Imagine Luffy's mental exhaustion. From lost his crew in Sabaody, to jailbreak the "impenetrable" Impel Down and almost death poisoned to lost his brother (his primary mission). All of that happened in 10 days.

Holy hell, finally someone who shares similar thoughts as me about Akainu. He was doing his job and no I may not necessarily agree with how he does things but I understand why and he is pretty much justified in doing so. A lot of people bring up the Ohara thing when in reality, Akainu was proven right, because Robin was about to escape on one of the ships. It shows his intuition if anything. It’s extreme but he was thinking correctly in terms of achieving the goal

Dying with a Smile on their face is such a D thing Roger, Rouge, Saul, now Ace & Even Luffy in Louge town when he belived he was going to die at the execution Platform they all died with a smile as if acepting their deaths

I'm sad to see my boy Ace go, he had amazing ability's, a great character design and an interesting-ish backstory, Rest in Peace Ace.

mozy is very rational. i can apreciate a cool head in highly emotional situation like after ace's departure. very VERY impressed with the analysis after episode, you really are equipped with the best tools to enjoy one piece fully, cause you can see the many layers.

I remember how hard it was for me back then to get over Ace's death... It was the most heartbreaking thing I ever experienced as far as fiction is concerned. I cried for days. I was not only sad for Ace, but also for Luffy... Poor Luffy...

3:30 about Ace being punched through, I think it's because Ace intentionally used his real body to stop Akainus attack from hitting Luffy as using fire body will let the punch pass and hit luffy but as Akainus attack was strong it punched through his skin

Even though I don’t think he is a “moral” person, I definitely think Akainu needs a backstory to explain why he hates pirates so much. It’s as though something happened to him when he was young. We usually see the pirates depicted as morally right or neutral in One Piece. There have been bad ones; my instincts say that he probably experienced a very tough life growing up as a result of pirates. Hence, his stance on them as all evil. Think about it. Pirates rape and pillage villages, steal from and kill the innocent, were known to participate in slave trade as well, and are very selfish people. Doesn’t mean navy is good and pirates are bad. I think the point of this show is too show not all marines are good and not all pirates are bad. Cause there are good marines: Koby, Garp, Smoker, Tashigi, and I personally think Sengoku isn’t that bad of a guy. And there are horrible pirates: Crocodile, Kuro, Krieg, Arlong, Moria, etc. It’s complicated and I base my opinion more so on the individual character than the faction they belong too. For instance, the navy does some bad things but is necessary for civilian protection. I think a lot of people are looking for a moral equivalent of Jesus instead of realizing that doesn’t exist in this story or in reality. People fail to see that. So I get exactly were you are coming from Mozy. Beautiful reaction 👍

If I were to guess why that didn't happen to ace. Had he turned into fire the admiral would have hit luffy ace needed to be solid to tank the hit for luffy. Edit: He also mentioned his organs were burned so even if he was in fire mode the magma itself was hotter then fire.

