The side quest that you can do at the end of Heavensward where you go on a self reflection journey to all the old spots you were at before and talk to characters, and it ends at that spot overlooking Ishgard...when you come back from the cutscene, Francel is standing there and he just says something in a chat bubble, no dialogue in the chat log, along the lines of "It never gets easier does it?' then he walks away. What got me the most was: I started as a monk in Ul’dah and through dialogue choices I ended up sending Nhagi off to the monk guild as well. That was the moment I started to tear up, seeing him and my old guild master, knowing how new everything was back then for myself…
@balover214
@balover214 Год назад
Absolutely! And I loved that the guild master remembers our journey and how we started! I ran an alt, who had not rolled pugilist/monk yet, and the dialogue was completely different. In fact, same was true for Momodi. She knew that I (my main) was the Savior of Eorzea, having traveled to the ends of the universe. My alt hasn't finished HW yet, so she called him just a seasoned adventurer. I just love this game's attention to details!

I was already unknowingly thinking about how my WoL felt ever since that day in the Vault, but it was the end of Shadowbringers and in very particular the end of Endwalker where I just... ... I just really wanted him to have happiness. The struggles he's been through, the pain he's endured... he deserves his shot at his own happy ending. The person/being who dropped the teleporter for him? It was me. More than anyone else, *I* wanted him to live. And the best part? The "who" of who did that is left purposely vague... with my own suspicions that it was done that way so someone like me could reach that conclusion by my own choice. When the shop keeper mentioned articles from "the Raven", or immediately grabbed my interest. We actually interact with a couple of writers from that chronicle. I'm pretty sure Jakkya (the sister) was in a previous Rising event. She's also from Gridania which is my home city state. Every year is a treat. I remember one year, we had a repeatable quest to pick up trash on the beach left by the Moonfire Faire. I thought it was a clever continuity, but the trash were bottles containing literal letters from people on the dev team speaking to us, not just Yoshida San. In that one, all the figures behind him were off you in different job gear, with Yoshida showcasing Samurai, I think. Another year, during the pandemic, the event revolved around a picture of Nanamo, Papashan, Pippin and the Thaumaturges, which lead to a story about her urging everyone to offer succor to their fellow man in dark times rather than being selfish and causing chaos. The focal characters were a poor artist and a friend of his who had become a penny pinching loan shark. Nanamo and company backed Yoshida, that year a Gunbreaker I keep screenshots of each Rising. He was a Paladin leading up to Endwalker with a huge moon behind him, and now a Reaper. I can't wait to see what story they spin next year when they deign to soak to us once more.

I love the Rising Event so much - while in-game it's a memorial to the Calamity, it serves the double-purpose of really being a celebration of the players. Players put their hopes and dreams into the game in the hopes that it would be fixed, and that made A Realm Reborn possible (and I feel like it has even deeper meaning with the implications of the penultimate Coils boss being what it is, and where it came from). It's diagetic and a-diagetic in nature, and it's brilliant for that.

Those who remember the end of 1.0 also just have this deep grief response to that particular haunting rendition of Answers. That last day, when the music was playing - so distant and quiet you could hear your footsteps crunching super loud - nothing mattered. You could do quests, but why? But why not, so maybe you did them. You got together with friends and did them. And then the time got close, and you and your friends just...watched the sky. Gathered. Emoted. And, out in the real world, grieved. But to me, that is my Warrior of Light sharing the joy of adventure with someone who's beginning their journey. I hovered over that particular question. My warrior of light opted for the fighting arts. Since the adventuring life is not easy so its better to know how to defend yourself and others. You see the consequences of a poorly trained adventurer group in the ARR dungeons with Edda's team. That struck my WoL hard. So she is more of the mind that adventurers need better training to ensure that tragedy doesn't happen as often. Crafters and gatherers for her were more to avoid relying on others. Learning to cook and make medicine for herself so that she can keep going on. Rather then risk being poisoned again. its nice to see other peoples thoughts on things. Lovely video and I loved this year's Rising. I didn't expect I'd enjoy it and wound up loving it.

