Then how is barbershop notated in regards to octaves? I've always thought the 8 under treble clef meant that the whole treble clef was actually sung down an octave, but if the post is A4, then that's not the case.

@@davispogor4460 You're correct regarding the clef notation. That puts "middle C" (C4) in the 3rd space, so the A above the staff is A4

Makes sense! I wasn't there for this performance, but I was lucky enough to see them do it at the semifinals 2 weeks ago, and it felt exactly like how you described. Their first song has a similar ending so I thought there's no way they'd put Alex through that two songs in a row, but they totally did it and when it was nearing the end, I was already in tears, but you could just feel the entire arena waiting for that last chord so they could erupt into applause and jump out of their seats. Definitely one of the best barbershop performances I've had the pleasure of seeing live

I don't know, I don't enjoy that sound. The fact that he can do it is impressive, sure, but in my opinion, he should not have done it at all.

@@ABarbershopBarber slightly the tuning, but mostly the slightly belty, forced (at least, I hear it so) timbre on the final note.

I'm not a big fan of it. It sounds too shouty to me, and the 2nd before it ruins it. His falsettos are amazing tho.

@@itamarbar9580i can promise you there is no shout at all. At harmony U i was standing 3 feet away from him when he sang this and it’s all control. It’s amazing.
