ONE-POCKET - EFREN REYES, 52, and JOSE PARICA, 57, matched up early in the 2007 Derby City Classic One-Pocket division. Both players were renowned as great players in all disciplines, with Reyes just winning the IPT World Open 8-Ball title in 2006. Parica, the 2003 winner in this One-Pocket discipline, was the runner-up in the 2003 & 2005 U.S. Open 9-Ball championships.
Jay Helfert and Danny DiLiberto were in the commentary booth.

This match is an excellent example of a debate for all time for every Filipino who knows billiards and all billiard aficionados. Who is better, Amang Parica or Bata Reyes? Most Filipino billiard hustlers I asked if it's a money talk(betting-wise) match a lot of them would go for Parica. But they said you cannot count out Reyes's talent and prowess and his knack for making tough shots.

TRIVIA: Amang Parica is a big name in Philippine billiard sports way back in the late 70's and early 80's professionally and commercially, while Efren during that time doing mostly hustling in billiard halls around Manila and Luzon and some pro tournament. Parica does have cameo in movies and doing San Miguel beer commercial ads with fellow famous sportsmans and actors like Flash Elorde etc. When Amang decided to migrate to the US thats when Efren filled the vacuum and become famous and the GOAT.

Both their name means young man or kid. Amang means young boy or kid, Bata means kid or young.

@@usgamechamp1091 because Amang was counting those wins when Efren was still up and coming and giving Efren the handicap. When Efren came to his own, even the great Amang became a second fiddle to Efren.

John "Rags" Fitzpatrick (1918-1960) Was not only the best all around player, but the best one pocket player! He gave Taylor 9-8, and took 9-8 in banks; both were even games. He would drive his new Cadillac from Washington D.C. every year in the 1950's to California, and stop in and beat Lingo along the way. Granted Lingo was drunk sometimes. Squirrel said he thought that Lingo was a better, but he didn't know that Rags made those trips.

One Pocket in the DCC is played with cue ball fouls only. If an object foul occurs, the opponent can decide whether to put it back where it was before or not.

I don't think so with DCC one pocket matches. I'm pretty sure it's cue ball fouls only. Mostly going off other DCC matches I've watched where similar has happened and the ball was moved back or waved off and the player kept shooting. I think also in general, if there's no ref at the table it's probably a cue ball foul only match.

Both Efren and Jose are really good players but back when they clashed early 1990s both on their prime's, Jose slams efren.

John Fitzpatrick (Rags) gave Taylor 9-8 in 1 pocket; took 9-8 in banks, both were the proper spots. Just about every year Rags would take a trip to California from DC, and stop in Oklahoma, and beat Lingo! Lingo had a drinking problem, which may have been in play. The last time i spoke to Squirrel, he said that he though that Lingo was a little better. That may be because the first time they met, Lingo gave him 9-7 and beat Squirrel; until he waited for Lingo to get drunk, a couple days latter. Rags had won Billiard & Snooker, tournaments, could run 100's and played 9 ball with all of them. He died 3/7/60 at 41. Considered best all around player. And w/o question the best one pocket player, by all the east coast/midwest pool community at the time of his death.
