Cannondale offers quite good geometry for us taller riders and the Thomson seatposts are really“masterpieces“ You can build great bikes from used stuff for small money that you can trust! Love it 🤙
Wow, hush your mouth! I have a CAAD 10 in red, 105 group set. And as a recreational rider it all boils down to when you hit dips in the road. For the Cannondale I just raise my butt off the seat and absorb the bumps. Whereas with a carbon bike the bike absorbs the bumps
@@terbennett nice, I read this and asked while I was looking for a caad10. I'm a couple inches shorter than you and ended up getting a 56. I've actually never ridden any other road bike, but I'm very happy with it.
I can fully recommend a CAAD Optimo as a winter bike - same exact frame as CAAD10 with slightly heavier aluminium but with a threaded bottom bracket!! Mine came with 105 R7000 apart from shit callipers that I’ve moved up to 105.
I love my CAAD Optimo as well, not the lightest but it super durable and also really comfortable. I've been meaning to upgrade but it checks all the boxes.
It is crazy how much better bikes were from 2010 to 2017 compared to now. PT has your left cleat slipped? Your left heal has a bigger Q factor than your right. Ive found that outward facing heel angle is a mad trigger for ITB issues.
And the prices! I regret selling my CAAD10 so here I am now watching vids about them but the price on a latest model CAAD is double what I paid for my 10! Completely bonkers!
Just bought a 2012 CAAD10 full Ultegra with the SL-K crank equipped with Aero bars for 620€ and a pair of Mavic Ksyrium Elite (1550g) for 70€, I'm so excited to build and ride it ! Amazing bike so far, absolutely love its nimbleness and responsiveness/road feel, can't wait to start climbing !
At 7,5 kg it’s the same as the brand new Specialized top model. The guy with the CAd10 won a lot local races in my area back in the days. It’s not a bad bike at all.
I love my caad10 new to road riding and bought it new oldstock last year. I’m not a big fan of carbon everything especially the pricetag that goes with it I opted for higher spec components vs a carbon frame. Caad gets the job done well it’s a super snappy frame can out sprint the 2021 Emonda I test rode!
I love this build! The versatility of the components you put together is amazing. One these days I'd like to build my own bike. Keep us informed...please.
Wish there was more CAAD10 talk online. It's peak bike in my opinion. You can get one of these older frames and build up an amazing bike that's better than or equal to the latest marketing gimmick.
I have a caad7. Rebuild. it is factory . 60cm. My fixed gear Bianchi pista is 60cm. I had an caad 5 sold it. I was a idiot. But not this time. Caad7 is staying
Cool build man. I've build a backup bike myself. It's a Concorde Mistral 340. With the DA 7800 parts I swapped from my race bike. I wish RU-vid had the option for posting pics in the comments so I could show you. We don't have winter here(Curaçao) But we have rainy days in October thru December. And that's when I'm gonna use it most. I've done some 312 km on it already. It was a 3x9, converted to a single 42 - 16 and now into a 2x10 52-39/11-28.
A truly great frame set i have one for years my number 1 bike to go to for all weathers eight in our club and no one will sell them says it all thanks for the video.
I'm not much of a rider, but the caad 10 is the only real road bike I've ever had. Love it. And like someone else here, I'm running 28mm tyres without any issues. Lots of rocky dirt roads around here.
I love my 2010 canondale synapse ditched bb30 for a hambini bb and Shimano hyperlink 5 bolt cranks my summer bike but I’ve gone back to 1992 steel giant peleton and my 1987 Raleigh competition I’m loving the comfort and tranquility. For years bikes have got stiffer faster and noisier, having found a quiet free hub on some old giant sr2s it has transformed my cycling enjoyment.
I have a 1st model year CAAD10 and I love it. Just refreshed the drive train tonight and put on a new tire set and pads and it feels better than ever. 12k plus miles on it.
I will keep my CAAD10 forever. An all time classic race geometry at a budget price. Bought my frame new for £350, had a new set of training wheels built up last winter. I run it on 28mm GP5000s and it is faster than my 'best' bike. It is a shame that Cannondale have never properly addressed their BB issues, I do find it needs more servicing than my other bikes.
