We are looking to live in Barcelona next June.. and travel to other locations. Madrid is beautiful but being by the ocean is a plus. We have been traveling to Europe for 3 straight years but now is to live there for 1 month.

We were in Barcelona with our family in the summer! Great vibes, beautiful place, really good energy. The only thing that bothered me very much: non-stop, at every step, the smell of urine and marijuana.

Barcelona it’s love and hate,I love it but it’s impossible to enjoy walking for example in gótico born or the shopping area it’s full of tourists, in Christmas you can barely walk. other areas are ok too but not as beautiful like Gotico or sagrada etc ,smells like pee and it’s getting worse and worse , prices of housing it’s subnormal I think most expats they romanticize so bad Barcelona in their privileged they have better salaries than Spaniards and they can have even better quality of life , rent super easy for them ist just easy to pay more than 1500 in rent when locals earn that Or even less monthly, also you pay taxes here because you are on a DN visa but Bcn it’s full of Dutch ,Germans , Nordic countries living here paying taxes in their country but not in Spain because of course here they can live like kings that’s why you see them every days having aesthetic breakfasts or cafes and dinner out every night , making rich the restaurants made for them believing it’s a local restaurant when it’s not! making things super expensive bc they can afford things and. because they are part of Eu union so basically they are tourist living the life here while being privileged of have a European passport 😢 the sad part it’s when Latinos come here they call them immigrants but they are also immigrants they are not paying taxes here they are just tourist. Also yes they bring money to Spain, the reality in fact it’s most companies aesthetics cafes restaurants are own by international people and they still paying bad salaries to Spaniards and Latinos or the ones that decide to work here in BCN that’s the reality I’m not judging you but would be nice if some immigrants from other countries of the first world try to understand the reality of living in BCN and maybe stop using Airbnb or holidays rentals instead use. hotels or hostels because this is the major issue here housing and you know it very well as you experienced too 😅

The reality you describe it's the reality you can find for the most part by the entire Spanish coast and on the islands. I totally agree with your point of conscious traveling (avoiding Air bnbs, holiday rentals and abusive rent prices at all costs). Most nomads and tourists don't care about the local problems, that's why it is so important to bring awareness of conscious and mindful thinking when traveling and living abroad.

Having a growing expat community is not a good thing, is a sign that the real local city is dying.

I wouldn‘t move to Barcelona honestly. It is the most dangerous City after Marseille in whole Europe. Robberies & assaults in broad daylight happen on daily basis. I was lucky enough to move out fast.

I’m really sorry you feel that way! I honestly never feel unsafe in Barcelona but I do think where you live plays a massive role!

Second most dangerous in Europe? 25th, if you go by Numebo crime stats. It is also the 117th most dangerous in the world if you go by Numebo after most US cities, and main cities in the UK, Canada and Australia. Not too sure which big cities you could live in then🤣

@@cameron599 Australia? Really? I think you are out of your mind! You could never walk alone in Barcelona at night. I hardly believe you could have the same issues going on in Melbourne or Sydney, as are extremely safe places with a really low crime rate. If you feel that Barcelona is so safe go and walk out with your Rolex or your iPhone around and see if you return in one piece with all your valuables. I have been to Australia many times and this is not the case. I have never had an encounter or a tricky situation.

15:30 we used to not have to worry about these things at all, Barcelona and Spain in general has always extremely safe, one of the safest places on earth. 95%+ of these things are done by Moroccans. You can thank PSOE for that, same philosophy as Biden, let the illegals come in and do whatever they want so we can secure votes forever.