4:05 --- What would my WoL want for the next generation? To have the tools to make a difference, I guess. I often hear people jokingly saying "I go where MSQ tells me to go" - but I think, given the partially pre-determined character of our WoL (we are the hero in the tale, so we act accordingly), we would've done these things regardless of having a choice or not. And especially since the world is a violent place, especially with all the misery in it, my WoL would want to make sure that future heros can meet and survive it. I like what Gandalf said in LotR (the books): that we can but prepare the soil for the future generation, but that we cannot garantie a rich harvest - something along those lines, anyway. So yeah, even if we save the world numerous times, there will always be conflict brewing, there will be always a "snake" in "paradis", there will always be a Teleji Adeledji, and a Lord Lolorito waiting on the sidelines. And I think, our WoL knows this: we know, that every peace if just ephemeral, that nothing lasts. That Emet-Selch's accusation of the nature of our existance was ultimately true. But we also know, that we would always pick up the fight again to do what we think is right, for the good of others, for those we've lost, for those we might yet save. Thats a heavy burden, of course, but it is a rewarding path none the less. After all, thats what Endwalker was all about. To quote the Vigil from GW2: we fight for those who cannot fight themselves. And we know, from Edda's story, from what we experianced during that body-swap solo duty, that adventuring and surviving in this world isnt as easy as we might think. Also, funfact: that scene of the adventurer entering Ul'dah... its precisely the one you get to see when you enter the city for the first time (if its your starting zone): same NPCs in the background, the chocobos "kweeeh'ing" - everything :D

Idk what it is about this games story that makes me think on so many deep levels, just about human nature, and morality and forgiveness.. its a remarkable achievement for any game, let alone an mmo, where a good story is more of a bonus than any kind of foundation. Yet here I am just thinking back on all these quests and conversations I've had with characters just making thru their way thru the world and they all had some purpose or meaning behind them, let alone the Scions who have become like my video game family lol.. if you told me that a Final Fantasy game, which before 14 I had no experience whatsoever with, would become one of my favorite media experiences ever, I would have never believed you. When I did this event, I suggested the guy should join the Pugilists' Guild after agonizing over almost every choice leading up to it. I think that quest has a really great way of making players think about their character and the world of FF14. For 7.0, I think they could still get the adventure feel of FF5 by "discovering" the new world mentioned in some side quests (including BLU quests). FF3 and FF5 have probably the most adventurous feeling of FF games, where your characters' motivation to start is "go see the world and save the crystals." They don't have to rejoin worlds. What I want is for 6.5 and a lead-in to 7.0 is to start that grand adventure I promised G'raha I'd take him on.

We can't bring back the past like Emet wanted, but perhaps there can still be a meaningful future for them. After all, we still have a Moon-sized spaceship and a whole universe full of lifeless worlds just waiting for a bunch of wandering creation magic specialists to come along and get things going again. So glad to see someone else picked the crafter/gatherer route. And I liked that we went to the Alchemist Guild -- if you've played through that storyline, you'll know that it's a pretty good one. Regarding the next expansion, I haven't been able to shake the idea that maybe they're going to be going for something like the Legion (WoW) expansion. I could see void incursions popping up everywhere that we have to put down. The one thing that makes me doubt this is that it might feel too similar to what happened during the final days, so they might not want to do that again.

This one was amazing. I started my game as a pugilist in Ul'dah... And as a monk I could welcome a new adventurer like Wymond did before me and send him to Momodi and then to Master Hamon...

Honestly The Awakening event gets me misty-eyed every year. This year's was a really good one, a symbolic Passing Of The Torch to the new generation of Adventurers (i.e. players). I love how perfectly they meld the in-game and out-of-game messaging in these quests. By that I mean the scene where Yoshi-P gives us his yearly message can be interpreted as this mystical entity thanking our character for all they've done and encouraging them to look towards future adventures, but at the same time it's quite clearly a message directly from Yoshi-P to the player thanking them for coming along for the ride (and what a ride it's been!) and hoping they'll stay on for more great stories and adventures. It really does show how meaningful it is for a dev to let the playerbase know how much they're appreciated. It shows that they don't take the playerbase for granted. And it's not just some kind of yearly placation that they just slap together and give us every summer because we've seen the exact same sentimentality from Yoshi-P during interviews and big events. He loves this game and it's playerbase, and THAT is why this game is so god damn good: the devs actually care. Well, at least one of the reasons the game is so god damn good. :P

The Rising quest was super nostalgic for me, starting the game in 2014 in Ul'dah to become a MNK, and getting to play the role of Wymond greeting new adventurers felt so amazing. Because I have multiple characters, I tried both options and ended up choosing for him to become a fighter on my main, because he seemed to be a natural and I got to see Hamon with a new disciple. One of my alts has been skipping through the story, but one of the random curscenes I decided to watch was when Doman kids were asking about adventuring and I answered them. It made me wish the new beginning after 6.0 was more about moments like this and The Rising, while setting up the Golbez threat more in the background.

one of the things i really love about the writing of FFXIV is that they are so completely unafraid to be 'old fashioned'. A lot of the storylines are sentimental almost to the point of cliche.... but fuck it, feels good to just have some uncomplicated feels on occasion. They're not trying to impress people intellectually, they're just creating an experience for the player to unashamedly enjoy

Yeah, this quest event hit me in feels too. Not going to lie it's been rough few years for me personally. I am hitting the age where I am loosing elder family members at a fast clip. Five so far, one more death soon pending. I have felt extremely drained emotionally. FF14 has been my escape, though it's story has taxed me but gave me outlet where I felt I could effect some change in emotional state. To do something I enjoyed. This Rising event was lovely, and touching and well timed. I am hoping for brighter adventures both in game and out at this point.