@@geraldtone5914 Caad lineup is all about classic and timeless looks and feel. Great performance at a great price. Caad13 broke Caad's DNA and essence.
I'm in FLorida USA Ride a 2015 caad 10 58cm Been riding it since 2018 put on some Shimano 5800 group and HED 60 mm wheelset the thing is rad. Not perfect not the best bike but it get my riding job done every ride. Cheers that caad 10 is pretty rad dude! Keep good!
I did a build with a new 2016 caad 8 frame/fork last year and i cannot get enough of it lol. It's an excellent aluminum frame. I will do a video on it some time soon. 👍
Bought a "used" caad10 with loads of carbon goodies for $550 from a bike shop in California. Shipped it home for $175, worth every penny. Weighing in at 7.6kg right now. I had been riding a 2016 Carbon Roubaix, which is 2kg heavier!! Going to throw some flats on the roubaix as a more casual, fun, bikepacking rig and start training on the caad10 full time. Curious to see how it goes!!
You said it, man. Echoing many a desire there. Cannondale seriously dropped the ball in recent years on a number of design and aesthetic levels. But hey, makes finding an original CAAD10 all that more rewarding :)
@@PeakTorque I have a 13 disc. Uncool anaswer but I love it! I'm a former 12 owner and this bike is different but handles just as well and feels fast. Admittedly it doesn't look as cool...
I trashed two carbon bikes riding winters in the Peaks and Dales, with one failing catatrophically after 5 years as my daily driver. Switched to a Canyon Ultimate AL SLX, and after the fuss of getting all the 1 and 1/4 parts, its been completely bombproof and pretty comfy. Aluminum rim bikes havea place for anyone who doesn't have a service course or love taking their bike to the shop.
Love my 2012 CAAD10/3. Bought new, with only a few changes - HED Belgian au hoops, Durace crank & hubs with balance of G/set Ultegra. Still a great ride and even though my other bike is Custom Legend HT9.5, Campy 12pd Record, I still evenly split my choice of ride.
Nice winter bike! I use the same handlebars on mine, a rebuilt Allez Comp, can’t go wrong. I really like the Ultegra mini group. I use Di2 in the summer but for rain/winter I also use the Ultegra Mechs. I find I really like the feel, something about throwing the right shifter is just so satisfying. I use a M30 Praxis Zayante. Price was right! No issues, crisp shifting, never had a galling problem. But you definitely push more power. I also pull the crank twice a year, grease it up, no worries. Sad to hang it up for the summer, but maybe we’ll get some rain. 😂
Love my CAAD10 Black inc - anodised frame, hi mod fork and internal cable routing. Stuck a carbon save seatpost in and couldn’t tell the difference between my ss evo.
good video and agreed on this bike being just as good as current models - have a caad12 and put it through some heavy mileage in all conditions and it's still rocking - a well made all around bike for athletes and not market/instagram custies ;)
my first road bike is the CAAD10, was abandoned after rear ended by the famous HK taxi and i soon jumped on the disc+carbon bandwagon, in hindsight it is a very nice simple and trusty bike that i should have kept
I've got a CAAD12 I upgraded with Di2, Ksyrium Pro's, Hollowgram carbon seatpost, carbon bars, weighs 7.5kg, so now it's a CAADi2. )) I will not be buying another road bike any time soon. It's amazing.
If ever you want to change to a classic shimano style BB the FSA BB30 to BSA BB adapter is actually pretty light even if it doesn't look it. I just got my hands on a CAAD10 track :)
I have CAAD10 which became super custom with RED22, removed all paint, wet sanded few tubes, soda blasted to give some even texture before hard coat anodized black. Fork has just a coat of satin clear after it was stripped of all paint and filler ( there were four layers on it). I was shocked that size 54 with alloy clinchers... under UCI weight. Love the bike but only sucky thing is BB30.
I rode an Ultegra CAAD10 until it died on me recently. I noticed a huge crack in the chainstays behind the chainring. Already ripped though a quarter of the circumference of the tube. Fatigue issue I think. Got it second hand, so no warranty claim possible. Sold it for parts. I was quite happy with the geometry and it's ability to handle being mistreated. BB30 sucked. Lots of creaking. Removing the cranks, cleaning and greasing could solve that for 2000km and then it would come back. The original wheelset (mavic aksyum) are also not that great. It was a great upgrade to get some fulcrum racing 4s on there. Overal I was very happy with it. Bought it for €700 and rode it for 2.5 years. I've now got myself a brand new focus izalco max disc.
