I just finished the audiobook and also loved it (Imogen Church is my favorite narrator). Your theory makes a lot of sense - I was also wrong. I thought the fact that Lila was a virologist who studies mosquito diseases was going to factor in. I like when things don’t end perfectly - Connor doesn’t get exposed like you’d want, but that’s life- you have to make decisions that give the best possible ending but likely isn’t the perfect ending

I agree, Imogen Church is such a wonderful narrator! Totally agree about ending with Connor. That's life indeed!

I love the way you do your spoiler reviews. You have talked me into this thriller. I would love to know your opinion about the books released for June. Other than the thriller, the offerings were bottom tier for sure. No new Riley Sager, or the Beatrize Williams book. I was so disappointed this month. Thanks for your review! Elizabeth

Thank you so much!💚 Yes I was disappointed too. I for sure thought the new Sager would be a pick! Or the new Lucy Foley. Even have them as “add ons” but that wasn’t an option either. I haven’t chosen any books but I’ll likely skip for the month

I read the book and loved it. I thought that Zana was the one manipulating Connor into doing everything that he did for her. I felt that Zana was making Connor look like an abusive person to get everyone else's sympathy. Oh! poor Zana. My thoughts were that she was writing this journal to protect herself in the end. BUT!! I was Totally wrong. 😮

Oh… My God! Thank You so so so much for this review! 30ish minutes ago finished reading and came to listen to your spoiler/theory part and it was so so so good 🌞 This must have been my 3rd recommendation by you that I devoured in couple of days time. SPOILER & my theory: I thought Zana was being abused and her diary was her twisting the reality as a coping mehanism. Also, when they were on their way to the island, I found it strange that ever since then all the contestants knew of Connor besides our Lyla, but couldn’t connect the dots. Thank you again! Can’t wait for the next one ❤

omg wow :) I am so happy to hear that you devoured this one, and a few others that I've recommended; that makes me so happy! spoilers- LOVE your theory about the diary being a coping mechanism! I didn't connect the dots either with the other contestants knowing Connor.

***spoilers*** I love your thoughts on the diary entries! I thought she was covering for her abusive boyfriend. I loved when I found out what was behind the lies in the diary. I thought the characters were well developed. I've just started reading Ruth Ware, this is my 3rd. I like her writing. I was frustrated by the ending and how Conor ended up the hero. He was an abusive murderer and I don't think the women would have been convicted of killing him. Interesting that only the women were left.

I’m so glad you liked this one! I agree on the well developed characters. I was so hooked with everything going on! I have The Turn of the Key on my shelf and I heard that’s arguably her best so I’m hoping to read it during spooky season 👻 I agree about the ending with Conor too

I guess I’m in the minority on this one. Ruth Ware is one of a very few, if maybe a couple, auto-buy authors for me but I’ve not liked her more recent novels so much. I love reality tv so couldn’t wait for this one but, ugh! It was disappointing for me, unfortunately. 😞 Happy to hear your review tho!!

I’m with you, Susie! I was so dissatisfied with this one! I LOVE Ruth’s books and was bummed with this ending. I wanted Conor’s true colors to be known by all in the end. I feel like with the 4 females alive at the end, and all of the deaths and bodies- certainly a jury could be convinced that this was a true survival/self defense scenario.

I enjoyed the book overall but I didn't really like any of the characters. I really couldn't stand Angel and her speaking french every other sentence. Santana could not stop having little emergencies. Nico was a bum. I pictured Bayer as Jason Statham. I liked Lyla until she wasn't fully on board with killing Conor. I can't stand in film or in books when people aren't willing to eliminate a threat.