The Rising is fantastic and *different* every single year. My favorite is still the very first one, where we were transported to another place. And it was a room full of NPCs representing members of the development team, including flavor text of two arguing over Blue Mage or Red Mage. ^-^ Also, this year's was a nice foundation of "look to those who walked before, to lead those who walked after." I'm not sure I'd expect Etheirys to be completely changed or anything. As Emet said, even as it currently is, we've barely seen anything of our own world. The full Endwalker map still has the entire center of the continent covered in clouds (what is that huge Godzilla/Titan giant East of Garlemald's capital?!?!). We've not seen Dalmasca and the viera's home jungles. That's not even mentioning Emet's tease of Merycidia and the New World. There's SO MUCH for them to explore on Etheirys as it currently stands without even setting foot on the other reflections. There's easily 2, perhaps 3, expansions set just on our own world and 10 additional reflections. There's easily another decade of expansions set up for exploration without even trying to think outside the box of what's already been set up.

Something I had thought about a lot during shadowbringers was "What about when I'm really dead?" because I was roleplaying that expansion as the last hurrah that I wasn't going to survive. The Warrior of Light is such an unstoppable force that the only one who could even come close is someone who ate the aether of Zodiark, and half of Hydaelyn, not to mention countless Garlean souls. Meanwhile I'm just a guy with a book, a Fairy, and a lot of passion. Who would step up and meet the challenge of meteion if the Warrior of Light had died in the first? What happens when he eventually does die, and the next threat shows up again? It's why I chose to recommend a life of war and bloodshed and heroism. There's never any shortage of threat and despair, so there should be no shortage of brave souls ready to meet the challenge. Personally, I think that the big change in 7.0 is going to relate to the Kairos. It'll somehow find a way to linger into the current day, and it'll be used to wipe everyone's memories of who the Warrior of Light. That way we get a clean slate for whatever is coming next. I'm kind of hoping for a time skip of some kind so we can get to see grown-up Alphinaud and Alisaie rival our strength

The moment where the Minstrel/YoshiP says something like "I know your journey is hard...but your adventures will never end...you will always have a place here" I feel like he's not trying to talk to the WoL, but to the player behind it. He talks about loneliness, but the WoL is literally surrounded by npc friends all the time (and even your ingame friends you made along the way). But if we get the player, he is of course, often alone in their room while they play the game. Also, if he were talking about the WoL's journey, the sentence would not make that much sense. It would be like someone saying "I know X is super hard, but find solace knowing X WILL NEVER END". Would you be comforted by someone saying that your hard struggle is absolute and unending? I feel like he was trying to connect to the player, to their real life struggles, reassuring that they will always have their adventures in FF14 to find the strenght and momentary solace to go out in the world and push one step forward day by day. And it's not even the first time I feel the game is trying to hijack your connection to the WoL and trying to reach to you. Endwalker constantly asks you about the meaning of your life. Even Zenos, at the end, reiterates on that. Basically, in the whole story, the game kinda "checks" on you multiple times. It starts with Heavensward, when Aymeric asks you what will you do after all the battles are over, and I could not but feel like, ingame, it was a stupid question, since my WoL simply stops existing everytime the fights are over. He even asks you if he can make " a PERSONAL question", "Not as a Scion, but I mean, what do you want for yourself", and none of it makes sense to ask to a videogame character: there's nothing for the game character beyond being a Scion, and he can't answer a personal question technically because I will inevitably answer for him. But then the multiple choices show up, and none of them are relevant to the game. They're all giving away personal fears or wishes that are more common to find among MMO players, than you would expect from a god-slaying badass. In Endwalker, they do this CONSTANTLY. Hydaelyn asks you about what you think of the world, Zenos about why are you even playing the game. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that YoshiP is really trying to say something with this game. And I think that's the underlying reason why some players get really invested in this world and story, and others can't fucking stand it. There's almost no inbetween

It's so interesting to see so many reasons for the same 2 choices. At this point, my Elezen WoL is about to start the MSQ 5.5 with a bunch of other side content not yet finished(Bozja still resists the 4th Legion, the Sorrow of Werlyt has passed, Eden has become Utopia, etc), but with all she's seen and experienced, she realizes that for every soldier she has fought alongside, every adventurer she watched die, every monster she put down, she realizes a veritable legion was behind them all. For every soldier, a craftsman to make his armor, THEN ANOTHER for the weapons; for every adventurer, the experiences of at least 2 others to survive dungeons that we call "easy;" the monsters? Another 10 wherever they came from, let alone their masters or creators. So how could she NOT tell the new guy to go find ways to make his own food, create his own alchemical oddities, tighten his own leather and cloth, score his own armor and weapons and tools? Then I asked myself, How could I not force this boy to follow in our footsteps? It was this moment where my Irlisya Baharosa of Zalera told herself, "The rains have ceased, and we have been graced with another beautiful day. I think it's time to enjoy what it brings. And maybe, this child should, too."

