The handrails are probably mahogany, as all the ones in my parents Victorian townhouse are. I think you can bleach them to lighten them. It's a really dense hardwood and well worth saving if you can. Keep up the good work, the house is amazing and you guys are allowed downtime!

Wow the red tiles look so expensive and unique! I would go for them I believe but you are probably right that the white would brighten up the fireplace a bit. You should really try to move the bathroom door. It would help so much by not running straight into the toilet. Really love seeing the progress you two make!

They are lovely aren't they! I think we will be taking down the wallpaper in the 'shower room' this weekend and I can't wait to find out what we can do with the door!

Reno fatigue is a real thing, feeling the same here (4 months in). Hanging the toilet rol holder after 2 months is kind of a win at this point haha

I don't know if it's too late for this (as I'm just watching your videos now), but you could keep some of the old windows to use in cold frames if you're going to have a veggie garden some day, and so honour their presence in the house.

If you intend having a real fire, ensure your hearth is the same size as where your last slate tiles ended. I have a smokeless fuel fire and sometimes the fire spits. It's the BEST thing I put in my little house and I LOVE it. 💞. I am thrilled re your wooden framed windows.... I am a mature lady and have seen PVC windows come and go 2-3 times where wooden frames last soooo long especially if you maintain them. AND your funky tiles behind the cooker that you chose to leave....are right on point now hahaha😂, you have set a trend. 😇🤗💖💞🌞.

Love the windows! Timber is a great option. What I have read though is you do need to do quite a bit of upkeep on them and re-treat them every five years or so or they won't last very long. Like I know a building where they installed them but did no maintanence and 20 years later they are facing a massive bill because they have all rotted and need total replacement. But a great option so long as you accept you have to put some work in on them.

Hey Laura, you guys doing a great job on the reno, well done. We did ours and lots of tips from our architect / interior designer... just to share.. if we wanted to put a shelf make sure it is in line with the bottom line of your cupboard, same when you wanted to put up your art work, the top edge of your artwork should be in line with your door frame.. we did what they said and it is looks so much better.. have fun with your reno x

I like the white tile for fire place because it is bright and modern but I have to say, that red is what just belongs there. Its perfect if your keeping the floral and other side color. I personally think it would be unexpected and there fore stand out more. It would be timeless. I am weird though I feel like it is saying pick me.

I vote for the burgundy tile for the fireplace... because it will give a pop up statement and complement the fireplaces.... Oh dear it's 5.00 am so i've bingedwatched all your renovation house vidéos!! Ouf!! Subscribed!!

I've been enjoying your reno series so far. I'm a certified building inspector in the US and I have not heard you mention anything about the code or building regulations and permits. I am sure things are different there in the UK, but surely there are some regulations. In the fireplace tile, I looked it up in the International Residential Code (used in the US but possibly beyond) that the hearth extension should be not less than 16 inches (406 mm) in front of and not less than 8 inches (203 mm) beyond each side of the fireplace opening. That could explain why someone expanded the slate tile outside the original burgundy tile footprint, besides it being broken. Combustibles, like the wood flooring, need to be kept some distance from the fireplace. Something I thought would help explain the changes there. Keep up the good work. It's very interesting.

You are doing so well and it's looking beautiful. Every decision you make and every job you do - no matter how small - is one that you won't need to do again. It's all progress, even if it doesn't always feel like it!

I'm so in love with your house! It's so warm and cozy :) Good decision to remove the tiles around the fireplace and I think either of the tiles you selected would look nice but the cream is my preference.

It may be you’re going for Renovation rather than Restoration. However, regarding Restoration, have you considered sanding the pine door fillers and then waxing/polishing the doors as opposed to painting them? Also, upon occasion one can find similar red tiles at a vintage/antique architectural place. What about leaving the sanded down version of the home exterior for a schmear look?

To save money on your living room curtain situation, and as they are so lovely, you and sew similar fabric / colour panels into the middle sections or two sections even to lengthen them, since you are handy with a machine.

Unsure if the restroom has been completed but I would suggest to put the toilet next to the shower. It looks awkward having the toilet as soon as you enter. My suggestion is for it to have (as you enter on the right hand side) the vanity, toilet, and then the shower

Please don't take offence but could you make some renovation videos where you don't talk basically for the whole video and you just keep it brief and about the particular that you are doing not go off on a tangent about random stuff. Thanks.

I appreciate your advice and I do understand but I think you are looking for an educational renovation video which is not what my channel is about. There’s lots of other good channels which focus just on renovation and may suit you better. For example ‘The Restoration Couple’ are great for learning a skill and renovating houses. Hope that helps 😊
@belight4686
@belight4686 4 года назад
I was shocked when you just obliterated those tiles you should have found salvaged ones to match in. Try and keep the original features don't rip them out. Check out the restoration couple on RU-vid. You don't buy a Victorian to tear it apart and demolish it. Save the original features and mend and make do. Otherwise move to a new build and do as you please!!!
