Jared, this is my Mt. Everest. I’m a brand new bassist, just getting started and your videos are a huge inspiration. Love these riffs! Excited to keep at it and one day be able to play a song like this. Thanks! 🤘
It’s criminal that these videos don’t have more views and likes. Nobody else is breaking down these amazing bass riffs like this. Thanks so much. You’ve given me back so much joy in my practice and jam time.
Thanks for this, Jared. I found your channel a few days ago. Still very much a beginner, but at least now I can play most of this amazing piece. I'm dreading starting on the last piece but I will get it down. Great video, great help. Fantastic!
Hey man , I just want to thank you for the phenomenal amount of effort and love that you put into these videos. You truly are the king of bass lessons on RU-vid. All hail the riffs🤟🏻cheers from Quebec 🌱💨

Man you have the best lessons! Tanks to you I can now play snowblind! I'm gonna tackle this next! SLEEP Is one of my favorite bands! I got to see then in 2019, just amazing! 🤘 the encore was a 35min version of Dopesmoker! 🤘
I couldn't download the tab, it just open a new page but without an option to download it. Thanks for the video ax-master. Best bass teacher on youtube, without a question.
Good question! Getting the proper string thickness (gauge) depends on your bass tuning. If you keep your bass in E standard tuning, try (50-105) gauge. If you keep your bass in a lower tuning you will need thicker strings. For C-Standard tuning, I use (55-110 or 115). If tune down once in a while, keeping a lighter string gauge on your bass is fine - they might be a little floppy, but as a beginner it’s more important to play and have fun🤘
@@BeholdenToTheRiff Just took my bass in for a setup yesterday and selected ernie ball rounds 45-100. Gonna stay in standard tuning till I get my chops up to speed hehe.
the main riff was one of first things I learned to play... always wanted to jam this classic in its full glory! thanks a lot and keep up the good work! 🤘
Hey Jered! So, thers a song from Electric Wizard called 'The Outsider'. From the Let Us Prey album. I have a doubt in the tabs. Like, there isn't any tab for this song in the internet, and I guess I figured it out. 5~~ - 3 ~~ - 1. I guess. Its just three simple notes. I guess it is in the C - F A# - D# tuning. What do you think? Just want the opinion of a master of tabs like you.
Nice! I think the tuning is correct, but give this a shot: Note #1 (2nd fret on Bb/A# String), Note #2 (1st fret on F String), Note #3 (1st fret on C String)🤜🤛🤘
So cool man, thanks for all those SLEEP tutorials, I guess this might be the ''easiest'' to get started with. Can I ask what is that effect called, you have going to get that wobbly Sleep bass tone?
@@BeholdenToTheRiff arh cool, man. Good to know, I already have a phaser, and I thought Jered gotta have a better one than mine? so ok an envelope for Christmas it is:)
Here’s my signal chain on this one: Strymon “Compadre” compressor -> Whirlwind “Bass 10 EQ” -> Boss “LS-2” Line Selector (splits signal) -> Signal A (Champion Leccy “Canny Fettle Boost” JFET Distortion) -> Signal B (MXR “Phase 90”) -> Both signals Back into Boss “LS-2” -> Input of Darkglass Microtones M500 Amp -> Ampeg 8 x 10” Cab Sim 🤘
Great question! C-Standard is if you start with E-Standard and tune all the strings down 2 steps (CFBbEb). Drop C is if you start with E Standard, tune the E down 1 step to D (Drop D tuning) then tune all the strings down 1 step (CGEbF)🤘
Noob question, I normally play in standard tuning and use high tension strings (DR Low riders) and have my action low. When I go to C standard tuning, strings become super floppy, which leads me to believe it would need to be set up for that tuning. If I get a second bass but set up specifically for C standard tuning, then are the strings still going to be floppy?
yes, they will still be floppy. You need to get a set of heavier strings. Some people use a 110-50 set, some use the GHS 115-50, some people use a 5 string set and throw away the lowest string. All depends on preference.
yeah get some heavy gauge string depending on how much tension you like on you strings the D'Addario Pro Steel Heavy Gauge work well for me for C Standard.
In the meantime, you can raise your bridge saddles which will raise the action. This will increase the string tension and they won’t be so floppy and you can jam to some of the down tuned songs🤘
Hmmm…what if you changed your guitar tuner to flats instead of sharps 😉 Here’s the rub: The song is in the key of C minor which has the notes C-D-Eb-F-G-Ab-Bb so thems the notes we use🤘
Great question! Sort of, but not really :) Since the song is in the key of C minor, we play the notes in the C minor scale (C-D-Eb-F-G-Ab-Bb-C). Ab and G# are the same sounding note/pitch, but since Ab is in the key, we use that. Same with the D#. Hope that helps🤘
Maaan, I love your videos, but so much of the songs are in C or D Standard, my "regular" 4 string just can't drop that low without the strings hanging like a wizard's sleeve. I should probably just bite the bullet and buy a 5-String, or another 4 String with filed nut, huh...
For a while I used to raise the bridge saddles whenever down tuning was required. The higher action compensates for the floppy strings pretty well and it’s a great way to temporarily tune down before you get your next bass🤘
