Carl, really a brilliant critique and analysis. To those of us who believe Jimmy Page was the best, you prove the point with every video. He was the master of the guitar symphony...there might be faster, more technically proficient players out there, but none of them have Page's command of the melodic progression, his instincts and pure taste...every song is a guitar journey to be cherished....there are lines within lines that could fuel entire songs. There are great players out there, and there is Page.

I once heard it said JP was not so much a songwriter, but more a composer. Made sense to me! The feelings, nuances, emotions, pictures he created with his music testify to his uniqueness and mastery.

I love this song when Page did it live. His solos's were like wild trips into the mountains. I'm pretty sure he never played a solo the same way twice. Sometimes you think he's ventured so far off the trail he's never going to fall back into the song but somehow he finds the track again. As per usual, this was a beautiful study of a solo that few people look into

The main riff in The Ocean is possibly my favorite riff in their entire catalog.

Jimmy Page's solo on "Since I've Been Loving You," is one of the greatest solos ever in the blues field. Since he was a studio musician for so many years he understood how to put tracks together to form a whole. That's a hard thing to do. There are other guitar solos in other genres like jazz and pop but as far as the blues goes, this is one of the greatest songs ever written. Jimmy could also win an award for all of his acoustic solo work with Zepp. Jimmy is a big fan of original blues. But "The Ocean" is wonderful.

It's a really short solo, but "Celebration Day" has always been one of my favorites.

Since I've been Loving You is hands down his best guitar solo. All of his guitar work is the best.

I have no trouble playing this lead on my air guitar.

I've been playing guitar for 40 years and have listened to and studied many of the greats, and to me, there is no one like Page. His solos have the greatest passion and personality of any guitarist I've ever played. He was always stretching and looking for something interesting, new, and fun. You explain his unique playing with great precision and power. Good stuff.

This was fun to watch! It shows how complex Jimmy's studio work was. My favourite underrated JP solos include the ones in The Rover, Ten Years Gone and For Your Life.

My personal favorite is the last guitar solo from In The Light off the Physical Graffiti album. I know many Led Zeppelin fans who've never even heard of the song 🤯

There are so many great solos by Jimmy Page it's hard for me to say which is my favorite, but the first solo in Achilles' Last Stand (Presence) and this song's second solo played live at that Knebworth festival are simply amazing. The solo in No Quarter in TSRTS is also at another level!

I'd like to add "I'm Gonna Crawl" solo, the last song from "In Through The Out Door". It is a very emotional tune because of incredible Robert Plant's vocal range and Jimmy Page's guitar tune. This song really have such a unique feeling of the last song they ever recorded together with Bonham. Like this is the end of their path. So I always feel myself encouraged when I hear this solo. Speaking of overlooked Zep material, "Out on the Tiles" deserves some love. The riff, and total effort of the band was just killer. An excellent example of how important the spaces are in the rhythm.

Jimmy Page is the most versatile lead player ever. My favorite little solo is that jazzy spot in the middle of "No Quarter", right before that super distortion dual lead. Some of his finest sounding stuff IMHO....

It’s a celebration of rock music on so many levels, this solo bit is. I too have been listening to Zeppelin for about 40 years and still don’t tire of it. I heard Joe Perry once say that: “a good solo has beginning, middle and end parts to it.” I’d have to agree w him. The Walk This Way solo is a good example of course. You need to keep the listener interested.

Led Zep is one of the most thoroughly mined bands of all time. Everything they created has been reviewed, dissected and studied for over half a century.

Page has colour flourishes that other bands would make a whole song out of. So good.

Achilles is the greates single Page lick he's ever performed and his chops are legendary. The solo is epic and mesmerizing with it's blues rhythm riffs and speed metal leads. Along with Bonham's crushing double base and tom tom pounding and cymbals assault topped off by speedy rounds of machine gun drumming makes this the single most epic song in a history of epic legendary music. Definitely my favorite and they're all my favorite. I was fortunate to see Zep perform at numerous shows in the 70s when their shows were 4 hours long along with Bonham's half hour drum solos in the middle of their sets. I still vividly remember their tour where they included a 1 hour acoustical set and how so many people were upset about it and freaking out and now 50 years later it's obtained legendary notoriety while recieving historical acclaim.

I love that I've been listening to Page's playing on LZ for over 35 years and keep discovering new things. You've got the flashy licks, the straight up blues, the textured backgrounds, the bends with all their nuances. And that's just the electric guitars. Not to mention the rest of the band. This has always been one of those sneaky little guitar interludes that has always knocked my socks off! I have always felt that nearly orgasmic feeling that Plant exclaims about at that very point. It is one of the juiciest, most electrifying phrases I’ve ever heard in any piece of music. The fact that it occurs almost as the song is playing out seems to leave you just craving more! I’ve played this part of the song over and over trying to recapture the magic of that musical moment again and again but it’s hard to figure out where to best start the record over to get the full effect because it’s so perfectly woven into the overall composition. I have never heard it analyzed before and you do it so wonderfully here. It’s like the sun bursting out at the top of a mountain after an extra beautiful and thrilling hike. It truly is a masterful piece of composition that sings out and places you somewhere you rarely get to go, it gives you a feeling, a thrill that makes trudging through hours of mediocre music worth all the trouble. It’s the kind of moment that I’m always looking for but only rarely experiencing. Your tutorial is fantastic and really pulls back the curtain on the magic being produced but you do it in a way that’s clean and not tedious but allows you to still experience the joy of the music. A truly fantastic job of analyzing and explaining a deceptively simple sounding solo. A hardy thanks!!!

The Ocean is one of those songs I've heard a thousand times, but with the layers of overdubs, and Page's studio magic, I always feel like I hear new things going on. I taught this song at a rock camp one year, and that solo is perfect for beginner/intermediate level guitar players, despite being a genius composition.

Great vid! I've always loved the major pentatonic/major blues solos with the really expressive "happy" bends. I'm a huge Page fan. I spent more time playing along with the zep 10 disc box set than in class and studying at university. Some of the greatest times. Watching this actually brought tears of joy to my eyes, remembering the feeling of being young and jammin to my favorite tunes with my friends. I have that feeling once again. Thank you, my friend. Thanks for posting this lesson. I like the way you reference Page's influence (BB King) in this solo, how he changes the phrasing and the 6th intervals related to Heartbreaker. I don't know any guitarist that uses repetition as effectively as Page does to create tension and release in a song. If you could post a video on this that would be great. I'm a guitarist also.
