I’ve always owned modified/repurposed school backpacks for the outdoors. For my 20th birthday my uncle got me one of these, and I’m pretty overwhelmed. It’s more capable and feature-rich than anything I’ve owned, and I love it. Thanks for this review and the other video you did explaining its features. Really helped me get a grip on what the features of this pack are.

thanks for the review! just bought one before watching this, and it's my first pack ever. I didn't notice the side entry for the water bottles so I am happy about that. Honestly I went with the fit without looking over the bells and whistles, so I am appreciative of this video.

Glad to see your review on this. I bought the 65l after watching your first preview and absolutely love it! By far my favorite pack. the hip pockets have a bit of room in them as they go deeper around the sides of the belt, the problem i had was getting stuff past the zipper opening. I was also pleasantly surprised to see the charcoal grey color was actually a green rather than grey :) Another great review! Thank you Luke.

I totally agree with every point Luke makes on this pack. I bought mine in the summer last year and put it through some pretty rough hikes and it performed awesome. It does crunch a bit but it's bearable. One thing to note is that the pack dimensions of the 50 and 65 are almost identical and some of that additional space is 2 side pockets on either side of the web pouch (where Luke would have liked internal access zippers). They are quite large and I can easily fit all of my cooking gear in one side with room to spare and my tarp and rain gear in the other. Also, mine came with a rain cover. Keep up the good work Luke.

Great review; I actually picked up the 65 AG a month ago. I have yet to take it out on a hike/camping trip, but I did a test run and absolutely love it.

I used it through a mild snow storm, didnt have an issue with my back getting wet. Have to agree this pack is awesome. Two things i wished for as upgrades is larger hip pockets as well and some straps on the bottom like the 65 version has for your sleeping pad!

Good vid. Thanks. Osprey is a great company. I have had the osprey Kestrel 48 for about 3-4 years and the Talon 22 for about 1 year. Lost of miles on the Kestrel. Not so much on the Talon yet. Love both of them. They both have the Airscape suspension system. Keeps me dry. That's says a lot when most of my time is spent south Louisiana. Thanks again.

Great review! I thought this was an almost-epic pack as well, but most of my travels are in the winter and I had to return this when I couldn't get my Lamina -15 bag to fit in it. So close. I'm pretty convinced at this point that the best winter weekend packs (50L-ish) are mountaineering gear packs.

I was looking at buying that pack a few months back, looks like i'll have to grab that one now. I just bought though a Fjallraven Friluft 55 and so far i love it. I haven't done any Real testing but if you ever get the change to try one out i recommend it, least at the moment.

Thanks for the review Luke! You had some pretty valid development ideas. What's your take on packability considering you're going out on a multiple day hike and have to pack everything from your personal gear to the base camp items and food? Does the AG suspension system eat some space from inside of the pack?

Hey thanks for a great review, I just got mine a week ago, and it came whit a rain-cover... AND mine dos not say a squik or any otter sounds, so maybe you just been a little out of luck with your pack.. But beside that... It´s a great backpack that I will be wearing on the Camino, even if it is considered as being to big..

Excellent review. Seemed authentic and unbiased. I'm considering this pack but have researched and have a close second choice in the Jansport Katahdin 50..for about almost half the price. No hip pockets on the JK but sounds like the Osprey's aren't much use. Have you looked at this pack and do you have any thoughts on this

Would you be able to review the EXOS 48? Really interested in that pack but im not sure if it lacks the support I need for my back. My back tends to go out of wack after longer hikes.

Yes it has one. I have got the 50 today, but in the shop they only had the 65 and it has the rain cover as well.

I have the new 2022 Atmos and it looks like they updated everything you didn't like, still makes the crunching sound. Came with rain cover, it came in at 4.7lbs.

i can't decide between Kajka 65 and the Atmos 65… i go to south america for almost 6 month, and will travel around also do some Hikings (4-5 Days) Which one would you recommend?

