"Once you get to that keyhole you want to shove your rod in there" that's exactly what I told my son. He isn't a welder, call it the burrs and the beads talk.
Really enjoy your thoroughness of explanation on what to do, what to look for and coaching to the end. Would enjoy seeing closer arc shots to see what you are seeing. Love your work.
ive watched so many of your vids i honestly think i could do it !!! im a welder for union pacific and we are getting laid off in a few days and im honestly thinking of trying it !!! you guys keep up the awesome work great vids !!!!!
Thanks so much for this video brother. I go for my weld 'assessment' tomorrow at Enbridge. Although they aren't going to bend or x-ray - I'm still glad to get this priceless lesson from you boys!
I welded pipe for 42 years .Today I noticed some of my hoods hanging on the wall in another building. They are doing fine right where they are.I used a number 9 welding lens for twenty of those years unless I was using a rod bigger than 5/32 which was rare.At 64 I can still see fine.Keep your head out of that smoke as much as possible. Those pancake hoods were invented by 798s so they didn't have to grind any. They are uncomfortable and useless.A fliptop hood is far better and safer. You young guys don't lay your hood down face first to collect metal flakes like a funnel lay it facing up when you lay it down.Throw your spent rods into a bucket or container instead of hap hazardly on the floor or ground.Be careful with argon once it gets in your lungs its hard to get out.Be careful in a confined space with oxygen, its odorless and if it saturates your clothing you will burst into flames.
Thanks Bob. I work at a marathon petroleum refinery and I actually didn't think of the oxygen hazard. Thanks for looking out for us new guys and God bless.
I want to find someone like this while will take me under their wing and teach me to weld, my mom used to call me bubba when she would teach me to cook, this guy calling his parter bubba gave me a warm feeling, such a wholesome and great life lesson video
Even though you had to use a handheld for the arc shots, they are actually Beautiful! I was pausing it just to look at individual frames of the orange and blue contrasting and dancing with each other. 😍
Dudes a G. He says by all means if you can and its more comfortable for you use 2 hands but im gonna use 1 hand because im more comfortable with 1 hand lol. Good welder, good teacher and I bet dudes slick AF with 2 hands.
I like the videos but just a Heads up there's an arc mark on the right side coupon at 3 o clock , 24:05 in the video ,I'm a welder not a cwi but you can make it all pretty and pass but one Arc Mark will bust you out !!! Should make a video on the what not to do's when welding thanks again keep up with the good work and videos , and work safe !!!
I also noticed no interpass cleaning. Not being critical in a bad way, but I been welding for over 35 years. Mostly x-ray work, ya gotta get that weld clean every pass. Why take a chance?
😂 nice ending, nice video...been watching alot of 6g videos haven't ran stick for a few years got a test coming up on monday 2" schedule 80. Hope I can pull it off lol
This videos make me remember when i worked as pipefitter and welder helper with that company CB&I in a refinery in cartagena - colombia. Keep burnin' bro! Greetings from colombia
Man I love these videos. You have helped me out of some serious jams in my welding classes. I wish that you would plug Outlaw Welding leathers. Their gear is top notch and home grown.
That older SA 200 is the cadillac of welding machines!Just listen to that Lincoln Continental engine. Many welders[myself included]believe it produces the best arc out there.I used to have one myself. The countries infrastructure was built with that and the red rod 6010.[not 5p plus].The only drawback is it[the SA200 ] produces DC current for the auxiliary power source. It will quickly burn up drill motors or space heaters and such.]Grinder motors are made to accept DC or AC .At least they used to be.The 5p plus has more flux to fight when you are going downhill. Therefore you have to hold a slightly longer arc.The old 5P[6010]red rod went downhill very easily.Red rod may be hard to find these days.Good video!
I commend you for teaching the pipeline process. You should do some videos on things people don’t see often. like welding split T for hot tap, how to transition for different pipe thicknesses, hot line sleeve test. There are a million things I know. One thing I never see or hear about anymore is an actual hot cut (football) where you cut live, pack drilling mud, and blow down. I have done several not sure if it is used anymore. It would be nice to see somebody demonstrating how it works and why it’s done. May not be able to demonstrate but maybe explain the process. Thanks for taking your time to teach the lost art.
