Folks, I had the privilege of Speaking with Ani Hofner Umebuani (the enigmatic songwriter and singer) of One World a few days ago. He lives in the city of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Unfortunately, he suffered from stroke recently which has limited his mobility and speech. Please let's remember him in our thoughts and prayers. These guys touched our lives with their music and we should be thankful to them for the joy and energy they gave us.

Great song. One can adopt a child but no one can adopt father or mother.

Why the hell did I think One Word made only three albums? Mama and Papa I knew about, even loved it, just didn't know it was an album title. Their first Reggae work? Nah! Even Just a Little Smile is Reggaeish. Radio stations used it to sign off programmes but it was actually a melancholic love song. One World were brilliant! Now I get it, it's really a Reggae album but with the unmistakable One World flavour. Great memories, great post!!! Immense thanks for sharing.

I finally found the title song, 'Mama And Papa'. Thanks so much Chubb Dandy's. Possibly nearly 40 years, the last time I heard this song. Thanks for uploading.

This album came at a time One World was trying to find their identity. They had experimented with rugged afro rock, afro funk and pop but never quite cut it commercially despite developing a huge cult followership that never propelled them into stardom. Individually talented musicians in their own rights but was overtaken by the rapid influx of disco and reggae. Mama and Papa album was a wayward attempt at reggae which, in my opinion, caused the demise and gradual disintegration of the band. I like their early releases such their debut album, "Victory" & "Movement." They had a powerful stage presence and their fans adored them. They're now memories of yesterday.

Sweet Breeze became the answer to a dwindling One World, running from their form in Victory album to a very elitist funk fusion in two failed albums...this album Mama and papa gave them back some respect, but after this album they went and went and went, until Sweet Breeze bounced on with Across The Desert Album....these were all graduates from high institutions....they made a bold break from the Porthacourt and Aba Eastern music heartbeat to Enugu...they became instant hits with songs written by that Whizkid from Zikston and UNN, Vin Ikeotuonye and bellied out by Dallas Anyanwu of IMT Enugu...these guys made excellent use of sadness to keep people happy, the dance halls rocking and life moving on sweetly...ELITISM KILLED ONE WORLD (nicknamed Otu Uwa in the East)...just like in music all time, by the time they seem to have picked up their groove again, the market had moved...more so they were playing what others had started playing both local and international...they were also nicknamed COAT OF MANY COLORS derogatorily...I guess they struggled with little patronage from their diehard fans until everybody to thy tent O Israel....great musicians of a time no doubt...

What was quite a gibberish, the one world rocked and ruled the 1970s music scenes.
@unctiontvemmy-nwachukwu4668
@@edikataekwue9944 I think you've a problem with use of English language. Read again with the aid of someone with power of comprehension and you'll better understand the write up. Avoid making a fool of your limited knowledge and ability to comprehend. That Sweet Breeze became an answer to One World means One World had ruled the scene before Sweet Breeze. Next time pick someone your size or ask questions before putting out yourself for slaughter.

Mr Emmy, I most certainly have no difficulties with the English language, what l had difficulties with was the poor and lowbrow sentence structure in which your narrative was written. Now that l have gone back and reread it as you suggested, l found we somehow may share common grounds on the subject.
@unctiontvemmy-nwachukwu4668
@@edikataekwue9944 you certainly don't understand writing forms. Did you read Things Fall Apart. For effective Communication an author must know its audiences. The language form here is very descriptive and direct. Yes, call it lowbrow, but did I effectively communicate or YOU MUST FIND FAULT OR COULD IT BE YOU ARE JEALOUS. From failing to fault the information you have moved to sentence structure. You're a definitely a novice in writing forms. The difficult you had and still have is my high level skill in use of English language as you are not used to. You're used to what comes as high sounding but intended to impress not to inform. Go and find a James Hardley Chase novel and read. If you have ability to understand, learn and stop coming in public to engage who is more knowledgeable than you. THE FORM I USED WAS INTENDED TO KEEP READERS ATTENTION. Nothing is wrong with my writing form, what is wrong is in your mindsetting. I would expect you do something on the topic too, to compare with what I did without proof reading, editing or typo checking. If I proof read, edit and check typo, maybe I will make a whiteshirt ignoramus like you to go and hug NEPA transformer.

Mr Emmy, You're talking this too hard, l didn't mean to rile you up this much, calm down. It was just a constrictive criticism, no hard feelings.

But the shift to Reggae is something to be examined
