Once you get this watch on a different strap it really comes to life. I went with a black pilot style sailcloth with white stitching from B&R bands and it looks epic! Great review Teddy 🤘🏻
Speaking of that, anyone try any new straps on their Hamilton? Any recommendations? I’m still rocking the stock one till it’s broken in but I’m curious as to what color combos y’all have had
I have the titanium version. The only thing I was unsatisfied with was the light leather strap (in my oppinion it is too light on the titanium version), so I changed it to a darker (golden) brown alligator strap, and oh boy did that improve the look significantly. I even learned how to use a spring bar tool from another of Teddy's videos.
the stainless model you can get for around $2k looks the best imo. the titanium version is nice as well. I love the dimensions and brushed look on this watch. Definitely my favorite watch in my collection.
Hi Teddy from Australia. This was my first 'expensive' watch purchase a couple of years ago and still absolutely love everything about it. I wear it most days under my business shirt and find the height fine. Keep up the great videos!!!
My favorite watch in my collection. And I own a more expensive GS and Omega. Only thing I didn't like was the leather strap. Swapped it out for a light green canvas strap from The Strap Tailor.
Ahhhh … Longines 🥰 I had the opportunity to handle one in my local jewellers (titanium version) and it looks and feels fantastic. Thanks for your insight and thanks for sharing.
Love this watch! One of my favorite Longines, and I like a lot of their Heritage and Spirit lines. And I’m so glad there isn’t a date window! Overall I hate’em. They should only be on GMT, Day-Date, Annual or Perpetual calendar watches.
Love the big eye and tried the Titanium model last week at my AD. They've done a great job with the Titanium / Blue dial version. Slightly less legible than the standard version here, but legibility still fine. It's a very good looking watch with vintage origins and a modern twist. Next week I return to my AD to compare the Titanium model with the standard model you have reviewed here, which as you mention is probably even better value. I have no idea which of these I'm going to buy. But the 'The Battle of the Big Eyes' at my AD next week will provide the answer!!
It's a tough choice, but I chose the titanium version as the blue dial paired with the color of the casing stood out once they are next to each other, I did swap out the strap for a darker toned brown Hirsch strap along with Longines stock butterfly clasps, it's now my favourite weekend watch.
As a Doctor, one of my old Swiss patient asked me to try my watch and I gave him the Big Eye. He tried it and then said to me "what a wonderful piece" ! I couldn't agree more...
When this watch was released I confess I didn't have time (pun intended) for it. At the time I had a fixation on the sub dials cutting though the numerals and generally that has stuck.... But later reviews pointed me more to how easy it is to read the chronograph and then it just clicked, this is a tool chronograph. It took a while, maybe a year to find one in steel that I could see in the flesh at an AD and that AD 80 miles away. Anyway I dropped into the AD and tried it on and the deal was done. This is the most readable at a glance chronograph that I have and that includes my old Speedy. I have to agree the lack of a date complication is a positive in this case. I'm a big fan of the BigEye but the black dial just works better for me.
Got mine in 2018 from Amazon for $1600. Use it purely as a back up chrono in the aircraft so no need for a date. Much more legible than the Daytona. I was about to get a used Breguet type xx 3800 when I stumbled on the BigEye. The size of the Breguet is more suitable for my wrist size but am happy I saved about four grand. Put mine on a thick black leather strap with white stitching. It’s a keeper.
Yes they are I a different league. But not to the tune of 10x better. Longines and Breguet are both part of the Swatch Group. Your analogy should’ve been Lexus and Toyota. @@aaronmittnacht6939
Great review, Teddy. As mentioned before, the leather strap that came with mine was light liver brown and was not of the same level as the watch itself. Swapped it out for a more robust cognac brown leather strap with white stitching and WOW!, what a different watch it becomes. The lume is indeed weak compared to a Tudor, but overall this watch is something special. Happy to own one. Keep it up with these reviews. Thanks.
Your profile pic is too high in the outro, you should center it to your social links. Great video though, I’m considering a PRX chrono but keeping an open mind
The $500 premium for the Longines Avigation Big Eye with the titanium case and petroleum blue dial are worth it. I am hard pressed to find a Grade 5 titanium case chronograph, let alone one with a column wheel mechanism and for under $3500.
Reeeeegret selling mine. Was running plus one a day. Best looking pilot style chrono out there. The IWCs are great but they are to real pilots as the Sub is to real divers. The Bigeye retains some toolishness w a good taste of luxury.
I also regret selling mine, was the coolest watch in my collection. I ended up buying another one and haven’t looked back - sounds like that may be your solution my friend!
Great watch, had it, loved it BUT when you start to use the Chronograph you realise the minutes sub dial is a pain too read and you start doing your 3 x tables.
@@anjav6 do you really think that the Swatch brands (looking at Omega in particular) would let a sub $3k watch eat into the high end and higher margin of the luxury brands? That would be crazy, right? Why buy a Speedmaster, when it’s equaled by the Big Eye, would be many peoples rationalisation.
I own this watch. I have a 6.5 inch wrist. The stock brown leather band barely fits my wrist. Is it that odd? Do they come with different length strap options?
Indeed it's a top notch mechanical chronograph watch for the price point but not very practical for recording lapse time as the minute counter is incremented in three minutes intervals, remnant of the French air force specs stipulated by that famous tender.
Teddy I have a few problems with this watch: the big eye sub-register at 3:00 destroys the symmetry of the dial; the sub-registers are the same color as the main dial, which detracts from the overall visibility of the dial and sub-registers (panda and reverse panda styles successfully address this); and, the obscured indices on the main dial and the missing ones on the big eye sub-register complicate timekeeping--granted the main dial indices are not that critical to timekeeping, but it would take some experience with this watch to know where your stopwatch was in the first 30 minutes. The movement accuracy is impressive, but....
My man. There are sooo many watches you haven’t covered, and you’ve already talked about this one. Pls cover some new stuff, like the new Nomos Club Sport or some older models people might not know about - i.e. the Longines Pulsometer heritage is a fantastic value now that it’s been out for some years!