Mozy, I agree with what you say regarding the military and even Akainu. Much of the military's actions are based on what they view as what is for the best interest of the world. Since we only view them through what we have seen that we end up hating them for what they have done overall. However, we do not know the background of the situation that has steered the world and its individuals to be as they are. Oda often shows this through the moral dilemma of individuals that come into the world. Whether it is a Vivi who decided attacking and possibly trying to kill Laboon was acceptable to ensure she fits into the Baroque Works as Ms Wednesday (before Luffy punched her and sent her flying) so that she can save Alabasta, to Robin who was willing to let Alabasta burn to the ground as Ms All Sunday so that she can get to the Ponyglyphs to ensure the dream of Ohara lives on, to Boa Hancock who was willing to feed Luffy to a hungry predator and watch him get eaten alive due to her hate of men that came from her past, there are moral dilemmas that steer people and society. This is exactly why the term "necessary evil" is created as one feels though the action itself may be considered evil, the overall greater good it is perceived to bring makes it worthwhile. Many wars may be viewed in this manner as both sides often feel that they have a justification to do what is normally considered one of the greatest sins, which is the mass killing of others. It is only when one sees both sides that we get some understanding of why each side is fighting any war. Unfortunately, we often don't have the luxury or the energy to see the situation from both sides since history is written by the victors. The situation with Vivi, Robin and Boa are examples of how points-of-view makes so much difference on even our decision to like or hate someone. Many of us were shocked/upset when Luffy punched Vivi when they were travelling in the desert in Alabasta. Yet most of us were very happy when we watched Luffy punch out Ms. Wednesday when she was trying to attack Laboon. Yet Vivi is Ms Wednesday so why the turnaround? Similar for Ms. All Sunday vs Robin, Franky who beat up Usopp and stole the Strawhat's money vs Franky who is now the Strawhat's valuable Shipright. Our points of view changes as we learn more about the situation. This is the same for Boa, for Nami (when she tricked Luffy and stole the Merry vs when she was revealed to be under oppression of the Fishmen Pirates), and even the Fishmen Pirates such as Hachi. Many of us even complained about how the Strawhats were too easygoing because they did not kill all the Fishmen Pirates like Arlong, Chuu, Kuroobi, and....Hachi during the Cocoyashi Village Arc. So, though it may not be acceptable, it becomes understandable why a faction like the Marines become who they are. It is the same reason Squard attacked Whitebeared out of anger and his overwhelming hate of Gol D Roger due to his loss of his crewmates in the past by Roger. Because we are closer to Roger and don't know anything about Squard's crewmates, we side with Roger but if we were to witness anyone killing Luffy's entire Strawhat crew, we would also understand and even support Luffy's actions towards revenge. Since we never witnessed how close Squard was with his past crew, we cannot figure out what would cause him to attack his own captain Whitebeard. Your overall understanding of such moral dilemmas is something I agree with. As this is just my point of view, I may be wrong about this. However, if there is one thing One Piece has shown is that first impressions may not always be correct and that human nature is much more complicated than we often understand. What drove the Marines and even the World Government to their present situation is not fully understood and there is most likely a reason people like Sengoku, Akainu, Aokiji and even Garp act in their manner. And as you say, this is different from the Capt Kuro, Spandam, or even Rob Lucci (who killed a group of hostages when he had the option to save them). How Oda is setting up Akainu's character as compared with Blackbeard's character is very interesting. Akainu, as terrible as his actions are seem to be doing it for a belief that his actions will benefit the world, while Blackbeard is obviously doing his actions for his own personal gain. How Oda will play this out will be interesting. Will we see something in the future regarding Akainu that made him who he is? Will we learn more about Marshal D Teach that motivates him to do what he does? As always, you really have a strong sense of trying to understand the deeper meaning of One Piece. Even if I don't always agree with the situation, I will always enjoy your reactions and opinions to this wonderful story. Sorry for the long comment.

To be honest we do not know if whitebeard could get one piece or not.. he wanted family, go on adventures, have fun…. He is not after treasures and all those… he is not that type of pirates….. if he had tried, he could’ve gotten his hands on one piece i blv Cause roger even offered to tell him how…. Now i am not sure if it was wb era or not…. It was stated that after rogers death A large pirate era was started…..

Marco is a phoenix so he regenerates. But yeah, this scene destroys me every time. BTW I agree about Akainu but Akainu was wrong about Whitebeard because Whitebeard's goal never was to become the King of the Pirates. If that was Whitebeard's goal, then Akainu would be correct.

Mozy Whitebeard had no intention of getting the one piece even though he knew it existed and where it was. Whitebeard was the man who sat in front of the throne but not on it. He was the man who guarded it from the undeserving

Even though I did not cry on Ace's death, even rewatching it rn. However, It doesn't change the fact that these episodes leave you devastated and shocked. Even if we knew Point-A to Point-B, we still didn't know how we would get there. It just hits you when the time comes. I praise One Piece's unpredictability for this one. I could feel the emotions these episodes produce, just like the first time I watched it. I'm very very sad, shocked, upset, and disappointed.
