I've been inundated with questions over how to take advantage of Tesla's new feature in the 2023 Holiday Update, which allows owners to use a single USB to store all of their favourite light shows.
Well... There's very little in the way of instructions out there so I contacted Tesla to confirm the procedure and thought i'd pop it into a video for you all.
If you find it useful, please like and subscribe to the channel for more Tesla Light Shows, News & Reviews.

This is a great update from Tesla for persons wanting to play with these shows :) No need anymore to have huge pile of sticks in glovebox (only a small pile😊)

Another step forward for light shows

If you want to use the same USB drive for your light shows and your TeslaCam footage you can create a separate partition for each and it will work. In Windows you can use the built in Disk Management tool to do this (If you're not sure how to use this there are plenty of instructions online). The light shows aren't very big files. I had 3 custom shows and it was only 15MB for all 6 files. I went ahead and made a 1GB partition so I would have plenty of room for the future, but you can certainly make it less. I made the rest of the USB drive a partition for my TeslaCam. When creating the partitions I made the light show partition as FAT32 format and made the TeslaCam partition as exFAT and everything worked perfectly. Hope this helps!

Does the partition name play the role? Becouse in fat32 it's all in capital letters, I tried both but it's not recognised anyway
@crysis_averted
@crysis_averted 9 месяцев назад
@@lubostinka9468I don't know for sure, but to my knowledge there is nothing about the partition name that Tesla looks at. I just named one partition "LightShows" and the other "TeslaCam" for easy ID. Also, are you saying it is only the FAT32 partition it does not recognize, but it does see the exFAT partition? If so you could try making them both exFAT and see what happens.

Thank you Simon! This is fantastic. I recently finished watching your entire archive of LightShow videos on your RU-vid channel during my workouts. Thank you for providing that entertainment! While I understand that this next request may be a Patreon-only option due to the work that would be required, I have a feature request now that this all-in-one-USB is an option (and maybe it's already in the works?) Right now, the process to add the selected light shows is to individually download them all, unzip to a folder, rename the files, then put on the USB. If there were to be a way to select from a big list all the light shows you want, and then hit a "download" button to automatically get one file downloaded with all the selected light shows in the appropriate format, then to only have to unzip ONE file onto the USB with no name changes, that would be a total game changer. Thank you for everything you do!

Thanks for this - much better than all the old-way how-to videos that still show up. Brand new M3 with the latest s/w update, and I’ve tried all possible combinations of old and new ways of getting custom Light Shows to appear on the menu. Is there a definitive up-to-date troubleshooting guide you can refer me to?
@eried
@eried 11 часов назад
I think there is a bug on the m3 highland, because I only manage to see shows when I reset the car (hold both wheels down) and wait 30-40 secs and then connect the USB drive. U will see the shows, but they will disappear after a while and stop working again

Thanks, but how do you synchronize all the cars if you have a big light show with many cars? And can you specify a different sequence depending on the location of the individual cars? Thanks
@TeslaLightShows
@TeslaLightShows 9 дней назад
Using the car's timer and yes, but the positioning is configured upfront for each individual car
@sallerc
@sallerc 9 дней назад
@@TeslaLightShows Thanks, read in another comment that you can specify a specific time that the light show will start. And since the clock is synchronized from GPS or the internet that will work fine I guess. Regarding the positioning, can you tell me a little more. Do you mean each car need to have their own (unique) sequence file or can one sequence file contain everything and be copied to all cars? Then the car knows it's position from GPS and therefor knows which part in the sequence file it should play? Thanks

Just after your original post (8 months ago) I setup a single USB stick with 23 light shows on it. It worked great for several months. Recently however it's stopped working and it shows the original Tesla created shows (which work great) and in place of the shows on my USB, it says "Custom USB LightShows" which is grayed out and unavailable. Do you know if Tesla changed the procedure again?
@thespencers1
@thespencers1 Месяц назад
I just got my LightShows working again. I rebooted the car (but not sure that was necessary) and it didn't seem to work. Without thinking about it, I pulled the car door closed, and suddenly there they were. Prior to me shutting the car door, it just showed the 3 Tesla created shows, and the grayed out "Custom USB Light Shows" listing.

Can these be put on the same drive as you store your Sentry Mode Videos?
@gmasorey

No, it has to be in different usb with fat 32 format in which you only have the folder LightShow written like that.
@Marki555
@Marki555 10 месяцев назад
@@gmasorey At least with 2023.38.6, you can use the same USB stick (not sure how it is formatted), but for car to recognize the Light show, the Sentry folder must be renamed/deleted. So I guess it is better to have a separate USB for the light shows and just swap them when needed.

We created a custom light show and its working on most of the cars we tested. I have a 2023 model y that I just picked up a couple of days ago and am getting a 'Incorrect number of channels' error. Scoured the web and found no answers. Please help!! we are trying to get 80 cars to synch up on this. most of the logistics are planned out but this error on my car is driving me crazy right now. Please help! I can share the fseq file and LightShow folder also if needed. an older version still works on my car and the new complete version is working on most other cars.

Hi Dipen, ok so try formatting the stick to Ex-FAT32, the name of the memory stick doesn't matter but change it to something generic for this exercise like "USB". Make sure you only have one folder, named "Light show"... Although .wav is compatible, the cars sometimes have a problem with it so maybe try changing the format to .mp3

Key thing to check is that your files arent incorrectly named like mine were! "E:\LightShow\Stranger Things.wav.wav" If the MP3 or WAV files have that in their name you can probably delete it. Your computer should warn you if its the file type and therefore the only one you are deleting.

I tried both Mac and Windows machines for formatting and no luck. I have to be missing/ something, but have run out of ideas. The process described in the video is simple enough.
