One Villainous Scene - Ego's Fatal Flaw | Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 

Ego is the closest thing we will get to an accurate portrayal of the Greek god Chronos

Thing about Peter's reaction in this scene -- a lot of people have said that Peter's screw-up in _Infinity War_ (bashing Thanos when they almost had him) was a reversal of his character growth, but this scene is proof it wasn't. It's part of a pattern where the behaviour that helps Peter to win in one movie is his downfall in the next. In _Guardians_ Peter beats Ronan by being a playful goofball who easily bonds with strangers who seem to like him (the Guardians); in _Guardians 2_ he nearly falls into Ego's trap by being a playful goofball who easily bonds with a stranger who seems to like him (Ego). In _Guardians 2_ he beats Ego by whacking him with everything he's got the moment he learns Ego killed a woman he loved; in _Infinity War..._

I kinda saw that mention of the tumor as a test. He didn't need to tell Peter about that and he would have won. I think he did it because he wanted to see if he actually turned Peter to him completely. That was the point that he needed to choose between a partner and a battery.

Nice one. Ego had barely registered on my radar out of all the villain options but now i want to revisit the movie. Really enjoying the One Villainous Scene series and the different youtubers takes on their pick.

The biggest example of Ego’s selfishness is that one line. “It broke my heart to have to put that tumor in her brain”. The fact that Meredith suffered because of it doesn’t factor into Ego’s recollection of her death AT ALL. He only thinks about how HE was hurt by her death.

"I must expand myself across the entire universe to make everything mine! Wtf, that is so comic-booky craziness!" Is it, though? Looking at all imperialism and colonization throughout History, it seems pretty realistic to me. It's not even a subtle analogy. Ego is the epitome of all that.

It's worth mentioning that one of the reasons he works so well as a bad guy is the thematic tie-in. Ego, big E, is the physical antagonist, while ego, little e, is the existential. The guardians are learning to get over their own issues long enough to make a family with each other. That's what makes it so elegant. The text and the subtext.

One must always be loyal to family, and family must always be loyal to you. Family is bound by blood and love life without these is just awful.