A very large buddy of mine cracked his caad 10 frame by the bottom bracket some years ago. He went through warranty with Cannondale and they gave him a brand new caad 12 (since the 10 was discontinued) shipped to his door.
Have the same bike for 2 years now. Mine has 105, and I put some Mavic wheels on it with Conti tyres, a Koolstop brake pads and a Sqlab saddle. The bike weights 7,8 kilo, is incredible stiff, and also soaks up the road vibrations pretty good thanks to a full carbon fork. I was thinking about switching to a carbon bike, but with an aluminium bike beeing soo good, light and comfortable, I am not sure what could I possibly get with the average carbon bike? Not too much I guess...
Had that exact frame. Corroded in maybe 2 years and had to be warrantied. Also why do you insist on using those older Vittorias instead of the newer Corsa Control G2.0?
after 3 years and about 20000km swapping for supersix evo same geometry same thing just a bit stiffer so yeah, good bike as well with di2 perfect but was about time...
BB30 is easy service with the right tools. I use Hybrid ceramic bearings and feel free to replace at the need I'm on my nth set. I have full Red 22 on my 2010 SS (SuperSix) that is on it's third everything. "Winter bike" is a fairy tale. You only need 1. I like your Caad10.
That's impressively light for a hack, that is lighter than my carbon with ultegra. I just got a new hack all rounder bike in a Trek Domane al3, predominantly for the tyre clearance, a bit porky mind (>10kg), especially with the extras bolted on. Are there any light ali frames with good tyre clearances, 32mm? I used to love my old Scott ali framed road bike, it was just the clearances which annoyed.
I love the CAAD10 and CAAD12 (which i have). I would love to get a CAAD10 like yours but its quite a bit more than £240 GBP now i suspect. Given that you can get the weight down on these bikes, and the carbon horror stories from Hambini and Luescher Teknik, do i really need a carbon bike? Most of us don't race competitively. I get it may be more comfortable absorbing road shock etc. but really are carbon bikes worth it? I was hit by a car (on wrong side of road) on my other alloy bike 3 months ago. I was not hurt, and the bike was not damaged (which i couldn't believe given the noise of the crash). anyway the only thing that failed was the carbon seatpost.
Cannondale’s geometry 📐 is always really refined and power transfer is direct. I too like the floating brake pivoting b/c when the wheels take a hit, you can still get back. Rim 4 the win;-)
You could always get a plastic shim to go down to a 22mm Shimano axle. Then you could use shimano chainrings which I’ve found to shift way smoother then any other brand.
There is something about a bike that fits and rides well. You tend to not worry about the weight if it’s not a total anchor. And why not use anti seize (copper grease) on the spindle?
I love my Caad10. I'd slightly prefer the Caad12 for the cleaner di2 routing (I rigged mine), but the Caad10.5 would do. BB30 without the "A", no weird seatpost size, etc. Sandwich style hangers are garbage though. The black anodized ones are the sweetest
Yesterday I visit local bikeshop to check some bikes, and have seen Cannondale models. Lot of paint drips, big gap between color, and holes for internal routing looks like pinched with nail. And disc only. Heavyer then my current 8.8kg Kuota. Honestly shocked by such quality for 2000+ usd.
BB30 isn’t a problem on alu frames. It’s easy to machine a round hole in alu. Different story on carbon, thou... And the alu axle isn’t cannondale’s fault 😉 I like my caadx as well. I hope Cannondale would go back to its roots, those old caad’s are looking AWESOME.
Love my CAAD 12 and 13. My 12 is very similar with a Rotor crank so thanks for the tip. I've been able to fit 28mm tyres fine on my 56mm CAAD 12. I bet that Lizardskins has only been on for 2 months, that stuff wears too quickly for my liking! Proper Cannondale aluminium bikes are pound for pound the best bikes around
My TCR advanced pro rim brakes with some light carbon clinchers and ultegra di2 weight 7,75kg. I like Caad10 frames they are light and look good. Only thing is that BB aligment can be shit and eat through bearings.
