Let It Be is a gift to the world. I've been listening to it for 50 years and it's still extremely emotional. Sometimes I think about John's murder. Sometimes I think about George's death. Sometimes I think about my current situation living in my car. Sometimes I think about world events. It always gets to me. If you want to watch more of the Get Back sessions there's an 8 hour documentary that Peter Jackson (of Lord of the Rings) put together.
I don't know how you came to this version, sometimes I feel like people will not appreciate a demo version like this, but fortunately you have that kind of warm heart mate! That's comforting!
The song golden slumbers will make me bawl instantly as my mum told me that song saved her once when she was in a bad place also. The Beatles just have a way of speaking to people!
A year after his mother passed, Paul met John, and joined his little "Quarrymen" group. A year later, John's mother, Julia, was hit by a drunken police officer going home from the pub. This was a critical bonding moment between Lennon and McCartney.
Paul's dreamed that his mother was standing in front of his bed saying: Let it Be, the same as she was used to do when he was a child. She died when he was 14. The hour of darkness refers to the probably end of the Beatles but there's still a chance the day will see. He suffered so much, man.
This song was there for me during dark times also. It's like there's an understanding held within the lyric that wraps its arms around you when you feel inconsolable. Holds you when you need to let it all out and lets you know it will be ok.
“In the end, aren’t we all just wandering through life with a suitcase and a lantern, searching for a place where we belong?” ~Scott Bradlee ‘Outside the Jukebox’
Thank you for sharing your connection to this song. I was fortunate in being born at the right time to grow up with the Beatles. Their music has meant so much to not just my generation, but so many who have come after. I just love your calm assertion that there's a reason the Beatles are still on top of the list. You got me - I've subscribed.
I like your reaction about this song. I remember the exact spot on the road I was driving when I heard it on the radio a day of april 1970. They said it was the last song of the beatles and I was full of apprehension. I was quite amazed by the beauty of the song because the beatles had said that the recordings of january 69 had been a nightmare, they were not satisfied with them. So I thought that the remaining songs to be released were to be bad. But when the LP "Let it be" was released in june 1970 I was once again surprised that it was a very good LP. About the song Let it be, I remember having heard the spokeman on radio saying that it seems that Paul is turning very catholic because of the word "Mary"
There is an interesting story that goes with this song. Paul says it best himself. He had a dream where he saw his mother, who kept repeating "let it be" which is why he says "mother Mary" although most people think he is talking about the virgin Mary.
I was born in 1964 and grew up with The Beatles!! I love so many, many of their songs!! Almost all of them, actually!! Let It Be is a perfectly beautiful piece!!! One of my other favourites is The Long And Winding Road! Maybe you’d take a look at that and react to it?? Love yah Mr. Cliff Beats!! ❤❤❤
You should watch the sequence from the Get Back documentary where Paul, George and Ringo are waiting around for John to show up and while they do it Paul just plucks the title song, "Get Back", straight out of the ether. It's freaking amazing.
It's a great version. I was born and bred in Liverpool and went to the same school as Mc Cartney and Harrison. I was 5 when The Beatles hit. I can still remember a certain buzz about the place, even though I was only young!
"When all the broken hearted people agree, there will be an answer"❤ I know the song is 50ish years old(Sweet Jesus I feel old😅), but I feel like this line is especially relevant with all that's going on. We need to unite❤🥰
I am a big fan of alt versions of Beatle tracks too. I like the Anthology series and the new deluxe reissues of the albums with the bonus material. That said, I think you might want to go ahead and listen to the finished track, album version, too. It's an epic recording.
I'm so glad you brought us another Beatles reaction! I'm a super fan of the Beatles and as a young guy of 27 I feel like a lot of people don't appreciate the Beatles' music anymore, they just know the name .... that's why I love ppl giving the actual music of the Beatles a shot :) I really enjoyed your reaction and I would love more Beatles reactions, cause there are a lot of bangers out there! :)
So, basically, Paul's mother (Mary) came to him in a dream and told him to Let It Be, it was all going to be okay. He was going through a very rough time as the Beatles were breaking up. Now, a few years earlier, he woke up with the entire tune of Yesterday in his head. He asked just about everyone he knew if they had heard it before as he couldn't quite believe it that it wasn't something he picked up from somewhere else. The working title of Yesterday was Scrambled Eggs. Obviously, he brilliantly thought of better lyrics.
