I'm not saying renting is better than owning, having a #shipshe that requires a lot of repairs it's better someone else pays the repair bill. A big thanks to Wade Thompson truck repair shop in Forest City, Iowa for the timely amd fast repair.

Camper business still keeping you busy?

That's a Dexter axle issue with those cheap plastic caps they use. Lippert uses Valcrum aluminum caps OEM. Usually those big 15/16k axles are oil bath. Didn't even know they did grease pack on those. 8k and above come standard with oil bath.

Shipshe orders their axles greese packed. The cap bust because shipshe over tightens them

@@camperhauleru812 That figures, but those plastic caps are still garbage. They are the first thing to get rid of on an oil bath setup. Grease you've got a good chance to catch it before it destroys anything.

I understand your reasoning for a rental trailer. Just remember, the financial burden of repairs you referenced, is paid for for through the $500 @ month rental. I easily grant you that they are not making any money at that rental price but this months rent should cover this repair and they still own a trailer in the end.

Yes too many people had tore up, left, or abandoned trailers all over the country. So sadly they raised the rent

I am certainly no expert and I'm only guessing.... But I believe when you get up to the much longer 53' trailers that take even more harsh Jack knife turning to park in truck stops versus a shorter 40' trailer... We are better suited to have the much larger 6" round 20K to 25K axles that are a much stronger overall system for those extreme turns..... Which I'm betting happens more often on the driver's side because you do less blind side backing in. The smaller round 10K axles have smaller parts and I believe fail at extreme turning plus heavy weights on the deck. I talked to shipshe before I purchased my trailer and they openly express those 10K axles notoriously break down. I think you see less with hot shotters because they typically have shorter 40' trailers although it happens many times with them too. I believe oil and grease bearings both go straight down the road great but it's those extreme turns with heavy weight on the deck (2 big trucks) that apply too much force at extreme turning. But when you get up to those 20K plus axles they only use oil I believe.... Which I lean more towards versus grease. I watch semi trucks with much heavier loads do the extreme turning and can't believe the tires don't pop off. Again just my opinion I'm certainly no expert Thanks for sharing

I've had many Bigtex and PJ trailers over the years. All 10k spring ride trailer and never the issues like shipshe and the 10k Torsion axle they use. Bennett went to 15k spring ride and no more brake or bearing issues.

I had many issues with these plastic caps then I bought a set of aluminum caps of eBay and since then I never had an issue with my 10k grease axles, thanks for sharing.
