old English. I still remember some of it, I think it started " Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote The droghte of March hath perced to the roote, And bathed every veyne in swich licour Of which vertu engendred is the flour; Whan Zephirus eek with his sweete breeth Inspired hath in every holt and heeth The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne Hath in the Ram his half cours yronne" Kids these days would have freaked lol

Keep in mind that in those time Jocelyn would become basically William's property if they were to marry. Women had limited rights and options. So it makes sense that she would really want to test the guy, to make sure he loves her and that she would be safe with him.
@MonAhgasInsomniAroELF
@MonAhgasInsomniAroELF Год назад
plus before that point william had been putting jousting before her. he got to a point where he basically called her useless and only cared about winning and trying to defeat adhemar. so to her it probably seemed as if maybe he only cared about her as a fun plaything, like most men at the time might have, not an equal. so while yes, a little unfair of her to ask him to lose (not like she knew that was the group's only source of income), it was really the only way she could be sure he _actually_ loved her, at least enough to put her first before his sport. it was an unkind method, but somewhat necessary as the tournaments were his top priority, so asking him to "prove" his love another way wouldn't have produced results as reliable as asking him to lose the tournament would.

this movie always makes me cry, even through your reaction. I remember back when Heath Ledger first died I couldn't watch watch this movie again for the longest time because I was so sad. this has always been one of my favorite movies and probably one of my favorite performances by Heath (Brokeback Mountain is probably number 1). so glad you enjoyed it! ❤️

The History Channel produced a 10 episode reality TV show in 2012 called "Full Metal Jousting" where 16 experienced horseman competed for a $100K prize in an authentic tournament with real armor and lances. It was pretty brutal with several injuries so it only lasted one season.

I caught this movie just like that: randomly going through channels in my TV, years ago, until I stumbled upon this gem. I was caught instantly, and at the end was one of the best movies I have ever seen, still extremely dear to me.

When Chaucer is giving the speech about walking in Will's turbulence after the sword fight and there's an awkward silence, that awkward silence is real. The extras didn't understand the language and didn't know what to do. So when Mark Addy cheered, they just followed the cheer.

Such a fun movie, thanks for reminding me of it. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it. The entire cast was SOOOO good in this. Of course everyone loved Heath (RIP) but my favorite character will always be Paul Bettany's Geoffrey Chaucer. I have to admit though I had a tear when Will Thatcher met up with his dad again.

I LOVE THIS FILM!! It has a rare quality: It is both a "CHICK FLICK" and a "GUY FLICK", at the same time. Plenty of medieval action, jousting and a sword fight. And it's very romantic, and no matter how many times I see this film, I have to admit, when William's blind father asks "Has he followed his feet? Has he found his way home? Oh-my-boy!", I'm reaching for a tissue.

Since you mentioned coming to enjoy love stories ... . Have you tried the love movie "Moonstruck" with Cher and Nicholas Cage? It's wonderful. Also "It's a Wonderful Life," the story of the lifelong love for a woman, a place, its people ... and of living. Other love stories I'd recommend to you AD2 are: "Ghost," "Love, Actually," "My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding," "The Princess Bride," "Sleepless in Seattle," "You've Got Mail," "An Affair to Remember," "The Best Years of Our Lives," "The Bishop's Wife," "The Family Stone," "The Music Man" (a musical)," and "Meet John Doe." I imagine you've seen several of those, maybe even done some reactions. I'll look for more reaction vids from you on RU-vid.

People actually suggest to research movies first? Wtf is that crap about? Why not tell them to watch spoilers? That is the dumbest thing I've heard yet. Learning lore after the fact is what makes fans.
