The Bonklip bracelet is the most interesting part of those two watches IMHO. They were really cool back in the day and its nice to see them make a comeback.
The Bonklip bracelet on the second one is amazing - i love having it in summer - very adjustable. Tbh I prefer the original military watches - got a CWC G10 and a Marathon Dateless Navigator - some real history there.
I have the first watch you show in this video 🙂 The dial is an homage to the french watch Jaz AC-310 cal. FE 3611 (1969 - 1974). I like a lot of watches from the Merkur group ! They have many great designs and I love the vintage manual wind only movement they use. It is the Tongji chinese standard movement, inspired by the Swiss Enicar 1010 and Japanese Seikosha Seiko 850 (76xx) movements. It has been manufactured in various forms in numerous factories since 1972. The Merkur Military Tritium watch look great on a leather strap. I am definitely a fan of this one too 😍 It is very close to the "Marathon WW194003SS" tritium watch but the Merkur look even better to me.
Hi Gary! Wow that watch has a really unique and interesting case shape! I like it! 😊 the bracelet, while historically cool, would get replaced fast if I bought this watch.
A really really interesting watch, love the case design and great to see a modern bonklip bracelet, only ever seen vintage ones (and they are usually sub 18mm) thanks for showing.
G there was a Seiko Advan from the early 70s (e.g. ref 7019-7170) with that same case profile - v interesting and futuristic certainly in the 70s but even now.
I was already getting exited about a quirky original design. Thanks for pointing out that it is a homage once again which is enough for me to not even consider buying it.
Completely agree. The world timer isn’t for me, but I really like the field watch (including the funky bracelet). Only if it came with a NH Movement… Thanks!
Interesting watches, thanks for showing them. You are correct to be disappointed seeing that movement, I had one, it was fairly inaccurate to start with and became hopeless after three months of occasional use. I tried oiling in as the amplitude was very low, it improved but the best regulation I could get was about +40 dial up and -40 dial down, so the balance assembly was probably the cause.
Mono-block Case is really Spacey 😵💫 But the Tritium Tubes add a great deal of interest to that Dial . Forstner Bonclips are manufactured in China , soooo ? I don’t think you’ll find any Branding on this one though . Vintage Crazy Cool that’ll grow on you 😎 Strange that the small Arrow is pointing at the Handset ? Usually found below the 12/24 ( 360 ) on Mil Spec Watches . Cool Radioactive Warning on the Case-back . ….. 👍
Thanks for the review. I couldn't tell from the listing if the field watch had tritium tubes just on the hands, or also on the indices. It's an interesting watch for sure.
I bought my first Saint Martin military chronograph sn0120. I look at baltany and militado they all make the same watch. I figured san would make the better option. I love it. For $120 it's my favorite watch now. I'd love to see a face off between all 3
TBH it looks like a poor attempt at copying the CWC G10 British army issue watch, only thing is the real thing are pretty much all quartz. We used to wear them with a Bundt style strap but with a leather cover over the watch with a pop stud.
Based on the ali listing, this is not actual tritium tubes but rather normal lume in a tube. You state they're tritium, did you confirm? (by leaving it in the dark for 2 days or something and checking if it still has luminescence)
Might keep an eye on that tritium field should it ever go on deeper sale -- Price is a bit steep converted to Canadian, but I have been waiting/looking for a cheaper tritium field watch.
Was it a trick of the light or did the entire dial slide down on the world timer when you tilted it down at around 2:38? I like the case shape of the world timer, but interesting choice to make Africa the continent of choice, but I guess that does go with the lion on the caseback. Thanks.
Thats not very good for Tritium...i have a watch,, a Epoch quartz job that i purchased just to check out Tritium and see if it is any good, Watch is not particulary good overall quality not awful just kinda midling but the Tritium is a lot brighter than that Merkur.
The military watch is a very clear rip off of the Marathon GPM, a watch that I own. Given that it's about $300 quartz and $550 mechanical, I question whether it's worth cheaping out on a fake.
@@xpusostomos look a little deeper. The watch case is from the British G-10 spec. The dial layout and illumination is from the US Spec. The "design" that we speak about, when looked at closely, shows little to no "originality" from Marathon that gives them any right to the design of the GPM. My only criticism of Merkur is their failure to offer a hacking movement in a 2023 Field Watch.
Sorry, awful watches. Crap movement, crap amplitude, visible machining /scoring on the case and that awful second hand standing so high on its pinion off the dial that it seems to have had an argument with the other hands. It's is definite NO from me.
