Especially on camera, if the manager had any swingers, he would have done it himself. I'm going back to my days in Kosovo, 1999, was in my armoured vehicle a Scimitar, armed with a 30mm Cannon and a 7.62mm machine gun. Our vehicle was getting shot at from distance, most missed, we could hear the odd ping on the side of the vehicle, my Sergeant said just shoot, my reply was where and at who? He said I don't care just shoot, that's an order. I couldn't see where or who was doing the shooting, so I refused to pull any triggers. In fact I told the Sgt, to get in the gunners seat and fill his boots, but he wasn't prepared to take responsibility. Was reported for it, but I stood my ground, in front of the Commanding Officer who praised me , for just not blindly following an order. I know it's not quite the same scenario, but the point and principal still stand. As a person I'm not doing something that' isn't right or proper, no matter who is telling me it. I could of lost my job, for disobeying a direct order, but in my case peoples lives were at risk. I wasn't going to be responsible for that on someone else's say so. In the video scenario, there is always the possibility of police turning up and removing a person's freedom or worse, on the say so of someone else.

@@stuartbrown8259 You had a commanding officer though that was a superior to your sergeant. This security guy may have a boss that has the discretion and power to fire him - with less recourse and proper command structure above than you had in the military.

@@RoyalFlushFan Maybe so,but the CO had a pair of balls, to understand the situation as I presented it. The manager in this place will have an ultimate boss somewhere, so that's still no excuse. It's like getting the underling to do the dirty work under threat of the sack, but not be responsible for any of it.

People need to question their bosses all the time. This has been shown to be the right thing, time and time again. You don't have to agree, or do what the boss says, just because he is the boss.

@@MikeEvesFor some jobs it’s not worth the agro to question your boss over something as trivial as this. He did his job, and no one was harmed. Naturally if you’re asked to do something illegal or harmful, that’s the time to question your boss.

@@MikeEves I broadly agree with your “just following orders” is no defence, but here, the orders were all but meaningless, so he complied, then left it alone. On balance, he did good. He doesn’t need to be fired over this and some bosses are utter arses that would have his income off him for a perceived “sleight” or “disobedience”