My own personal take on the crafter/fighter choice was that if this kid wants to see the world, well, the world is a dangerous place and my WoL knows all too well she can't always be there to save the day. Sometimes she's just a moment too late. Sometimes despite her best efforts, people die. So if this kid can protect himself, protect those things he cares about, and maybe end up doing a little good in the world? Then she can send him off with an encouraging word and a smile. Of course, the genesis for my WoL is that a wandering adventurer saved her life and her sight after a monster nearly gouged out her eyes, which inspired her to become an adventurer, so that colors her world view quite heavily.

I read that "courage" part as maybe Yoshi-P talking about himself and the dev team. That they were planning something REALLY left field, taking a risk with the game. I do agree with your take that even a major pivot would be additive rather than reconstructing the world.

But she always hopes for a day where she can put away her staff and focus on her true passion.

"So long as there are men, there will be wars." - Albert Einstein I had to pick the combat arts for the new adventurer. I loved the Rising 2022 event. Wanting peace and prosperity for all is a lofty and worthwhile goal. Yet, it is one that will ever be unobtainable. So long as there are two humans with differing views, there will be conflict. The question is, how far will that conflict go? We are seeing that very concept play out all over the world in present day. I'd love to leave a world free of war, free of conflict, full of peace, prosperity to my children and children's children but that just won't happen.

I would not have considered giving the gatherer/crafter option a serious thought until I heard yours. Personally my WoL is grateful that they don't just have to stand at the sidelines watching others suffer, but can do something about it. But what would they want for the next generation? For the future? That raises different questions. Do we live to fight? Or do we fight to live? Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I'm going to go out on a limb here guessing at the drastic change: Void gates opening up all over, and a rejoining of the Thirteenth unlike what we've seen before: Just open gates between worlds. Permanently opened gates. Perhaps Golbez, after absorbing the Thirteenth's fragment of Zodiark, seeks to rejoin. But he may not know about Zodiark's downfall.

Normally the story for the current expansion is concluded in the x.3 patch, however YoshiP already said 6.0 was the end of the story and that everything after is building for the next expansion and new story. It's not starting in the x.4 patch and beyond, it's already started (I'd submit that they started in the bonus quest from doing all of the role quests in shadowbringers too).

It's interesting how our thought process varied on that choice. My WoL was more of the thought that "I'm not going to be around forever, and there will always need to be people willing to stand up and protect those in need." It's hard of course to usher a young man into conflict, but in a world like FF14 it feels like the right thing to do when you have someone willing to stand up and defend those around them.

I don't know, the story seemed to be hinting at US, The WOL and the Scions embarking on a mission to restore the 13th to a living thriving world, and not having to avert or experience another calamity. I had ben joking with FC mates that 7.0 was going to be called "Lightbringers" (I know it won't be, as I said, it was a joke) since we'll be pulling a world OUT of darkness instead of a flood of light.

I guess I thought you would have done this event last year? This event made me appreciate the game more last year. And I did not choose to put my new sprout as a crafter. All of these super evil enemies are gone. The Warrior of Light AND the Scions have lessened that burden for the next generation of adventurers in Eorzia. The ones who come after will always have to fight something. Not all of the quests we have done have been against super-evil enemies. There will still be FATES where an adventurer will still need to help a local keep their supply boxes safe, kill species invading an area, etc. I don't think Hydaelyn would want others to not fight - she wanted us to know suffering and not just to kill Meteion. She literally says there will always be sorrow - and it's true. People may think of sorrow of being deep, but the Queen's funeral was yesterday and I'm sure there was sorrow there.

this quest is a perfect example why i just dont get the anger and rage of some people over aspects of the game that could be improved on (like how others are whining that island sanc needs more content, and now with the issue on job balancing). don't get me wrong i understand that there are flaws and certain improvements can be made (i use my mch for savage so i feel the balancing issue for example). you can see that the devs are really trying their best and is really passionate about the game AND the player base (something that is sadly becoming uncommon in the gaming industry lately) so im hoping that the rage and anger can be turned into constructive criticisism.
