I more or less grew up playing this particular game. It was always one of my favourites. Great restoration! Cheers 🍺

Thanks for filming and taking us on the ride. Was bumpy there for a stretch, but the customer ended up with the job done right. Thanks to them for allowing you to share.

Dang it... you cleared my high score!!! 🤣 Just kidding.... Thank you for all that you do Ron. Keeping pinball history alive. Still trying to understand why the wires were cut in the first place. The last thing I would do when troubleshooting any electrical system is cutting wires. If a wire loom is too short or a wire is no good... definitely just replace all the problem wires in the loom.... with the correct colors. Painful, but worth the effort in the long run.

Another amazing restoration. I love you guys showing how to fix games. You make it so fun to watch and learn!

Sometimes simple games are the most fun! Having said that, I'm sure the beep-boop board was new and fancy at the time, but I think I like the chimes better; the beep-boop board just sounds like a grocery store checkout to me lol

It's cool that the robot and the woman are looking at each other by the slingshots. Very nice touch. Cleaning the playfield always totally changes the game. That is a gorgeous game. Great work!

Thanks for the video!!! You guys didn’t have to do that! Really though, as a guy who grew up in the arcades in the ‘80s, I appreciate seeing the old games getting the love and attention they deserve so they can live on!! Ronnie and Joe you guys rock man!!

Outstanding work as usual guys. Funny how those early sound boards sound quaint nowadays. At the time it was cutting edge but now it just takes you back to a simpler, but dare I say it, much more fun time in pinball. …back before le, pro, premium, art blades, mods and fancy instruction cards. Back then it was enough fun just to play the game. Thanks for saving another great Gottlieb banger.

Nice job!. I think the biggest thing I don't like about game is the beep and boop board. It needs real chimes (or bells).

Another great video Ron. It truly shows that you REALLY fix a machine you just don't "sort of" fix them. That repining mess really shows how it should be done. Cheers from Canada!

You can use a schottky diode for less voltage drop so ultimately the battery lasts longer. Looks like you might have used a 1N4007?

Around 8:00 minutes into the video you talk about pinning the new connector. As someone new to pinball repair I would have loved to see a little footage of you doing that instead of skipping to the finished product. This is a great channel and I really like how you walk through the wiring schematics.

Great work, as always. Those System 1 pinballs are really cool. CE3K, Countdown, Dragon, Charlie's Angels. And then along came Multi Sound System games.

You could probably blow the short out of the VFD by running a low voltage high current through the anode and grid leads with the decoder out, it may revive that display enough for it to function

One of my top 5 clean pinball tables along with Triple Action and Cross-Town ! We had a pinball pool table downtown in a small pizza place in the city that I grew up in 🙂✌️ ( In fact, it was right around the corner from a Pool Hall / Pinball Arcade that had the above-mentioned... Triple Action table ) I can still hear it counting down the bonus points from the center spinner as the extra games ring up 😉

Hi Joe big thabkyou for the amazing video here's the biggest tip I know about playing pinball you want to avoid the lower bumpers as much as possible they will always claim your ball it's all about trying to take away as much unpredictability as possible they take alot of control out of the game

CR2032 is the battery of choice for the Sega Dreamcast and many other devices I've had. It's an easy mnemonic... the first line of the song "What In The World" by the Dukes of Stratosphear goes, "2032, housewives shock in blue"

"VICTIMIZED" That's the perfect description for all that electrical tape! I am not so sure there isn't a bullet hole in there somewhere!
@uki352
@uki352 Год назад
Just a guess for the battery replacement... the 3V cell gets dropped by 0.6V through the diode, but the charging circuit on the MCU board already has a diode, stealing another 0.6V. If you just remove the resistor that is parallel to the original diode, the charging current is gone, and you can use a non-rechargeable coin cell. If you then use a 3.6V industrial 1/2AA size Lithium battery with axial leads like an LS 14250CNA, you can easily solder it in the original place. As a result, you do not need the additional diode, you can bend the leads matching the hole configuration and you have approx 7 years of backup (in test instruments I have them seen working for >10 years) and the do not tend to leak at all, if you buy the quality stuff like SAFT, LS or Panasonic. There is no issue with these batteries having 3.6V instead of 3V as the RAM circuit runs at 5V but keeps content unchanged down to 1.2V or so.

do you ever come across one that has the hardware working but no main board, no driver board, no power supply? i was wondering if i had the switches and bumpers etc that worked if it would be possible to make a microcomputer driven machine. I think it would be neat to put small leds on the logic board and watch the logic switch as you hit the game switches.

JOE CLASSIC, The Bookkeeping data is stored in the NV Ram? Why do the Futaba VFD Displays last longer compared to the Williams and Ballys VFD Displays?
@TomStorey96
@TomStorey96 Год назад
NV means non-volatile, which would mean it would keep it's contents without power. But in the era of this machine, non-volatile memory that could be programmed in-circuit was either not available or likely too expensive if it was, so battery backed SRAM was used more often than not. These days you could use some flash memory which is very easy to program in-circuit and extremely cheap.
@waynegram8907
@waynegram8907 Год назад
@@TomStorey96 SRAM needs a back up voltage. The back up voltage is made from the regulator stepping down the 12vdc voltage down to 4vdc so the regulator is always stepping down the voltage to create the back up voltage for the SRAM and to recharge the coin size backup battery. Once the arcade game or pinball game is turned off then the backup battery takes over. If you change the SRAM from 8k to 32k it will save more settings and booking slots is what I have been told.

Ron, "Have you ever watched gladiator movies?" Heh heh heh.... Seriously, though, you sound like you appreciate graphic art. Have you read Heavy Metal magazine or watched the animated film they released around 1981? PS -- Heavy Metal magazine itself has been canceled. The last issue shipped this April and the company that owned the magazine (the third or fourth owner?) just stopped operations. THey'd been in a financial mess for years. For some STUPID REASON, they decided to insult their customers online last year and behaved like brats. Well, they got what this dished out! The customers gave HM's owners the finger and spent their money elsewhere!
