Oda did say in an interview once that luffy is suppose to have an accent with bad japanese pronunciation. So it's actually on point for luffy to talk this way. He is latino after all.

Bro the trailer is way better than the teaser. The scenery looks beautiful and they showed a lot more than I thought. I was scared with Luffy’s powers and Arlong but there’s not bad at all. Trailer was great.

the actor for zoro is actually the most veteran out of the strawhats. mackenyu’s a super established actor in japan lol he’s super popular because he’s hot and good at acting. he’s also been in so many live action adaptations (chihayafuru, jojo’s bizarre adventure: diamond is unbreakable, rurouni kenshin, one piece, etc.) that this is basically just like second nature to him. he’s also already well-versed in martial arts because his dad, sonny chiba, is super, super famous in that field and he grew up doing both martial arts and sports with his younger brother gordon (hanzo in kill bill, plus he collaborated with tarantino in creating and choreographing the stunts and fight choreography in both volumes). among the cast, he’s the one that i never had any doubts on. loved him since he played arata in chihayafuru

I'm Brazilian and the accent of Luffy is pretty accurate for a Latino, Oda said that luffy would be brazilian if he was in our world, so it's all good to me

Nami actually does have glasses, canonically, and she uses them to chart maps, which, according to Oda, she does everyday after dinner. It just mostly happens off screen :P

You don't have to worry about Zoro's actor, Makenyu is I think the most popular/well known of the straw hat actors. He's been in quite a few anime live actions and has even been in major block buster movies like the pacific rim franchise! I am SO EXCITED for this to drop next month!

Little note: Luffy is brazilian in the manga (for the live action they respected the nationalities of the characters) if you look for information of each character you will find that in the characters info made by Oda he put which nationatily they are and that's dope.

Oda actually listed the nationalities of the one piece crew and luffy is Brazilian so the choice of actors seem to reflect this.

So Oda actually asked Luffy's actor to lean in to his accent because he has the accent a real life Luffy would actually have. Cool right?

The devil fruit abilities are really great; not too goofy, not too forced. The fishmen takes a while to sink in but they're actually pretty good. Yeah, the accent can throw you off every once in a while but that's accurate to the lore. I guess it's just that we're so used to the Japanese voices, that's why. But other than that, this series looks good to go. Overtime I'm sure they'll improve on things but right now, this looks promising. See y'all on August 31!

Bro, Oda has said that Luffy is intended to be the equivalent of Brazilian descent if he was in the real world, that's why the live-action casted a Hispanic actor and has the accent. The entire cast took inspiration from Oda's reimagining of the Strawhats' ethnicities which are Luffy (Brazilian/Hispanic), Nami (Swedish/White), Zoro (Japanese), Usopp (African/Black), Sanji (French/White). Hopefully we get Chopper (Canadian caribou/reindeer), Robin (Russian), Franky (American/cyborg), and Brook (Austrian).

The Japanese voice actors from the anime are going to be voicing the Live action Straw Hats in Japanese.

The actor who plays Luffy is Mexican, so he is going to have a bit of an accent with his voice, making certain words like “one” or “luffy” sound a bit different.

These people expect you to know everyone’s backstory and blood type upon first glance. Racism is a real issue, but the word is tossed around too much. Cornball, TikTok generation behavior. This looks WAY better than I thought it would! This is probably the first time I’m this excited for a live action series of a manga/anime!

Nami does wear reading glasses sometimes. All of the costumes the Straw Hats are wearing are taken from colored chapter covers or volume covers. They are canon. Shanks looks amazing! I really hope he says the "put your life on the line" line. For those of you who have never heard of Peter Gadiot who is playing Shanks, he was in Queen of the South. I highly recommend it. He is fantastic in it. And Buggy looks great too. The dude playing him was in Agents of S.H.I.E.LD. I don’t know who is playing Roger but he might as well be Johnny Depp. I think we see Bellemere. I think she is the female Marine in dark blue we see running at 26 seconds into the trailer. It looks like Arlong is at Buggy's big top and Baratie. I'm going to guess that he is tracking Nami and he catches up to them at Baratie. Nami saying “You’ll have the excuse them, they're idiots" is to Arlong and she is trying to spare their lives as she betrays them My only complaints are that I’m not sure if I'm a fan of Luffy naming the crew himself. He doesn’t think that far ahead. Unless they give him a line where he makes it clear he came up with it on the spot. The other thing that we are two trailers in and all Usopp has said “hit the deck”. It’s probably not on purpose but he’s a main character.

The biggest thing that gives me hope about this being an alright adaptation instead of a trash fire is that the people who made it seem to be doing it because they love One Piece. It doesn't feel like a souless cash grab to capitalized on its popularity. There are a ton of little details sprinkled through that make a long-time fan like me all giddy inside. It obviously won't be as good as the source material, but I think I am going to enjoy this.
