(long comment) First, THANK YOU for checking IDLE! Hope you'll check more of their masterpieces. I love how most of your comments are on-point! Some info about them: Like you said, each girls have their own unique sound. This is because SOYEON (rapper) said to them not to blindly follow their vocal trainings, and stick to their individuality. (G)I-DLE (pronounced as "IDLE" in Korean, but they say G-IDLE when English). Their names origin is: G for "yeoja" meaning Woman. English character "i" which means INDIVIDUALITY. and DLE or "deul" meaning plural, they, or group, stating that they are a group of individual people. "Six different individuals with six different personalities, coming together as one.". The fandom is called "NEVERLAND" since it is the place where youth remains with magic and happy thoughts. As mentioned above, they have their "personalities" amongst them. Here's the list of members for your references: 1. SOYEON - rapper, but also the leader, writer, composer, producer, etc. She's not the eldest but others listen to her and respects her as their leader. And yes, she also conceptualized the MVs, album themes, and story. Her personality is CHARISMA, which really shows on stage performances. 2. MIYEON - lead vocalist. Eldest member. Puppy eyes. Personality is INNOCENT. 3.MINNIE - lead vocalist. Thai. Slays bangs. Really really have a good voice. Personality is DREAMY. 4. SOOJIN - main dancer. can slay with just looks. Personality is SEXY. 5. YUQI - deep voiced girl. Chinese. Personality is CUTE (way too cute). 6. SHUHUA - youngest. Taiwanese. PURE BEAUTY. Personality is CHIC. Some info for the song: -This song was created as their final performance in the competition QUEENDOM in 2019. You should definitely watch the LIVE. -SOYEON was then again frustrated since she wanted to watch the Lion King movie but cannot due to her busy schedule. So having the show in mind, she wrote a song with Lion in it. She also wanted to say that even tho they're LIONS, they can still be QUEENS. -They were talking about empowerment, declaration that they are queens even tho they're still rookies, and breaking the norms and standards of the industry. -This is why SOYEON's rap part was so real. Biting the courtesy, prejudice, etc. SOYEON never wanted the standards of kpop industry and always finds a way to break that wall. -Speaking of breaking walls, SOOJIN in the MV showed her tattoos for the first time. They are kinda not open in Korea especially to idols. So showing tattoos in an MV is a bold move indeed. After this, they rarely hide her tattoos, and even talk about them in VLIVES and social medias. -Regarding the adversities they encountered, SOYEON always put thought on them. SOYEON was called "ugly" before and due to this, she can't win performances and competitions, because they based idols on their standards of beauty -They all sang the "ba ba ba" part, stating they are all lions and queens. -They went from rags to riches to royalties. -The high note part states that, they are the young lions (only more than 1 year during the competition), but they're already taking the crowns. -The MV showed 6 different lions for each members (a stretch, but connecting to their real life challenges): -MINNIE was getting shot by arrows and spears, but still poised and calm. She's a Thai artist thus she's kinda hated by Kfans. But these hurtful things doesn't faze her coz she knew her ground and stood strong. -SOYEON was caged (either by something or someone), but the bars are wide enough for her to go thru. SOYEON was challenged by the industry due to her "ugliness", and since Korea's standard of beauty is damn high, she lost most of contests she joined in. But then she got out of that cage, and spoke the truth in her rap part. About her SIA look, she was actually inspired by her. -SOOJIN was scarred (even the painting) like you said. She was an introvert and shy person, that affected her social skills even as a kid. And there was a recent allegations about her that caused issues (for another vid). But, she's fun, sweet, and caring, and cooks for the girls, making her the "mother" of the group. -MIYEON was surrounded by rings, arrows, and daggers, that may look like a circus lion. She was actually "old" enough to even debut as an idol (she was suppossed to debut with Blackpink). Well, she's a fun girl and clowned by her friends (in a good way). -YUQI was draped with ornaments and surrounded with rays like a mane or a halo, signifying that she's a lion seen as a religious or high figure. YUQI is actually part of the brightest amongst the brightest of students in China, and even part of school clubs, but she chose to be an idol. She's fun but her words are true and respected. -SHUHUA was shown as a display, but lead an army in reality (black and white scene). This may connect to the comment that she's not given enough lines and just for "visual". She got less lines coz of her accent (she's Taiwanese) and Kfans are so critical with pronunciation, so she asked for few and easy lines. But Soyeon always put her on background vocals and adlibs. Also, she's the youngest but always speaks the truth, she even shouted and bashed haters during VLIVEs. And called Neverland (fandom) "Pabo-Land". ~~~~~~~~~~ (sorry for the long post, here's a potato) (::::::)

Guys, I'll be honest, I'm not sure how accurate my interpretation is here, it's probably the first time I ever felt a bit lost during a reaction but regardless I absolutely loved this song, and It's one of my favorites so far! Enjoy the reaction, and feel free to drop some knowledge on the backstory of this MV!

