You're exactly right. The 575 was actually an improved version of the D555A prototype that dates back to the late 1970s. It was displayed in 1981 before they pulled the plug due to recession. It came back 10 years later as the D575A 🙂

Your best bet is to get the parts from other dozers that are now out of service, which makes it difficult due to the to very limited amount ever built. Whoever buys these is gonna spend a lot on top of the $875,000, that's for sure 🙂

This machine is probably not the most perfect iron out there but it's a wonderful symbol straight out of the 1990's, when manufacturers were trying to get that "biggest ever" race going. I can see one of these dozers becoming a nice museum piece tbh, it would be great.

$875,000 for a dozer of that size is a bargain, whether it were a 575A like this one or an older Cat D-11. These machines cost millions new, and while it would be expensive to fix the issues this one has it is still far cheaper than buying a new machine.

Almost guarantee you the transmission is shot. This was one of the main weaknesses on this machine.

I know a mine in New Zeland currently runs a couple. I heard Australia still has a few but I can't confirm... I doubt Komatsu still makes new ones. What they could be doing, maybe, is assemble dozers out of spare parts but even this sounds not so plausible. I'd believe it if it was 2-3 years after discontinuing a machine but 10 years? Not sure 🙂

@@miningshorts yeah that’s what I said to him and said to me “ I can assure you they still make them”…🤷🏻‍♂️…as a rule every manufacturer is required to make parts for their products 10 years after discontinuing a product line…I’m sure they still make parts for this machine but who knows?…if a client wanted one and they had deep enough pockets I’m sure Komatsu would accommodate them…that being said, the 575 just wasn’t that good of a machine for any company to want Komatsu to make one special order…especially when the 475 was and is such a good machine and they sold a ridiculous amount of them…I believe when they were still making the 575, the ratio was 24:1 of 475’s to 575’s…and where the 575’s were basically hand built, they had to take guys off the 475 line to build a 575 which just wasn’t worth it for them…at the end of the day the 575 was a special order dozer for every one that was made and when you can’t built an assembly line for a product because there just isn’t enough demand for it, then costs go up because efficiency goes down…475’s and D11’s will fill the gap quite nicely going into the future!

Not a lot of demand for a dozer this large. Komatsu only made 100 in 20 years. Which is Probably why Cat never bothered to make a D12.

I don't need to look it up, I made videos about it. Here we're talking about an actual production dozer, not a homemade thing that never pushed dirt

@@UnknowableAbsolute irrelevant that it wasn’t a “production” model, since the video title, nor the content mentioned biggest “production” model. And the Acco did push dirt, as it was extensively tested after being built.

@@miningshorts the unit was not “homemade“. It was manufactured by a legitimate machinery manufacturer that produced lots of other construction machinery. In addition, it was wasn’t built as a toy or model, it was built to actually do the job of a large bulldozer. It was also tested extensively, including pushing dirt.