Great review man! I backpack abroad for 4 months out of the year, every year and have been a long time Kelty fan. I am seriously considering this pack for my next adventure through South America. I have read many negative reviews about this packs durability. What would you say about the durability?

love your reviews and thanks for the trouser review you are wearing I asked for. is it possible for a review on the 65L bag as there seems to be some differences between them. maybe it's a UK version thing but for example the 65 comes with a rain cover as a starter. hope you can as the 65 is my next investment I think as my berg rucksack has fallen apart after little use and here in UK the atmos ag 65L goes for the £170- £190 mark so want to make sure before investing. thanks again n keep up the great work

I'm now the happy owner of a Deuter Futura Vario 50+10 and an Osprey Atmos AG 50. Few things the deuter has extra: - outside zippers to reach the contents. - the variflex system that allows the hip belt to move with the hips. I think this takes out those sounds. The new Atmos AG 50 (with a white logo instead of the black circle) seems to have larger hip belt pockets, much larger than the futura and your model. The exterior large stretch pocket is very handy. The Futura has one, but it's zipped. Both are extremely comfortable and adjustable.

I rough estimation, about 7-8cm longer zippers on the hip belt pockets.

The 65 AG version has two extra zippers on the back to get to gear more easily,. slightly larger pack, but it help keep organised better. The belt pockets are someone big on the 65, but they could be bigger, agree.? . Great review thank you

Thank boss. One suggestion with winter or snow storm I would suggest a poncho to stop snow getting in the back of the pack.

I've had the Kestrel 48 for about 3-4 years now. I love it. Very similar to the Atmos. A few ounces lighter but not enough to make a big difference. It has the Airscape suspension system. Keeps you very dry without the snow problem. I also have an Osprey talon 22 with the airscape system for my day pack. Love them both. You can't go wrong with any of them. Osprey is a great company.

Would you recommend an osprey product over something like Teton? Weight is not really a factor and I'd spend the extra money if there is a crazy difference. I'm looking for a 65L backpack if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks

Thanks for the review! I have about 100 miles in my AG50 that I impulse bought this summer and had some buyer's remorse after looking at the weight of the pack... that said, I'm very happy with it! I'm going to get a nice cuben fiber pouch for the shoulder strap to add some more "handy" storage to make up for the lack of stretchy pockets on the shoulders and tiny hip belt pockets.

In Norway this backsack has a raincover included. I bought mine in May 2019 so i have not yet tested it while Back country skiing in the mountains.

I bought this pack mainly for the trampoline back and the graphite color, if you have ever used an external frame in the summer and compare it to an internal in the heat you will understand that a severely sweaty back is annoying and externals allow for more ventilation . This pack is as close to an external that you can get without actually using one.

I just received mine and it has the creaking as mentioned. Does it ever go away? I ask because I spend a lot of time watching wildlife. It feels great but I am fearful of the noise.

I wonder if the waist belt pockets were attached with some sort of shock cord or stretching strap (similar to chest straps that stretch) to the hip belt rather than being a physical part of the hip belt would make the pockets more usable / less likely to stretch and become super tight / lower capacity...

Is there any significant difference between the trampoline suspension system (yes, I learned that phrase from this video) of the Atmos and for example the Exos? Except the back mesh of the Exos being several pieces sewn together, I don't see any obvious differences, but it's not called Anti Gravity on the Exos. Am I missing something?

I have an Exos 48 and an Atmos 65. The suspension is different. The Atmos AG is way more comfortable and i still like my Exos.

I have every AG pack osprey make. 20L to 108L. Got this, got a 65. AG hauls. Wear 20L Manta AG mountain biking all day, full off water, 5L, food, layers, bike spares, pers kit, don't even know its on my back. Gone over the bars heaps. Roll over my pack. Good as. Manta AG 20, sometimes my 36L depending. Got aether 88 aswell. You get a rain cover with some packs, not all. Yeah, annoying but not a big issue. Longest/heaviest trek to date 40kg/35km in a day. Plenty of ups/downs(aether AG 88+20) first 20km gtg. Last 10 or so started to weigh down. Was by far the comfiest that night(winter, near 0)though. 3 person vango with verandah, 2 camp chairs, all the bells & whistles,heaps water/food, cooking kit etc. Feet were rooted but back still strong. Solid packs. 50L is for urban ops, day hikes. Anything longer, get a 65L or look at the Aether AG packs. Mrs runs my 65, I run Aether 88+20.