LION has been produced by Soyeon (the leader and rapper of the group) and Big Sancho (music producer), Soyeon created the concept, wrote the lyrics and brought the main composition then worked along Big Sancho on final composition and arrangement. This song has been created for and during a survival show called Queendom where the group participated (this means during quite a short time with lot of pressure) The lyrics are inspired by the struggles that the group faces as female idols, the group is a self producer group, they provide their songs (lyrics and original composition) and finalise them with music producers, this is really rare in kpop for female idols, female idols are looked down by the entertainment industry and public, and most of time they are only expected to be pretty and sing, so when a female idol brings her own sound she may be criticized and not even be considered as an artist/lyricist/producer. But (G)I-DLE and in particular Soyeon (who almost produces all the songs of the group) prove the haters are wrong, the group can bring great music by themselves and the ones who criticized them can only applause now. Also it may reflect the struggle the group encounter as female idol, as an artist and as a person: Minnie, Yuqi and Shuhua are non-Korean, it is quite a challenge in a kpop group, Miyeon almost debut in another group for another company but left and almost gave up her dream, Soojin debuted in another group for another company but the group ended brutally, she almost gave up, Soyeon has been rejected 20-30 times by companies and has been heavily criticised on her look during her first survival show as a trainee The struggles they encounter can't bring them down, the others (haters or lovers) can't decide/choose for them, they are their own lion / own queen / own ruler ; The chorus says "I'm a lion a queen like a lion" ; in the popular folklore the lion is the king, not the lioness, so they say they are the ones who rule and being women won't stop them to do so. I'm so glad you reacted to one of my top fave groups. Soyeon the leader is fierce, as are all the members. I love how distinctive their vocals are & personalities too. The song was featured (& written) for Queendom where they were considered Rookies. They were also considered Monster Rookies because of their ability to tackle a variety of genres, styles, & concepts. I've watched several interviews with Soyeon & the other members & they've mentioned that they found inspiration from Beyonce & lots of diverse acts. They also are a fairly diverse group, as three of the members are from elsewhere in Asia (Yuqi is Chinese, Shuhua is Taiwanese, & Minnie is Thai). Lion was on their "I Trust" EP, which was supposed to come out right before they toured America. It has the amazing "Oh My God" song & MV as well. "Dumdi Dumdi," "Seniorita," "Hann," "Hwaa," "Latata," & "Uh-Oh" all show their range & talent, as well as many of their B-sides. I'd really suggest seeing their Queendom stage of this song, which was released before this video & includes an intro with an English voiceover that gives more story & context that plays into the life of Joan of Ark & other Queens. This was really their song showing their desire & power to become number 1 in music. Soojin has left the group due to alleged bullying she was accused of doing in essentially Junior High & is... complicated & ties into larger bullying allegations throughout 2020 & early 2021 throughout South Korea. The group has mainly been focusing on solo projects. I assume until the dust settles. Regardless of controversy, they've released some stand out music & MVs, & I hope you react to more. "Oh My God" & "Hwaa" are truly must see though.

(G)I-Dle is a great group. This song was made for the show Queendom where various girl groups competed against one another. Their performances and the performances of the other groups from the show (especially Mamamoo) are worth checking out. Soyeon the leader and the rapper (she has blonde hair in this music) is a key figure in shaping their music. She is the lone writer for a lot of their songs, and also produces a lot of it. She is hands one down of the best rappers in the business right now and truly a queen. Even before GI-dle debut, she had made her mark after appearing on Produce 101 and the second season of Unpretty Rapstar. She is a part of K/DA (which is the League of Legends K-Popish group). She also released a solo album earlier this year. My favorite song off it is "Is this bad b**** number" which features Bibi and Lee Young-Ji, two other amazing artists. They certainly try a lot of different music styles and all of their singles are worth checking out.

Soyeon and the other members of (G)I-DLE just hit different with their lyrics (for myself at least). "Lion" is so great, as was your reaction to it! I may have squealed when I saw you'd uploaded this haha. They were the second girl group I ever became aware of (after BLACKPINK), but Soyeon has my heart when it comes to female rappers, Korean or otherwise. It's just so inspiring that she can sing, rap, song write, and produce hits. I love that no matter how often I've seen this video, it still leaves me with questions too. I think the meaning behind the visuals are open to interpretation, and really that's what music is about. How it makes you feel. For me it's just a BadA** empowering anthem haha. Inspired by Lion King and Written for the competition show Queendom Lion is definitely one of their biggest most impactful songs! Soyeon the rapper as many said produces and writes most of their music herself so G idle has such a unique sound. Minnie is the one with the piercing vocals and she can hit that live. Shuhua got the long second verse on this song and that was a real treat for us bc after getting hate for her pronunciation ( korean isn't her first language) so she shies away from getting a lot of lines. Soyeon really believes in her abilities and wrote this song partly for her to give her confidence in herself and what really broke my heart is the first time they performed this on queendom Shuhua killed it but she cried after thinking she did bad 😭😭. It's an amazing performance you should check it out all of the queendom performances are amazing!

I love Lion so much, it's just all confidence and power, and makes me feel like I could conquer a small country. 😂One of my other favourite tracks from them is Oh My God. It is gorgeous, really haunting and dark sounding. They have some lighter things too, but the darker vibes are my comfy place.

(G)-idle is my favorite group when it comes to songs, they have some of the best songs that u can listen to for months and months and never get tired of them! One of the only groups that can do that for me!

I COULD be mistaken, but I think this was that one song that Jeon Soyeon wrote in like ten minutes or something absurd like that (Soyeon is the tiny blonde rapper here). Yay! You got to another one of my favorites. If you want to understand them better, then check out "Oh My God" - it has some of the most stunning visuals I've ever seen. They always have this haunting quality to their songs. I'm surprised you didn't note the use of black-and-white video in this - it provides a contrast that's meaningful. As I've said, I love "girl groups" who have that lower vocal range, and this is a good example of why. It allows them to totally shift the mood of the song just by shifting vocalists. I don't follow them that closely, but I think that they've had some group issues (the lead vocalist left, I think) and that's too bad because they really stand out from the pack.
