Love this when banging around outside doing yard work or in the woods. Put it on a distressed strap and now with the patina going on it looks like it’s 50 years old. Love it.

I have a decent collection of watches (Rolex, Tudor, JLC, Breitling, Longines, ...) and recently bought the Khaki Filed 38mm (steel/Nato) simply because it is a great watch , regardless of the price. Thanks for your great videos Teddy.

I have been on a three day obession of my search all night to morning and just searching what a good field watch that won’t disappoint me. Atm I have cater all the list down and now my only mind is Hamilton 38 mm auto field watch ( I would get mechanical is just that if I do get it as my first watch I’m worry about if it’s randomly stop and need service, do I have to pay a lot for Hamilton service? ) idk too much.. but I also like the bronze but it’s like $729-800 so it’s kinda driving me crazy

Finally! I've been waiting for your review on this! I bought this watch towards the end of May of this year. It very quickly became my go to daily watch. Nice watches on their own are a joy to use. The fact that this watch will age and "patina" because of you using it really makes it special to me. Going on a hike, playing some sports, or any type of adventuring makes it unique. Also for a 38 it wears a little larger, i have a 8.25" wrist and it still fits extremely well. I love this watch. Awesome review as always!

The biggest problem I have with the Khaki is which one to choose. Seems to change every day. A classic design that works just as well knee deep in mud or having tea at the Ritz (after you've cleaned the mud off).

This is why I don't have a Hamilton watch yet, I can't decide which Khaki to buy, and don't want to inundate my collection with variants.

Have a check on the reliability of the Hamilton extended power movements. I've owned 2 in a short space of time. Why 2? The first one stopped working. They've not just turned the oscillations down, they've swapped some parts out too. Check forums and there's plenty more people found the same issue. Total number/percentage of drift? No idea, but I'm one for 2 on movement failures on hamilton 80 hrs
@AlexMi77

After how much time? I own one. It’s been two years, still running perfectly.
@wittmanist
@wittmanist 2 года назад
@@AlexMi77 the first one lasted under 2 weeks. The second one ive not had a problem with - runs fine and keeps good time. I did some looking after the first one died and it appears to be fairly common, or at least not uncommon for some of the thinner replaced parts in the extended 80 and 40 to break. I came across the phrase/reasoning that they 'don't like hand winding'. Fair enough if you're over winding it, but a few winds shouldn't be an issue. I've no axe to grind with the brand, but it's made me wary of further purchases of this generation of movement.

@@wittmanist got it. Well I have the automatic version on the bracelet. Pretty solid up to now. Actually first automatic watch I bought, while I already had an Omega Geneve my father gave me. I've had an automatic Khaki with the H10 movement for 6 years now and it's been running pretty much nonstop since then and never had an issue. I did recently have it regulated because it always ran about 6-9 seconds slow and I decided I was tired of it being my only slow watch, but now it runs perfect. Anywhere from dead on to 4 seconds fast. Obviously just anecdotal but that's my experience.

As an owner of this watch and many other hand-wound mechanical watches, I can honestly say that you can tell this has a quality movement. The winding is so smooth and responsive, and when you have to pull the crown out to set it, you get a really satisfying, firm “click “ to know it’s in position. This is a true testament to Swiss craftsmanship in watchmaking.

I really wish this came with an automatic movement. I've always wanted a Hamilton khaki field and the bronze case put it over the top for me. I know some people love mechanical watches but personally I would only purchase an automatic unless the watch was a Speedmaster or a vintage watch. The lack of the automatic movement pushed me to spend quite a bit more money and purchase a Bronze Rado Caption Cook 42mm. Beautiful watch either way, I'm sure plenty of people will purchase it and love it.

Teddy Thank you so much for your detailed reveiw! You bring up several salient points! The H50 movement for one is problematic as is the Bronze case though that seems to be the major selling point! Patina is wonderfull but green and crusty is a problem! I've seen one or two. Sites that suggest what to do when it becomes that way,but why buy it in the first place? Again,thank you for your in Depth Reveiw!

@davehv23
@davehv23 Месяц назад
If I ever happen to be more than 10 meters deep under water.. I would be dead.
@kzlfaku
@kzlfaku Месяц назад
Probably because 50m means you really should not swim with it, something you might end up doing when in the field. At least if you're a soldier. But I agree, this is a minor thing with this watch. Most of us don't look at a forest as a warzone when hiking. You can really just take off the watch if you're having a bath or swim.
@gavinmessina8122
@gavinmessina8122 12 дней назад
People don’t understand just that it says 50m dose not mean you can go down 50m so in reality it’s even less. I wouldn’t risk even swimming with it on especially because there is no screw down crown. All my watches without a screw down crown I don’t swim in because if you hit it on something it could open the crown and let water in the movement. You probably could get away with out it but for me personally I wouldn’t. ⏱️

Excellent review as usual, Teddy. I'm a fan of the Hamilton Khaki collections and own several. In this case, though, I'd opt for a more unique choice, a 40 mm bronze pilot watch from Dekla , a small German microbrand. For about the same price as the Hamilton reviewed here, Dekla offers a gorgeous bronze alternative in the traditional type A "flieger" design. (A type B version is offered as well.) Highly recommended for its quality and the wide range of customizations ranging from dial, indices, and materials for the hands available.

Thanks Teddy. A provocative proposition, actually. I like it. If it were easy enough to do I’d trade in my two year old Khaki Field Automatic in for it plus a couple extra hundred dollars.