The 3-part Documentary, "Get Back", has hours of this very fly-on-the-wall impression of us hanging out in the same room, as musical geniuses allow their personal issues to interact with the creative process. I've only seen the first of three installments, and it was like watching old friends struggling to stay together after their love for each other has seemingly left for college with the kids! lol But seriously, it broke my heart (which might explain why I haven't finished it yet), but it's part of our cultural history and needs to be seen if only to experience what legends are like, when they forget the cameras are rolling.
If you enjoyed watching them in the studio, have a watch of Peter Jackson’s Get Back documentary. It’s 8 hours altogether but it’s so enjoyable to see the process of them putting together some of the best songs ever written.
I second that. It's in 3 parts and will absolutely reward the time you spend watching. And without spoiling too much... you will have the opportunity to watch the moment of birth of a song that became well-known and loved by millions of us.
"If you want more Beatles on this channel". Biggest selling band of all time means biggest number of fans... Yes please, more Beatles Reactions.. it's a no brainer. Shayne 57 from NZ
The idea behind of what became the 'Let it be' album was to go back to basics, the raw sound as you call it. The project got shelved and was eventualy (over)produced by Phil Spector. McCartney has said that he always liked the raw versions better and in 2003 finally pushed for the release of these versions the way they meant it to be. It was released as a newly mixed, official Beatles album: Let it be... naked. This is a very cool album, worth adding to your collection. And as a bonus, there's a second cd of studio chatter, which is sort of a prelude to Peter Jacksons' Get Back movie.
Love your honesty about your past. It’s part of your testimony and shows others that there is always a way out of any funk or struggle we are in currently. Appreciate you Cliff and happy to see you doing well. You always say hit you up if we need to vent and I want to extend the same offer to you as well bro. Hit me up if you need to anytime. Just let me know where to contact you and I’ll give you my number as well. You’re not alone and am here if you need it, same goes to anyone else in the comments. Blessings and stay safe everyone.
Good for you listening to the pared down version instead of the over the top orchestra/choir version. John Lennon on bass. this was a filmed rehearsal during the Let It Be/Ge Back movie sessions from January 1969. George had not really developed the guitar solo yet. And Paul changed the words on purpose being funny about their roadie Mal Evans.. Billy Preston on organ. song sat dormant for almost a year...the single was different from the album version. You're a very articulate guy keep up the good work.
In a dream his mother (who died of breast cancer when he was 14) Mary McCartney came to him and told him everything would be ok, "Just let it all be, Jimmy" . When James Paul McCartney woke, he wrote the song.
I'm a scouser and The Beatles are one of my facourite bands, but I've never heard this version of the song. Hearing John say "Fucked it!" at t=4:36 cracke dme up!
The Long and Winding Road is my favourite Beatles track same album, but Let it be is close! The dream was for Yesterday from his mother Mary! Great choice.
If you're looking for more raw versions of beautiful songs, you may want to check out Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah. It's one of my favorite renditions and always gets me.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND "Tom Traubert's Blues (4 Sheets to the Wind in Copenhagen)" by Tom Waits (Also known as "Waltzing Matilda"). His voice is so unique that one critic once described it as though "it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months and then taken outside & run over with a car"! He's a well-regarded & respected songwriter from within the "Rock" genre from the 70's & 80's. I'd LOVE to hear your take on his signature song. Some say this is the best song ever recorded. I know this is an old video so probably won't see this, but if so listen on your own time ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wXTJBr9tt8Q.html
This ain't the best version man. In fact it's rather weak. You need to listen to the album version, remastered 2009, which actually rocks because of George Harrison's lead guitar and the augmented horn section.
