The Park that started Best Sydney Parks revisited 2022. It was 2018 when we made our first Video of Dunumbral Park, and there has been quite a few improvements added, making it still one of our favorites.
Park improvements include a strip of fitness equipment spaced apart along Spencer Road side approaching the shopping centre, new playground equipment replaces the old boat equipment at the smaller park and a new basketball half court next to where the old excercise equipment is. Still no Toilets at the park. Food, parking and toilets are available at Cecil Hills shopping centre.
The park with its lakes attract a lot of wildlife, in particular birds, we an hour a day for a week, filmed the bird life around the park. Its the beginning of winter and we didn't expect to see much, but we were wrong, probably the way the park was set up and the type of plants make it a fantastic habitat for all species. Each species seem to favour a particular area of the park.
We manage to video water birds, marshland, parrots, garden birds even domesticated. The best time to go is early mornings, that's when you see them most active. The birds we managed to film are Australian White Ibis, Australian Pelican, Willie Wagtail, Australian Wood Duck, Common Myna, Australian pied cormorant, Eurasian Coot, Purple Swamphen, Splendid Fairy-wren, Black Swan, Straw-necked ibis, Pidgeons, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Welcome Swallow, Masked Lapwing, short-billed corella, Magpie-lark, Australian Magpie, Grey Butcherbird, rainbow lorikeet and galahs.
There are probably many others species that we could not see, such as the Bell Bird where the sweet chime is present and the call of crows.
Since 2018 we have also upgraded our equipment, with constant video and camera improvements the iphone is still our best and main piece of equipment, we have added a Gopro for this and future videos.