Great review, but I would like it to have the sleeping pad straps like the 65L has. I love my 38L Kestrel, perfect for day hiking and overnight. I haven't gone mulit day with it but I'm sure if your experienced with ultra light packing it suite I.

The squeegee sound is coming from the medal frame. It's rubbing off the material that is surrounding it. Nice review!!

I bought my wife the 65L womens version (medium size) of this pack for her first pack. She is out of shape (round is a shape though) and has never hiked or camped. She carried 30lbs on our three day wilderness hike and absolutely loved it. It was worth every penny for her to be happy and for me to not hear one complaint about it. I also have this great pack! One thing i miss a little bit...straps like those on the Atmos 65 to hold the sleepingpad in front of the sleepingbagdepartment. I take some extra straps...so i kan fi take my ZLite on this position :-)

Actually Osprey seem to be aware of the hip pocket issue. I ordered two packs (different colours) and one pack had the short zippers which make the pockets difficult to access but the other pack had longer, curved zippers. That works much better. But I still miss the security pocket under the lid and the large pockets on the front of the predecessor... A daisy chain or some straps would have been nice too. By the way; we do get a rain cover with the pack in Europe!

Just watched your video. Yes, it's five years old. However, I can say, I got my Atmos 50 AG from REI. Guess what, they still offer a rain cover at no extra charge. In fact I got mine in the garage section. And only paid $125.00 Only used once on a short overnight trip. Customer returned it. Said he wanted a bigger pack. I post a video of my new Atmos 50 AG on my alternative channel. Want to see it. Look up Ukpik Tonraq. Enjoyed your video sir. Just an FYI, I took the cheap tiny pockets off of the belt. Got with Zpacks and ordered pockets. Those are huge pockets. They actually can hold a nice sized pistol and clip.

i'm not sure why you gave the waistbelt pockets a negative review. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and I was able to fit it into a waistbelt pocket along with a few Cliff bars just fine.

5 year old video, I know... I like the side pockets in the belt. I usually keep my lighter, fire striker and my light woolen gloves or my small headlamp (in the winter, it often holds my balaclava mask) in them. My phone usually is in the backpack, since I don't have to take it out every few minutes while I'm on a hike.

Is this too big for a day hike? Say a 6-8 hour hike? I want to get a pack that can be used for over nights (1-2 nights) and day hiking. I am fixing to join a hiking club and didn't want to show up for a day hike with a huge backpack looking like a noob. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Navid Shahrzad It depend totally on your equipment. It's impossible to say how much space is needed unless we know exactly what all your equipment consist of and what you plan to eat. A single item like the difference between a down or synthetic sleeping bag make a huge difference in the volume of the equipment. I have used an Exos 34 with an entire week of food and still room to spare, while I have friends with still light burdens that has trouble to fit a weekend worth of stuff in a 50L pack. If you are in doubt, choose the 65L, the weight different is negliable and it is easier to pack if you don't need to fill outer pockets, lid and all available space to its limit. For a majority the 50L will be enough for 3-4 days of supply as long as the equipment is fairly light, in about the 20 pound range or less without food and water and the stuff you carry is fairly normal in bulk. Hope this help! 😀

Hello, I am looking to buy a really good backpack that will last me for at least one decade. I found one that seems really good and the reviews were all positive but it is from China and the price is really low. Do you think it would be better for me to buy a North Face 150$ backpack or the price just goes to the mark and the quality is not really different, ( In others words does price=quallity?) thanks a lot for your time!!!
