I enjoyed prototype 2, but I always thought the angle that Mercer in the first game was actually the virus was cool. Still hate the way Mercer was handled in this game
Eh Mercer was leaning towards this direction from the start of his game. I don't see a problem with giving a cardboard character something interesting to do.

Howling Wolf the ending of the first game has him blown to smithereens and left as a pile of goo that comes back by eating a bird I don't know the rules on being consumed but there was pieces of him left lying around in P2 ending
Unfortunately I think you are right, this series would get lost in the shuffle in today’s market. Also they can’t make it a service so publishers would have no interest
I mean they could in a way... add some co-op or multi-player, more skins and effects, unlockable character customization, maybe vehicles and stuff... expansions to the original map and all. They could do a Division out of this, only...you know, good. Still, a complete single player game is a complete single player game.
holy hell, this looks a lot better than the first game! also, i think the character designer went to Rob Liefeld school of design because damn! that's a lot of pouches and bullet belts on Heller
He's such a fun outlier game protag. In 1 you play a handsome white dude with amnesia but in two you play a man with a batshit crazy vengeance stiffy. Look up "Heller using a computer" if you want to laugh your ass off. It's like if the punisher had zero self control, finesse or class.
I wish they would make a 3rd entry but knowing activision i think it would be be forced coop crap with tons of microtransactions these days, so maybe its best to let it rest..Loved both these games and just ordered them in a doublepack for ps4 for 39 euros.

2 wasn't a bad game but i still prefer prototype and Mercer as mc, it's either who you can tolerate more a brooding type or edgy Terry Crews . If my memories right the 1st world was bigger than 2 therefore traveling is have more purpose ?( since you moves pretty fast) I just not sure changing your previous mc to main villian is a good idea.
It can work if it's a temporary conflict or if the MC was mind controlled, possessed, or similar (see diablo essentially). When the same character who you played and saved the city with decides to destroy it, it seems really off :/
This game is like the definition of power fantasy. You can do anything, you slash, slam, eat dudes, shoot guns, jump, blow up tanks and helicopters, its fucking stupid and fun
James Heller reminds me so much of Kratos from God of War. Both of them had a family once, gained incredible powers from a notoriously unstoppable being, they both wage a war on the superior beings, won, and they both killed their makers. Not to mention, I think they’re both bald; unless Heller has a buz-cut. XD
I'm pretty sure that they just reskined the Spiderman game that released like a year before. The one where Venom made everyone a symbiote like Wolverine... Someone please back me up on this lol
I remember getting this and playing a bit of it. A lot of changes from the first but was having fun regardless. Then I took like a BIG year break. Sucks that, on PC, it seems unplayable for me.
Late to this video but yeah I remember not hating this when I rented it back in the day. The story was kinda ass but the gameplay had potential. The dream is a Venom game with these mechanics. 🫠
Weird how Prototype 2 started showing up again in my Home feed. Maybe if it had been paid this much attention back when it came out, the franchise would still be alive... (Not a jab at Matt, just bitter in general)
Having come back to play both of these games, id like to give some quick opinion. The first one had a good story and probably more overpowering fun times, but it conveyed the story bad and threw unfair difficulty at times to defeat you. Alex Mercer is also just a really cool character, especially after learning the twist. In the second one, its just angry man and his kids, but the presented it so well i didn't give a fuck because the cut scenes were more engaging gameplay while streamlined, does feel more fluent, and i honestly dont notice the lack of powers. The only thing i really miss is my claws spiking from the ground, and ramming people with the shield(but you can ram with basically anything you pick up) The second has better missions overall, both with making pretty much all of them feel important and have fun stuff to do in them. Instead of the first one where you did okay side stuff to get your fun powers. Now it's just having fun while getting the fun. I might also be bias cuz i grew up with this game and everytime i get the hype background theme, i always get flashbacks of nostalgia. I also have a big appreciation for how the second made you feel like you were actually evolving, with the added hunting making you feel like a predator, and your power and weapon upgrades only come from living things. I just have overall more fun in the second. (But i need more parkour moves)
It'd be fun to see you go through the whole game but I get that it would get repetitive and you might not like it don't you get a chance let through the whole thing it's a fun experience
You know what? Consuming other organisms makes Heller/Mercer heavier, they're supposedly about as heavy as everything they have ever consumed. Question: How the fuck can Heller sit on the bench without breaking it, and how in the world he doesn't fall through the floor?