Re: Looking to become a pipe welder A lot shop fab is mig welded, like meter skids, seperators parts of vessels. If you want to travel and weld you need to find a helper job somewhere you want to go and learn the downhill stick side or get into chemical and water plants where everything is tig welded or try em all out. Getting a helper job for a year or 2 is going to be more useful than most schooling plus you'll take home 1500$ a week for the right company. Save, learn, practice in your spare time. When your comfortable go find a test
Using 5/32" rod for procedure what works good for me 3/32"(2mm) land 3/32"(2mm)space . Body position is very important when downhanding. Coming down the side dip your stinger hand shoulder down (twist shoulders and bend at the hips ) . There is a saying too weld the weld not the pipe ( don't burn the top of the bevel off and just catch the bevel caping)
What auto lens are y’all using? I have 2 different ones and neither work properly in low light/overcast kinda days.. lookin for a good one for both my hoods
Bro, gran contenido y muy didáctico pero te pediría que lo hicieras también en habla hispana por favor!! Pues hablo algo de inglés pero hay palabras técnicas que no entiendo, gracias y sigue así,el contenido es de gran calidad
Hey I tried to google that guy Martin Wolfhawk from Central Louisiana to buy a welding machine... where can we contact him or get his contact info to get rebuilt welding machine?
OK, we know you can weld SCH 40 and thicker. The reality is that 50% of pipeline is relatively low pressure rated 0.100 - 0.150" wall jacketted pipe for buried gathering lines. Welding thin stuff can be less forgiving than thicker wall. I've been on projects that have 100 or more joints on thin wall buried pipe and maybe 30 connections on SCH 40 for above ground piping.
I don’t think the guy teaching is all that skilled. I’ve been on pipeline in Texas never seen him on the field don’t how he be an instructor so young but there was an arc mark (24:05) shot from him towards the end
No They are teaching all kinds of crap in schools these days to get your money. You need a high penetration rod like 6010 or 7010 or 8010 to dig the slag out of the wagon tracts on the sides of the bead.Filler and cap 7018 is ok.
@@yomommasgardener9648 Experienced welders prefer the 60 series over the 70xx or 80xx they are forced to use sometimes on pipelines. Why?It easier to keep the flux behind you running downhill.Ask an ole 798er The TRANS ALASKA PIPELINE was done with a german rod called cell 80. It was the precurser to modern high penetration downhill pipeline rods.8018 cover. The old hands would sneak in Lincoln 60 series[6010] when they could but a good inspector could smell the difference while it was burning.
@@julioariacero969 I haven't tried it yet but a lot of people on Instagram are liking CMR Fabrications. The guy who made the one I wear retired so been on the look out for a good new one.
#2 COMMENT-THIS IS A LOW-HYDROGEN ELECTRODE(ROD)DESIGNED TO WELD DOWN HILL(ONLY)ON PIPE.THEY ALSO MAKE E-9045,10045 AND IT'S USED ON OIL AND NATURAL GAS PIPELINES.LINCOLN ELECTRIC ALSO MAKES THIS IN WIRE FORM,FCAW-S.
When I was in school for pipe welding we did downhill 1/8 6010 5p all the way out on 6inch pipe. I had great roots and great caps. Went to take a pipe test for a company and they had a miller bobcat rental for the testers. Had my fit up same as usual (3/32 gap & land) and ran my root and pushed all the way through. Yet my root was terrible and had low spots. I don’t understand what I had done wrong. Had the settings right too.
andrewhdl 1 I went to Hill College in cleburne, TX. I didn’t go for pipe welding originally, but took the class and liked it. It’s basically a self taught class unless you go to their night class with the old pipeline instructor. If you really want to learn pipeline welding I suggest going to south coast welding academy (weldtube) or Kentucky welding institute.
thatguy23 your full of shit ive been around to long to belive that...feed that shit to green hands I never was a helper either and I’ve been welding longer then you and I know that shits not that simple from real experience
I always see these videos but they are done on coupons. Never on full stick pipe. Gaping is a lot more challenging on full sticks. I'd like to see that video.
Got certified on 5g downhill running 8010 for the rut, hot pass and cap. Trying to find places that need people so I can test. Anyone have some info? I know I’ll probably have to start as a helper and pay my dues and I’m perfectly fine with that 🤘🤘
I'm just learning to weld at 64 years old and I don't understand what the term "keyhole" means. I understand the puddle, but not sure about the keyhole. Can someone explain that to me please?
How can I download these and why are they erased from my list? I use these hjalamar Aguilo videos to help my welding students and now I have no access..... please help and tell me what I can do to restore these or download your playlist please!!!!! Thanks
HOW ABOUT DOING A DEMONSTRATION ON 6 INCH PIPE,SCH.80 WITH E-8045 STICK WELDING.HOT PASS,FILL AND 2 COVER PASSES(ACCORDING TO LINCOLN ELECTRIC,YOU CANNOT RUN ONE CAP PASS,YOU HAVE TO RUN 2 STRINGER PASSES).
