Cause me personally, I've read all four novels and watched the anime, and I really enjoyed it. In fact, I think it's one of the greatest pieces of storytelling out there. The author of Vivy is also the same author as Re: Zero, so it's no surprise that it's a pretty good series. In my opinion, it's a masterpiece, and I'd give it a solid 9 out of 10. The only light novel I think is better is Mushoku Tensei, which is honestly a masterpiece of a story." @@Liquid_Phantom when you evaluate something you shouldn't do it based on other similar things, whether they are connected or different, the comparison primarily serves only for a numerical evaluation of your hypothetical scale. Personally I find the vote expressed in numbers useless because, although "useful" to have a yardstick for comparison with others, it's very reductive since it doesn't fully express the concept nor is it able to completely incorporate the thoughts I might have on it. The number, as it is objective, is therefore a yardstick that should be used in favor of a well-defined scale with clear parameters that apply to all the others. Premise aside, I honestly think Vivy to have rather interesting bases, nothing I've ever seen actually, but trivially it had a good initial premise that was very much based on the dilemma of Detroit Become Human, which was kind of interesting and also comes from Blade Runner and previous works. The episodes that follow are almost all a disappointment after another that try to frame complex themes such as the love of a human for a machine that simulates a sentient being, capable of "loving" and even being possessive towards others. From the second episode you might expect that it will continue to deal with some of these themes, but instead they decided to drop them and left without any answers except episode 6 which ends with a suicide and therefore half an answer was given to the "obsession with the machine" question mark. But do all these events in sequence have any logical thread or do they actually affect the story? Yes, but actually no. If the goal is to change the future and a series of events gave birth to that future, why does changing the ending of events still lead to the same future? Everything is explained with a very bland and senseless reason, since the machines have had at least a hundred years to rebel and they didn't do it before because... Reasons? The only real problem with Vivy is this total inconsistency in dealing with certain themes and connecting them to each other with a logical thread, but I don't deny that I had some moments in which I appreciated the episodes overall or some moments of these, like the aforementioned episode 6 or the ending of the 2nd, despite having no actual impact on the plot or the characters themselves. Visually speaking I don't have much to say, it's a shame that they alternate really detailed frames with rough frames, they don't seem to have such a solid artistic direction, but all in all it's excellent workmanship, especially in the first half of the series. I don't have much to add about the music tho, I particularly appreciated it, but nothing that stuck in my mind apart from the opening (for obvious reasons) or the blonde robot's song (I don't remember the name). In general I think it's rather mediocre, it's great for those who want to approach the genre with something rather simple and start exploring actual and older themes and for those who have seen/read/played few things related to the future, cyberpunk, cyborgs etc. But I'm talking only and exclusively about the anime since it should be treated for what it is: an overall incomplete product lacking in actual writing. I don't know of it was the whole purpose of the author tbh, but it's kinda meh if you ask me Edit: also, my first comment was kinda ironic btw. It's not that I dislike Vivy, I just think it's not that great as many people say. Yeah, the visuals overall are good, but that doesn't make the whole thing if the author itself forget or decides not to tell a thing. I also understand a couple of episodes can't comprehend that much, but at this point just focus on a couple of themes instead of throwing a bunch of random things that seems to be connected. Just that.
